This is so good for moubtain biking. We really needed a way for new riders to get a cheap bike to seenif they liked the sport before they spent tons of money on an expensive one.
1st comment here and you know something crazy is that when I got my first Full suspension MTB I was thinking that they forgot to add the kickstand lol 😂
I got the Ozark Trail Ridge, and that bike has been my gateway to MTB. I have slowly upgraded it over this past year, and I'm very happy with the results. So, I can't wait to try this bike as well
I assume you're going to have your shop go over the setup for you, if you do it might make an interesting video if they'd be willing to do it on camera to talk about the good and bad they're finding in the setup and parts, etc. Like any new bike you'll want to be careful on it while you figure out what it can and can't do. It's good to see mass-market bikes at least getting a genuine attempt at higher end options.
Holy smoke, you put it together yourself. I'm impressed.
Haha I put it together just enough to take it to my friend who knows what he’s doing 🤣
Perfect bike to upgrade
give it a good thrashing....! 🤣. watched mo and Hannah last night, they reviewed a 12.3k bike. real pricey. great on you to try and encourage others to ride showing what's out there!
looks stunning (at least from the viewer standpoint)
I got that ozark trail the gravel one because of your video, the bike still pretty good, your videos helps a lot of people to choose the right bike.
Got that for my GF and that thing is awesome. I want one too lol
This is incredible
Awesome that you are reviewing budget bikes. I think a lot of enthusiasts started with a wallmart bike back in the day. They all got stolen too 😆.
Haha very true! Thank you for watching, I truly appreciate it
Someone stole my bike once and left me a Pacific with a wallyworld sticker on it once.
Cant wait to see you shred it on the trails, love all your content Matty.
Thank you so much!
Looks dope
Walmart greasing them wheels
Cues cassette even
😂😂😂 Like a little kid on Christmas Day
Shimano cues? Hell yes
Great job!!! Love your socks, Walmart Ozark trail bikes Rock ❤
Great deal for an entry full sus mtb, im guessing the front wheel is also thru axle and dropper routing is a thing? Seatpost diameter would be worth a mention.
Great to see a nice frame and whhelset that can be upgraded at that price.
A dirt jumper too Ozark trail
I saw that! Hopefully I can try that out as well.
My first mountain bike over 30+ years ago was an Ozark Trail, road the heck out of that bike! Got me started and am still at it so many years latter.....on nicer bikes now of course. But every body needs an affordable place to get started.
Let's see what it'll do. I was expecting the traditional green but that white is pretty nice
Be interesting to see if it actually is more than a gimmick. I'm very skeptical at that rear suspension, especially with a no name chinesium coil on the back. The Shimano cues drivetrain was a good call on their part. I do have to wonder if it might have been better for them to make a hardtail with a better spec at this price point vs trying to make a sub $500 full sus
That’s a great point about the hardtail. I plan to take it out today for a ride so it’ll be interesting to see how it rides
the rear shock is an Exa-form. So while not a huge name like Rockshox or Fox it isn't a no-name brand.
@ But is it a legit brand, or unsafe garbage like Bolany?
@@mrvwbug4423 Exa Form is made by KS (KindShock). You might know their dropper posts? Not super high end and definitely made to keep costs down, but decent stuff that works.
Biggest Beef with the bike is the front fork... They did great with the rear end 12x148 axle but left it a QR in the front. So the second you go and upgrade that fork it will be a 95% chance you'll need to get a new rim too. Also Walmart needs to start adding Geo specs on the website. Still its a Decent starting platform for someone wanting to get in on the cheap and then build skills and learn to wrench on their bike.
For the price point and what it comes with it is hard to complain. The frame is boost, which is fantastic for a box store bike. Kudos to Walmart for an entry level bike that appears to be capable out of the box.
If it were me, I would throw a decent pair of pedals and a dropper post on the bike first. Look to replace the fork with an air fork and pick up used or take-off boost wheels that are tubeless ready on FB Marketplace. Probably replace the Kenda tires with something better. Not sure if it is a square taper BB, if so replace that and cranks too. Upgrade the cassette to an 11 speed. Obviously the rear suspension is the big thing on this bike, curious to see how well it rides, if possible maybe pick up a used air shock to replace the coil and save some weight. Other than the pedals and dropper, none of the other upgrades are needed at the outset. One can easily ride and upgrade over time, especially with the boost frame.
OK, Barring any horrible reviews, this is my next bike. I will not be keeping it stock.
It's so funny the "I'm gonna add x, y and z". The upgrade addiction is real. Just ride the $498 bike and enjoy it. Re-grease it, re adjust everything. But send it. I'm thinking cheap WalmartBikes are getting better.
KevCentral already covered this bike.😂
Swap a Cues deraiuller with a clutch and mt201 brakes and this should be a really sweet ride! Cues will go up to 1x11, but honestly the m5100 Deore is a better choice at that point. The cues 1x9 with a clutch is perfect for a newbie, I swapped my old 3x bike to cues 1x9 with a clutch and it's a great spare/loaner bike for friends now.
Release date?
another channel had them showing at $498. not sure if the tariffs are going to drive the price up. Im ready for one though, super pleased with the the other 2 OT bikes I own. They really are designed well and great quality
Looks decent, do the rear pivots and linkage use bearings or just bushings?
I’m honestly not sure, I’ll find that out though
Walmart brothers are really trying hard to shake the market.
Do u know when they will be available for sale ?
