Yes you can trim some roots and stems, also separate some stems (with roots) and grow it individual pot.

I think it's main reason is overwatering and roots are rot. stop watering, when top of the soil feel dry then water it.

Rhapis palm seed are very rare, when plant is too older then it's produce fruit .I seen in wikipedia gallery.
