the fuse is often in the plus lead, but can indeed also be in the minus. When the load or charge current exceeds the 500A of this model you can choose for the 1000A or even 2000A version
Ok thanks. Should all currents by summed, or should the loads be summed, and the chargers subtracted, as the current flow from the chargers would be in the opposite direction (through the shunt) than the loads. Ie net positive vs net negative charging.
Will this device have any effect on my smart charger? Also, I leave my boat for six month periods, if you disconnect positive lead to battery, does that result in zero amp draw? Don’t want dead battery when I return.
the smartshunt is not effecting the charger. When leaving the boat the main switch prevents the discharge, so also the smartshunt is off. At return you need to recharge the battery and with this the correct state of charge will appear
No, the SmartShunt IP65 is a battery monitor with shunt in 1 unit. The SmartShunt IP65 does not work with the BMV, it's a replacement of the BMV, only then without a display. Your phone with VictronConnect acts as the display.
@@Lordlindef ??? I am afraid you dont understand ....When you have a BMV with defective shunt, you can order very simply a new PCB for the shunt of course, but using a SmartShunt for this is replacing the complete BMV for something else.
@@Lordlindef I am sorry but this is nonsense....When you exchange a product with a product with a display with a product without a display you cannot complain there is no option for a display! , then you should have replaced the initial product with one WITH a display. The Smartshunt is a product that many users like a lot BECAUSE it doesnt have a display so can be nicely connected to a Cerbo or other display.
Good question but I doubt it. From what little I've learned on RUclips tonight, he BMV 712 is talking canbus to the actual batteries. This smart shunt is measuring consumption as it flows through.
My system is 24V but actually has two 12V batteries wired in series. Can I still use the Smart Shunt, as long as I make sure I install it in between the 'second' battery and the load/system? I will put positive on the 'second' battery (closest to load/system) as well.
We have 2 48v (100x4 Lifpo4s x2) battery banks. Both lead to our MultiPLus-II 48/3000... via a common busbar. Can we use the auxiliary wire to monitor the second battery bank?

My battery box is basically a fully enclosed steel box (i.e. below the middle step to the motor home). Will the blue tooth signal be able to escape the steel box, with the only ports being those for the heavy wires, and reach my phone?
Potentially not do you require an IP rated model? If not I would recommend a p.m. fee pantry monitor as it has a very small display and the Bluetooth chip is that so you can route the cable outside. Or there may be a chance that you could use a Bluetooth dongle on this.

Hi, I just tidied up the wiring in my engine bay and shortened the red AUX Smartshunt wire to about 200mm - now the starter battery voltage reads about 0.33v although the battery is fully charged. Is the length of the red wire critical for accurate readings, or could it be the new ferrule I fitted not making proper contact? Thanks.

You don't mention if the multiplus II inverter/charger can use the shunt info to better charge the battery??? Or shut down the inverter if battery is low.
Because they shouldn’t need to they offer free online training courses to teach you how to do this but the most plus male or may not sing is if you simply have a multiply to a battery it’s more likely to be able to keep track but when it’s a bigger more complex system, it’s a mathematical nightmare to use the devices individual data to work out the information that the shunt could provide

If you have two separate battery banks, and each has a Victron shunt. I was wondering why you couldn’t have two separate charge parameters. In other words, if one battery bank says 55.2, according to the manufacturer, and the other says 56.5 the shunt is dictating to each battery bank what the charge would be?

One is getting three or four times more input when the suns out and using three or four times more when the sun goes down? One battery bank is BattleBorn Batteries and one is SOK. Both are 16S 12.8 voltage. Both wired to 48 V. I’ve tried different settings, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. 🧐
@@johannesboonstra6917 I’ve been told by others that you have to use the same charge settings on both shunts. I split the difference between 56.5 (battleborn bank) on one shunt and 55.2 (SOK bank) on the other. so I put them both at 56 V. They’re all on one network. 🖖

My house battery is under my Class B van. I'm concerned the bluetooth may not be in range and will be shielded if I'm trying to read the display on my phone while inside the van. Is it possible to still connect an external display via a wire connection such as one of your BMV devices?

Great video that i looked at before purchasing my Smartshunt. But there are a detail disturbing me and that is putting the positive ringlug (from the smartshunt) with the wrong hole size for the bolt between the battery post and the negative ringlug, this is degrading the contact to the negative battery post.