They are for sale now but out of stock 😔
they said early march but I’m not sure if they are already out yet because it’s showing on the website as out of stock
is that Suntour fork the same fork they have on $4k+ e-mtbs?
It’s pretty close.
I'm curious on the frame's rating, classification for use... category 1, 2 or 3, most likely not a 4 (all-mountain)
When is it gunna be available
They told me in stores Early march but may be even sooner online
I woke up at 1:00 a.m. to look at my phone and sell this bike on Kev Central totally impressed it completely blows me away 120 mm of travel on the fork 64 ° head tube angle quite slack leaving quite an impressive view of the bike it's described as a gray but looks more like a white this leaves it quite easily decorative matching colored pedals grips etcetera yesterday I decided it was not going to buy a Scott aspect 9:50 I've got a bike somewhat similar a KHS 650 200 I'm going to repair and possibly upgrade that one before I get a new bike I'm setting aside weekly sum to save up for this bike other than that I've got a rental rebate in a tax refund I know where that's going I should be able to get the pedals and grips at the same time I was so excited last night I thought that I would never sleep well I certainly did I'm entirely excited and won't rest until this bike is in my bike room
Definitely seen a lot worse bikes for that price, be good to see how it holds up. I have a fairly high end mountain bike that I built up but also bought that ozark trail gravel bike you reviewed last summer as a bit of fun and it’s actually not bad, the brakes are pretty sucky though.
This is definitely a game changer. A few small upgrades and changes and you have a solid FS bike for under $1000.
Im sick, I just spent $480 on a FS frame and this comes out 😂
why, for the love of god can't they make size XL frames? I'd love to get this bike but I need an XL frame. It really pisses me off that basically anyone 6'2 and taller is just s*** out of luck for properly sized bikes at Walmart. They don't even need to sell them in-store, just give an XL option to order online and I would be happy.
Can we fit a 29x2.6 in the rear? What are the dimensions of the rear shock in case we want to upgrade? Will Walmart sell stiffer springs for the rear shock for heavier riders?
Hopefully I’ll have all that info in the next video!
@MattyActive much appreciated and I'll be looking forward to it.
Probably need to go through Kindshock to get shock springs. Looking at Walmart the shock is a 185mm x 48mm
@@jamesrohner3792 is it already on their website? I couldn't find it
Just bought the ridge yesterday… gonna be returning it and getting this 😂, any word about availability? Shows out of stock
They said it wasn’t supposed to be available until early march so Im not sure if it’s just saying that because it’s not available or not.
The biggest downside for me would not being able to drop the post all the way down which imo as a hard tail rider would be crucial if I purchased a full suspension.
U could cut the post or get a dropper
@@IMTB2. But won't the curved tube prevent the dropper from going all the way down?
I'm even passing by the Schwinn axum comp x at 334 to save for this one I've got a bike already in this category also would have to do is add and drop her post and I would have actually a better bike than the Schwinn
Marty why don’t you just ride it hard the way it is out of the box, no changes and review it. The point of this bike is it’s great value and the person buying it just wants to shred it how it is I think? I just wish we had a bike like this in Australia.
I wish ozark trail would make something for the crowd that’s over 6’…..
Large of this bike is "5'10-6'2+" according to the manufacturer
@ im 6’4” but I didn’t think dark trail even makes large? Hmm..
All i see are these in black
I'm tempted to sell my m.2 for this
I'd suggest waiting a year, or two. This is the Beta Test. Just like with the Ridge29, after the reviews come in, Walmart will make upgrades. (I assume)
Ummmmmm buy now?

Might be ok for a but those brakes will have to go, some shimano mt200s would be way better
For sure, I think that’s the first thing
Idk my shimano mt200 I upgraded to there not that strong
@IMTB2. try some semi metallic pads with new rotors, the resin aren't the best
Matt, I dig your vibe. Your positive attitude and even-handed analysis makes for great videos. Hope to see you on the Bentonville/Bella Vista trails sometime
Thanks for covering lower end bikes like this. I have a Roscoe 8 and X Caliber 8, but I have a relative who refuses to spend "Bike store" level money for even their lowest price offerings. I am trying to help them pick out a lower end bike for this reason. It's good to know they're using CUES on some bikes as I look at the cheaper components on some bikes at Walmart and it worries me as the hardware does not look compatible with any known name brands.
Same frame as fastwork from aliexpress. Probably the same company that makes them from Taiwan.
Don't really trust Walmart bikes anymore after my experience with the gravel one.
Sort of confused - These newer Walmart bikes seem to be OK in opinions given on videos. Yet, there are a lot of others that say all "BIg Box" bikes are junk.
I wouldn't say they're junk, but you kinda get what you pay for.
They are getting slowly better, but in the past you'd find freewheel 7 speeds rather that 8speed free hubs. Straight taper rather than tapered head tubes. 27mm sea tubes.
This bike still has square taper cranks and bargain brakes, and a just suspension. Its not for enthusiasts, but the enthusiast's friend
matty sold out to walmart
Now, now, be kind. They all do it. You don't really think Seth from Berm Peak, spent a month in Bentonville on his dime do you? :>)
Edit. You do have a point though,. I mean we've all seen video after video from Matty saying Full Rigid is the best. Yet, when the price is right, Full Squish is very nice as well. HMMMM....
I dont buy American product anymore. Sorry IAM Canadian!
It's made in China bro.
@ Walmart is from US
@@florencelabelle6821 ... Gotcha... The stupid trade war going on. Makes sense.
@ Iam not the only one here who do that, belive me.
Canada = Cuba just ask your PM.
