- Country singer Trisha Yearwood honors her husband Garth Brooks during the 43rd Kennedy Center Honors festivities.
“The Kennedy Center Honors serves as a moment to celebrate the remarkable artists who have spent their lives elevating the cultural history of our nation and world,” said Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein. “Garth Brooks heightened country music’s profile like no other singer before him.”
Reflective of this unique time in history, the Center’s entire campus came alive with small, in-person events and re-envisioned virtual tributes. Featuring multiple events for physically-distant audiences in locations across the Kennedy Center’s campus including the Front Plaza of the building, the Grand Foyer in front of the John F. Kennedy bust, and the iconic Opera House stage, programs for each event encompassed both performances and speaking tributes for the Honorees.
“This past year has taught us many things including the need to be flexible and adaptable,” stated Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter. “They say necessity is the mother of all invention. The unusual circumstances inspired and opened up new ways for us to present a deeper experience, and hopefully understanding, of the art and lifetime work of our Honorees. 2020 has also shined a bright light on the impact of how art and culture speaks to our collective human experience. It can meet us at any moment-and sustain us during the most challenging days. Each of the 43rd Kennedy Center Honorees and their work continues to speak to American culture and our national fortitude. We are thrilled to be able to fete these cultural icons in a time where the world and the nation needs the arts more than ever.”

Mr. Garth Brooks befriended a dear friend of mine's daughter, Emily Crockett, who was battling a brain tumor at the time. Garth was Emmy's hero. He invited her & her mom (Valerie Crockett) to New York for the evening, and then once they got there, extended the invite to the weekend. They had the most marvelous time ... and were treated so well and kindly. Em had horrible headaches due to the cancer at the time, and Garth insisted on lowering the lights (which added so much pain) when he was around. Garth gave Emmy his guitar as it was the last night of his tour at the time, which meant to much to her. Val wrote a song "Emily's Angel" about the experience ... Garth ~ our hats are off to you ~ you're a wonderful person! Congratulations on this incredible honor, which you truly deserve! Thank you for that experience you shared with Emmy and Val - it brought them both so much joy at a time when they really needed some!

I have always held high respect for Garth Brooks and his amazing music. And I must say that I believe there is no other woman that could stand beside Garth but Trisha Yearwood. She has been my favorite female singer since I was in high school. Both Trisha and Garth are beautiful together. I love them both. 😁💕

I was working in the US in 1995 with assembling machines in Bowling Green KY and we go to Nashwville TN on Wild Horse to listening and look and we was listening on GB the hole time we where in the US, there and i learn to love the american people and 2018 some americans come to work in Sweden and i toke care of them the same as they did in KY and i hope we are going to visit the us again in the summer and look at dragracing. Excuse me my spelling but it is my second language.

Two country music phenomena.
I felt Garth, along with the other honorees were robbed of the presentations that they truly deserved at the Kennedy Center. To have seen the production numbers for Dick Van Dyke on the Kennedy Center stage would have been amazing. Same with the collaboration of the choreographer Debbie Allen and the violinist Midori. Joan Baez's music should have that the full stage as well. The finale of Garth's music would have brought the house down, especially ending with "Friends in Low Places".
