Watching this video is trippy because where I'm from (Pennsylvania) what he calls the throw-by is what we call a slide-by, and what he calls a slide-by is what we call a throw-by 😂
I always heard people saying how the throw-by doesn’t exist and I made it up and how it’s only a slide-by. I grew up hearing throw-by (where you drape and grab the elbow). That’s all I ever heard. I remember when I got older and I heard “slide-by” and I was like…. You mean throw-by? Haha but I do like making a difference between them now so it’s easier to teach and differentiate the two.
I love this move. In Gi it's alot easier to do, and if u got a really stubborn opponent u could always just do a sacrifice throw using this technique. The only difference would be the grips and the grips on the gi are obvious, just grab the back of the collar and the sleeve where the bicep is. So this technique does wonders in both Gi and No-Gi!
The throw by and slide by are very hard in the Gi because usually your opponent would be making a grip(s). You could take the time to break the grips but making another grip very fast would be easy. On top of that I do not see a collar tie being very common in Gi since you can hang on collar grips, sleeve grips, or shoulder grips (compared to No Gi where you can hang on the head / collar tie). End of the day if your opponent does collar tie with you in the Gi with no grips you can 100% hit this, but there will most likely always be some type of grip in your way. You could look at an arm drag from space (before you are tied up) or typical single, double, throws, etc. Does this help?
@@themerge.online yeah that definitely helps and I appreciate the reply. I wasn't sure if there was some kind of tweak you could make to a throw by or slide by when they grab your gi collar. Anyway, I love the channel!
Over top drag.. exactly the same thing i worked with Chertow an taught my eldest son. He dominated anyone that collar tied. You are dragging them by the elbow as you pass.
Why this channel is not already HUGE, I'll never know. This is great content!

Nice breakdown. Thanks for the explanation.
Makes a ton of sense. Throw by because of a grip pulling. Slide by because of a sliding wedge!

Love the detail and the match footage!

How well does this work in a gi when they have a collar grip? Or is there another move you prefer when in the gi?

Great discussion -- But I'm pretty sure 0.20 is 1/5 of a second -- not 1/3.
