Sorry, but I think she overrated herself. Self_important and always "me, me, me ".
Wonder if , after her Oscar , she could have carried on and become a " great actress".
If it were not for Fred Astaire, her dancing would never have improved. She never gave credit to Mr Astaire, but said she did everything he did but backwards......really !

apollonia I would say you have your point; Ginger would not have come as far as she did without the exposure and reviews of her work with Fred Astaire, but neither would Fred have gone anywhere in the film world without her. I would
add that they both brought their best and both brought out the best in each other. Fred went on to be in many more musicals, yet he never was able to carry a picture on his name alone. He was always paired with others. Ginger, on the other hand, did carry many films with her name above the title and received an Academy Award for one such film. She was an actress and a comedian. She was not afraid to belt out a song even though she received criticism at time. She danced well and gave credit to Astaire, many times, when asked about their work together. She often spoke of him with great regard and respect. As to the ‘me’ aspect you refer to: I have worked with the older adult community for many years. In this interview, it appears Ginger has had health issues and her responses are choppy, as though she is searching for words. This is not unusual for people in their 80’s. Also, when a woman or man has no children and no spouse, their world encompasses their work and their personal adventures. How can it not? Every accomplishment in their lives has been something they personally achieved. When it comes to Ginger, she falls into that category, but again you sell her short. She was a woman who worked from the age of 14 until way into her 70’s. None of her husband’s financially supported her. In fact, it was the opposite way around. She also financially and emotionally supported her family and many extended family members. She had her standards and she stood by them, but she was not cruel, rude or uncaring. You may hold your opinion about this fine lady, that’s your choice, but I do believe your base of knowledge could be expanded with compassion.
