  • Ever wonder "why won't my car start after filling with gas"? In this video I show you how to replace the EVAP purge valve on a 2007-2013 GM truck or SUV.
    The vehicle was showing symptoms of an extended crank, especially after filling up with gas, and a check engine light with P0442.
    Sorry about the poor quality of video on this one. I didn't realize the camera was aimed too high. I tried to save it though with my awesome video editing skills!
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    PARTS USED IN THIS VIDEO: (Don't buy the ones at Oreilly's. I went through about 4 of them before I paid the little bit extra for this AC Delco one.)

    Very hard to tell what you were doing. It’s unfortunate every single car has different looking wires under the hood so it’s difficult to know what is what. I have a P0446 code on my 2004 Chevy Malibu with check engine light on. My bro in-law friend said it’s probably the catalyst converter because of that code… is that even possible ? I haven’t seen anyone else mention that .

    • @PetesGarageandperformance
      @PetesGarageandperformance  2 года назад +4

      Sorry about the poor camera work. There is still good info in the video so that is why I chose to still publish it. The p0446 code is caused by a problem in the evap vent valve circuit. The vent valve is near the charcoal canister near the fuel tank at the back of the car. There could be a problem with the wiring or the vent valve itself.

    (2007 Chevy Equinox) - My issue was a substantial reduction in miles per gallon (much more City miles than Hwy miles - was getting about 170 miles per tank instead of about 260 miles per tank). CARR Chevrolet Service Department (Beaverton, OR) could not find the problem (but charged me over $400 just for looking and not finding anything). Years later, my car throws an EVAP code (P0455) and Honest 1 Auto Care (Hillsboro, OR) found that my Canister Purge Valve needed to be replaced (it was stuck OPEN). Problem solved.

I tried seeing if you had an IG account so I could message you about the issue, but couldn’t find one and can’t message anywhere on here

    • @PetesGarageandperformance
      @PetesGarageandperformance  2 года назад

      It’s possible. But usually if it’s a purge valve, it’ll only be a long crank after filling up with gas because it pushes the vapors into the intake manifold while you’re filling the tank. I would check for codes even though the light isn’t on and also check for fuel pressure while cranking.

      It’s possible that the vent side of your evap system is clogged and when you fill up with gas it could fill up the charcoal canister with gas. Or it was topped off too much with fuel when filling it up, which then filled the canister with liquid fuel.
      I would remove the charcoal canister and see if it’s full of fuel. Also you need to make sure the vent valve is working properly.