What happens if i do not connect the starter (main) Battery of the Load Side of the Shunt, instead of this i connect to The battery side, cause I got two batterys in parallel (main battery engine bay and second battery on the trunk) Both work for the car, winch, lights, etc. Both are charged in parallel by the alternator. I just only want to know information or status when my car is off, and the freezers and camping lights or inverter are running (engine off, car stoped). I got incorrect capacity measurements? Or it can work normally. Thank for the help in advance

Hiya Victron, I've read a lot of claims that the bluetooth range is often less than 1m, is this a known fault or a known limitation of the product? Also, does the unit itself save the history? Or does the charge history reset every time the phone is disconnected. The product looks amazing aside from these concerns :D
This is kind of true and untrue. The range is extremely limited if you want to go in to the app and view the all important live data, basically it won’t connect but if you just want to see the limited data on the tiny opening page of the app then the range is great and sometimes I can exceed 10mtrs. The same goes for other Victron devices and is completely useless for their smart chargers that don’t give you any information unless you go into the app. The only up side of the lack of information for the smart chargers is that they really don’t need to be looked at unless you just want to see stuff. Honest opinion? Get the BMV712 with the Bluetooth option because you get much better range on the wired screen than you do with the Bluetooth.
@@richardb8492 Is the BMV712 compatible with this smart shunt? I have an industrial robot with lead acid batteries but I plan to swap those batteries very soon with lithium ion, which means my old school power meter won't work. I'm hoping to find a simple and cost-effective replacement!
@@richardb8492 well the shunt is effective a block of metal , this isn't very good for conducting bt signals. so when the connection box is " in between" the shunt itself and a metal enclosure /chassis, yes then the range is limited. when the box is "open " and there are not metal covers ect preventing the signal, the range is quite high

@@richardb8492 Uhoh. We just ordered one of these (the Smart Shunt) from Amazon yesterday. It was only $130 and thankfully Amazon is good with returns so if the shunt has terrible range as described here, we'll just return it.
So I installed the smart shunt. it counts down from 100. 99%,98%....but if I have no load it doesn't start to count upward. Just resets back to 100% when batteries are fully charged. Everyone else says theirs will count up also. What am I doing wrong?

I have tried updating the firmware of a victron Smartsolar charge controller and it never worked ever since then. It keeps the yellow error led light. All attempts to fix this was never resolved. Kindly help. How do I correct it ?

Wish you'd allow both Cerbo-GX & Global link 520 on one system, so that a hidden GPS signal can be used to track vehicle or boat. Outside the remit of most victron user's or criminals monitoring technology advances'

The VE direct socket cable makes no sense. Why does it require the purchase of extra an cable. It should have a male end to connect direct to the Cerbo.
Half these comments aren’t bad but they show a lack of understanding things like vaulted rating all current rating. Please just check the data sheet and a lot of questions are asked about how exactly you connect different things. You don’t understand it enough. It’s not necessarily bad thing but you should probably educate yourself with Victron training courses.
that has to be the ugliest battery terminal Ive ever seen. not to mention the install for an official video. those screws are cheap as and only 2 in the cerbo ? I think this needs an update victron

If your system has a cerbo, you can insert an SD card for several months of data storage offline.
So if you don't have a cerbo it soesn't save any data when you log into the app to see what happened earlier that day?
Guess I need to get me a cerbo.

no, as there is no current there the length would not have an effect , a bad connection would..

? The two batteries are parallel? then there is a common minus right? Thats the location you have the shunt installed.

the shunt comes between the minus of the battery and the chassis, grounding on the chassis as well

If you have two isolated battery banks, you need two shunts to measure and can make settings per bank then.

When there ia ONLY AC loads and charging by the multi, then there is no shunt needed. in other cases there is as you would "misread " the current

Only the battery minus comes on the battery side of the shunt , All other minus leads are on the systems side

Hello, you should have a shunt or DC Meter for the positive wire. You can sell so much more Shunts when it's ready as a DC Meter and show on the GX.

Its also possible to add a GPS usb in the Cerbo , then the location is also known.

@@다양한일들 dictator? You means isn't used? the AC1 is the priority input , AC2 is secondary. So if you have the generator on AC1 this will be overruling the AC2 were the grid is on.

The VE direct socket cable makes no sense. Why does it require the purchase of extra an cable. It should have a male end to connect direct to the Cerbo.
Half these comments aren’t bad but they show a lack of understanding things like vaulted rating all current rating. Please just check the data sheet and a lot of questions are asked about how exactly you connect different things. You don’t understand it enough. It’s not necessarily bad thing but you should probably educate yourself with Victron training courses.

Not really good practice to use cable lugs with M10 holes to connect to an M6 bolt.
that has to be the ugliest battery terminal Ive ever seen. not to mention the install for an official video. those screws are cheap as and only 2 in the cerbo ? I think this needs an update victron
