Another Pentecost? Revealing Azusa’s True Character - S01E36

- Опубликовано: 7 фев 2025
- This episode offers insight on the Azusa Street Revival (1906) unlike any you would receive from a modern Pentecostal church today. A series of dynamic, Holy Spirit-led revival meetings in Los Angeles isn’t exactly how the story goes. Chaos, frenzy, and a plethora of neighborhood complaints was more the gist. Join the continuation of episodes exposing the history of the UPC, its tongues doctrine, and the false claims of a second Pentecost to come.
But all things should be done decently and in order. -1 Corinthians 14:40

Such interesting information, thank you again for taking the burden off believers and giving peace that leaving was the right decision for me at least
My wife and I had church today in our house. God showed up, as He does everyday. He is always with us. And get this, we did not speak in tongues! I guess it would have been confusing to my wife if I did?
See, my wife don't speak shaka laka huma shaka. Even if I can make it eloquently flow off of my tongue.
She speaks English.
God is soooooo great! He is not the author of confusion.
Just be careful and prayerful because the Lord does intend for believers to be a part of an actual church. I know it's hard to find a biblical one! But don't give up.
Born and raised UPC, I have never spoken in tongues and not for the lack of trying. I was never considered to be saved, no matter how hard I prayed or how I lived my life, I was bound for hell. It was not until I left church and began talking with others who also left that I learned many of them faked it! They faked speaking in tongues but I lived most of my life believing I was destined for hell because I couldn't.
Long for Truth's channel was also very instrumental to my investigation into the history behind the UPCI. I resonate so much with your story as I encountered the very same study into Charles Parham and the gap of speaking in tongues prior to the 20th century. It's so jarring to discover how fragile the foundation of our former organization was built upon. Mentioning these names to my fomer cohorts would draw blank stares. Just goes to show, you have to either dismiss the insane history behind their movement or paint-up the details if you acknowledge and convienently leave out certain details, as the UPCI's content does which you've shown.
Well put. We talk often about how crazy it is to have been a part of something we thought was "full truth" and find out that a lot was founded on fraud and scam. Thank you for sharing! :)
The 30 seconds intro alone was great. You guys earned yourself a new sub!
Haha, thanks!
I’ve been binge watching your latest episodes since I first came across your channel at the beginning of this week. My uncle Billy was one of the original 60 who founded the UPC back in the day. My mom and grandparents came out of the UPC about 35 years ago. But we found ourselves in a church with very similar characteristics. It was a non denominational (Pentecostal) very hyper charismatic and called themselves a “John the Baptist Church” that would usher in the return of Christ. We left that church 3 years ago and have been recovering and reconstructing our theology. We were completely shunned by the church which is sad, but it’s so encouraging to hear your story and the help that you are giving to those who have come out of these systems. God bless! 🫶🏻
Love you, guys. I’ve been with ya from the beginning of the podcast and haven’t missed a week. As Apostolic royalty, I learned as a teenager to not express my own thoughts, opinions or interpretations of scripture when I was pulled aside at a family gathering by my father (who was also my pastor/Bishop) telling me that IS NOT WHAT WE BELIEVE! It never made sense to me that one had to speak in tongues to be saved. You both do a great job of expressing things that I kept inside myself for years. I appreciate your delivery and encouragement. It would be easy to just walk away from God after learning of the deception of this movement. You help me to hold fast. I love it when Tiffany starts crack up at things that was once normal to us, but now looking back it is so absurd. You and I would be great friends!! Keep it coming!
Thank you so much for listening and sharing! It seriously means so much to us. Wow, how brave you were at a young age! Wish I'd had those guts! :) I guess it doesn't do much good when you're silenced, but still, thank God for people like you who stand up. Thank you for the encouragement. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for our listeners ❤️
Hey all!!! I just found this page 😮😅🥰🥰🥰 I wondered what what direction you guys went! I can’t watch right now, but you have a great load of content I can’t wait to see!!! -Lori
Hi Lori!!! We look forward to your thoughts! Think and talk of you often! ❤️
I could listen to you guys for hours! I love your sweet way of pointing out false doctrine, and then carefully replacing it with Biblical fact! 😂
Your delivery is refreshing and has not only helped me, but I believe it’s helping so many realize that what they’ve been taught is wrong and in turn, helping them to heal. Not only that, but more importantly; come to truly know the depth of God’s love for them, through Christ.
