I kind of like the fact that this is posted in chunks. I don't think I could cry for a whole hour and a half in one go.
Mrs. Carter is and will remain an inspiration. What makes me sad is not that I'm going to miss her; it's all the people gathered in her honor who WILL miss her. From what I've seen today, she was a wonderful person just as a family member, neighbor, and friend, to say nothing of her impact on the wider world.

I think the idea was that religion has caused a lot of strife in the world (and deaths). President Carter himself said that what so-called ‘evangelicals’ have done to the faith is so far away from what Christ actually taught, that if Christ himself appeared, these ppl would give him the boot. He’s not wrong either. A lot of ppl who claim this faith use it as a WEAPON against ppl who don’t look like them, act like them or believe what they believe. THIS kind of vile misuse of religion is wrong and definitely not ‘Christian.’

Imagine’ is undisputedly Lennon’s most widely revered track from his post-Beatles career but, in truth, the song feels as though it no longer belongs to him due to the plethora of different ways it has been interpreted over the last half a century. The legacy of the song was most perfectly summarised by President Jimmy Carter, who noted: “In many countries around the world - my wife and I have visited about 125 countries - you hear John Lennon’s song ‘Imagine’ used almost equally with national anthems.”

    Song…”Imagine….No religion too”
I think many are missing the point of the song. John is saying if there were no religion the wars would be over, for wars seem to always start over religion, whether it’s Hamas and Israel, the terrorists who created 9/11, the Mideast wars, Hitler etc. The word “religion” is meant to be about religious fanaticism, not necessarily about people’s personal spiritual views. We have certainly seen the results of religious fanaticism in the US too.

The Carters are Christians so a song which starts with "Imagine there is no heaven" is not appropriate no mater how sweet the melody and the singing. The writer John Lenon once commented that he (Lenon) was more popular than Jesus. The starting lyrics
    Imagine there's no heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us, only sky
    Imagine all the people

I don't think the song "Imagine" was appropriate to sing at the memorial of Rosalyn Carter. The reason I don't is because of the lyrics in the song that is sung "Imagine there is no heaven it's easy if you try. No Hell below us above only sky." Both Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter are both rooted deeply in the christian faith. They very much believe in a Heaven and a Hell.
That is the reason I could never like the song "Imagine" because I also believe in a Heaven and a Hell. Other than this song sung at Rosalyn's memorial. I think
the rest of the ceremony was beautiful.

    • @methaqualone5191
      @methaqualone5191 8 месяцев назад

I agree that it was probably not the song to sing for Rosalyn's funeral since she is a Christian, but not everyone believes the same thing. Jewish people don't believe in hell nor does any other non-Christian. There was no hell in the Old Testament since Hell is a Christian invention. But I, too, wondered why they had chosen this particular song.

@DDd-gm8uz The First Lady was a pacifist and she was not an elected official. She did not wage war against anyone or support a regime that was ruthless. President Carter was not a great president. I believe he got in over his head from the beginning, not realizing how difficult a job he had won. The “Third World”, from Latin America to Africa, was, at that time, mired in violence and corruption, he inherited a lot of issues and did not act in the interest of the people to alleviate their suffering. He will always be judged for his many mistakes. Yet, Rosalyn Carter did none of these things. She was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family, her husband, her church and her country. She should be honored for the life she lived. ☮️

The ongoing argument, and majority of traditional Christians commenting, feel the lyrics are in abject conflict with the Carter's lifelong Christian beliefs, practices, and participation in their church. It is well known they taught Sunday School. It is impossible to "Imagine" this song being played in their Church for her funeral. Can you clear this question up ? Did THEY choose the song, personally. Not "aides or organizers". Jimmy or Rosalyn, Personally.

This song is about asking us to imagine if this world would not be a better place if we did not have religion, something that was so near and dear to the Carters. If this is what Jimmy wanted OK, or did this come from the children. A funeral at a church seem a odd place for this song.

I'm a little surprised they left the "no religion too" line in there . . .

I'm not, its relevant to subject matter of the song and what it was written about. Being a memorial service , chances are it was requested.

Perfect song? It's an atheist song. It's inappropriate for a Christian woman.

    🎶 Imagine going to Heaven
    It's easy if you try.
    Seeing Rosalynn up there.
    And John and George too.
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday we will join them
Meanwhile helping the World to live as one🎶

@@donmcbean7465 The point is, at the funeral of a Christian woman, they chose to sing a song imagining that there is no religion or heaven. It is an incredible disconnect. This was John Lennon's ode to Communism. It is a terrible message wrapped in a beautiful melody. Because the song sounds pretty, you think it is appropriate for a funeral. The message is not appropriate.
