I’ve been following your music since stumbling across your wonderful over the hills video over 10 years ago. And you’ve been my favorite musician ever since. My music tastes have changed over time and somehow you’ve never written a song I didn’t like in all that time. You somehow exclusively keep writing my favorite songs. I am very grateful for the music you’ve shared with the world and look forward to you writing my next favorite song.
This song is so beautiful. As an English-speaker (although out languages appear to have the same root if you go back far enough), I have done my best to translate the words to this song, but I still have two questions: 1. The first paragraph, when you say (pardon my rough translation) "... it splits at the cheek and becomes whole again behind you" - what does "splits at the cheek" mean? Are you saying that love splits before her face, and only returns when it passes behind her? As if love avoids her? 2. What is the significance in this song of edelweiss? I know it's a flower in the Alps, but poetically what does it mean, and does it connect to the "too late for love pure as snow" idea in the song, since this flower is white like snow? Great writing and piano work, just trying to clarify the meaning for someone who lives in a different language and culture.
yes, you are quite on the right track! I really love the picture of love as wind, unreachably high between the treetops, and when coming down, avoiding the person. I don’t know what Edelweiss means here, but somehow i’m fine with that :) i wish he would sing more often in swedish, and write himself (that song is a cover of Håkan Hellström)
The edelweiss flower is often used as a symbol for deep love, purity and devotion. The song is about regret, and I like to think that Håkan means "it is too late for love" And yes, as someone stated earlier, this is a song by Håkan Hellström from 2008. I'd recommend you check him out if you enjoy this.
When he sings about "it" splitting in the third line the literal interpretation is that it's a continuation of the second line where he talks about the wind. The subject of the song has not felt the touch of the wind as the wind splits before their cheek, avoids them, and then is reformed behind them. What is "the wind"? That's for your personal interpretation of the song to decide, but it being a metaphor for love is of course a natural interpretation

I don't need to understand a word to love it.

This song always makes me happy because it usually means I’m at a TTMOE concert and it’s about to start! ❤