As you continue sharing; I pray you are blessed beyond measure! 🙏🏼✝️🙌🏻
Oh, this is so kind and encouraging! Thank you ❤️ we wouldn't be here without our listeners, so we are just thankful we get to be a part of a community that shares the same journey with us. God bless!
I’ve check out mentally. My wife is still wrestling with it. We got kids and I’m trying to find a way of escape. Appreciate what you guys do
Oh man...we do understand this kind of process, it's not easy. We will be praying for you! And thank you for sharing and being a part of our channel.
Justin and Tiffany, I do really appreciate the work and ministry God is calling you to through this channel. I can tell how frustrated you both are with the bad doctrine that was taught to you through this organization. I also get very frustrated with the misrepresentation of the tounges, and am looking forward to the next episode. Thanks!
P.S. I liked the lonnng episode!!
Thank you Matthew! We really appreciate your listenership and encouragement. It takes a village to walk off the bad theology! :)
The modern day preaching of the past revival is so embellished and manipulative! Thanks guys
A question from a logical standpoint, and there may be a good answer that I’m just not aware of. Why would you need an interpreter for tongues if the very purpose of the tongues was because there was a lack of an interpreter. In other words if they were given the gift of tongue so they could speak in everyone’s language why does Paul talk about keeping silent unless there’s an interpreter makes no sense.
I grew up UPCI and had never even heard of Charles Parham! The history isn’t really taught other than of course everyone within the org knows Azusa street. Thank you for illuminating the history!
Same over here! Never heard his name once until we left.
Thank you for sharing!
I agree with some of your opinions including abuse which stems from men wanting to maintain their position and control bc they enjoy the titles and adoration of their praetorian style adherents. It's not true in every church though.
Speaking in tongues is not salvation. Do some sensationalize it? Yes
I can only say what I've heard from my teacher. "Everyone thinks speaking in tongues is it."
However, the doctrine of one God and baptism in the name of Jesus is absolute and doesn't change.
I wasn't born and raised in the UPC and wasn't brought into it until 96 while stationed in Hawaii. I was baptized in the name of Jesus. I never spoke in tongues before others and not during services. It did happen while i was alone with God. This disturbed my pastor and others of course.
When my pastor and evangelists were sitting with me after a certain service, they asked me what i thought of tongues and if i spoke yet. I told them that "i can only tell you what i was told" and they never questioned me again.
Paranormal is that word I believe Justin was thinking of.
💯
It’s interesting to me that Pastor Gurley was talking about both of them given that prophecy for 100 years from now at about 100 years from that time. If it would’ve been 50 years, would they have said the prophecy was for 50 years from now?
The Bible is full of "experiences" by people, not sure if you read it but it's really good.
Paul says that you should have an interpreter and if you speak you should also pray that you can interpret. If you look at Acts ch 2 Peter is telling them they crucified the Messiah and they ask Peter what shall we do? Peter then answers them. Peter is having a conversation and sharing the gospel in a language he does not know. He is able to interpret the unknown language and answer their questions. Peter is not screaming “thus sayeth the Lord you are the head and not the tail, you’re a modern day David, etc.” I grew up in the Arkansas Pentecostal Church of God and was shamed for being a spectator and not a participator until I was old enough to move out of my parents house. I was an atheist for 15 years until I got suicidal and was googling how much NyQuil it would take to not wake up. I came across Chris Rosebrough, Justin Peters, The Kozars and Longs and now you guys. I was a PK and played drums and guitar but I have had to relearn everything bc even though I had been in church for 20 years I still didn’t know what the Bible even said besides the Sunday school Bible stories. Thank you guys for what y’all are doing.
Wow....you have a beautiful story. Thank God for His mercy and grace towards us. And thank you for sharing about Acts 2. It's so important to keep context at the front. We are thanking God you found good biblical channels and are studying to show yourself approved. What a blessing. Thank you for sharing this comment about your journey. It is so helpful for others to hear, so they know they aren't alone!
As a Catholic, I can assure you that confessing other people's sins is definitely not Catholic. Very odd.
"Glow in the dark people" 😂😂
They act like they were the only ones there .I believe they worship asuza street
