Funny enough, when I watch these videos I only look at Ollie’s reaction because I know he’ll give us a genuine review, even if his tastes are different from ours. All food is “good” to Josh, plus he may be more focused on giving video-friendly “influencer reactions”.
@@MichelleD2023 I need to ACTIVELY focus on Ollie more because watching Josh eat is my least favorite part of the videos. Ollie def seems more genuine & sincere in everything he does. 💜
My thoughts exactly! I've been holding off going to NYC for nearly 3 years, I must admit, its high time I go back for another visit, especially to that steakhouse!
When chef Hooni was talking about tasting the cow and Josh immediately "mmm"ed, I was expecting a guest appearance from the cartoon cows from Gabi's videos. Also, he makes a great point that I think a lot of foreigners visiting America don't realize: Yes, our portion sizes are about two meals worth, but part of the reason is that you're expected to take some home. We're not the only place with a strong leftover culture (I know it's pretty common to cook once and eat two or three times in Japan and Korea, for instance), but I think we may be the only country where leftover culture is an integral part of the restaurant experience.
This is definitely news to me. In my experience, I would think that having leftovers even if you can take them home is considered "unclassy". Love this for ya.
@soonlet Yeah, in the US it's very much standard practice. Some people think it's a little _déclassé_ in the fanciest/most expensive of restaurants, but just about anywhere you might have your average date or birthday dinner or company team lunch or whatever reason random 99%ers go out to eat, no one thinks it's weird to get your leftovers boxed up to go. In fact, an easy way to tell how fancy a place is [trying to be] is whether they box your leftovers up for you or just give you a takeout container to fill yourself (though honestly I prefer the option to figure out what I want together vs. separated, and maybe get that one side the other person didn't like but I did, you know, better customization when you do it yourself).
@@soonlet4977 In the U.S. it’s genuine considered rude to waste food. Especially, considering you already paid for it. My sister often brings home half her meal for me.
@@Appaddict01 I wish this it's more prevalent everywhere else. I'm really pleasantly surprised and frankly shocked this isn't the norm and I can't think of any other country I know that generally does this. But now I'm gonna pretend I'm American as an excuse to do this.
@@tildessmoo in Australia it’s 50:50 whether they’ll offer it. Never happen in a high class restaurant. If you do take leftovers they are not allowed to box it for you anymore (law changed awhile ago) they’ll give you boxes for you to do it yourself. I would hardly ever take anything home. I’ve done it but it’s rare for me. Don’t trust myself to eat it in time and then I’d just have to throw it out anyway. 😊

It's interesting how oysters go through phases when they're considered to be peasant food for the poor, then expensive status food, then peasant food again. A good book on the history of oysters (and a very enjoyable really funny read), is Kurlansky's "The Big Oyster." All his books are really good, actually.
I just hope it's the last time Ollie tries oysters. As someone who loves them, it bothers me to see them wasted. Everyone(?) has something they don't like to eat. No reason to force it.

You guys can try nearly every cuisine here and it will be some of the best food you will ever have. You really have to try NYC Sushi. The quality restaurants have the fish imported from Tokyo. Go to Sakagura for drinks then to the amazing Sushi Yasuda across the street. Sasabune, Momokawa and Sushi Noz are my locals, all incredible. Then there is Sushi Seki, a lifetime favorite. The sushi is amazing, but the freshly made noodles and broth are divine. Hasaki on 9th str near 3rd ave is one of the best casual places, great for lunch. That and Korean barbecue would make great videos.
I ran the private dining rooms in a French restaurant here in the States, and I am surprised that people don't know about sending a glass of vino as a pre-meal tip or a post-meal thank you. Just as I often tip before a meal (knowing I may need to top off with more tip later), I will sometimes send a glass to a chef before the food comes out, so they know that we are looking forward to a wonderful evening. I've seen extra courses (like an amuse-bouche) hit the table GRATIS!
With how tipping culture has escalated in the US, if I'm dining out at a super fancy restaurant the last thing I'm thinking about is to also send the chef a beer or a glass of wine before or after a meal. I read Kitchen Confidential, from that pov drugs would be more suitable Would I send a glass the next time I'm dining out? Probably not.
Honestly I don't think it's that common in the UK, so I'm not surprised they didn't know. I feel like the main reason people give wine to the chef/staff here is when they are too full to finish it. And literally no one would tip before eating, but then again the tipping culture is completely different here compared to the US.
@@theskydeity Oh, I was referring to Americans. I did my post-grad in the UK and restaurant culture is definitely different. I remember the waiter looked at me oddly when I asked, "May I start with the (whatever) while I look over the menu."
@@anasandoval6698 I am getting tired of the "Would you like to add $5 to your bull for our local charity?" (What? So you can get the tax write-off and not me?). Or "We suggest an additional $___ for back of house." (What? Have your wait staff tip out, use a point system, or pay your Boy staff more than what you are now). I really like the European system where the price on the menu is what you pay (food wise - where taxes are added in to the menu price). The tip is often a rounding up, because they pay them properly and don't expect the diner to pay for the help.
The very best cut on the steer is a rolled rib cap steak (spinalus muscle). It is removed from the whole rib eye, cut in half across the width, flipped and rolled and tied, then cut into steaks. Heaven

It's interesting how so many flavors can be contained in a single animal, or even a single cut of meat. It's a lot like music. I once showed my friend (who was no novice to music, but was choral in his studies) how many different sounds can be pulled out of one cymbal. Meat is like that. Lot of flavors from one instrument.
Steak! YES! Nowadays, we split a ribeye (my favorite cut...& really the only steak we usually buy) *three* ways. It's so expensive! Luckily, my husband & daughter prefer to split the filet so I get the cap! 💃💃💃 Oh, & I save the large bits of fat for our friends' dogs who we frequently watch. Happy dogs!

LOVE YOUR CHANNEL JOSH AND OLLIE!!! i've never laughed out loud so many times watching your content! ollie, you are correct to say the filet mignon is your favorite cut. there's no such thing as a "beginner steak" -- hooni is wrong. the correct answer to what's the best cut of meat at any legitimate NYC steakhouse is "IT DOESN'T MATTER, THEY'RE ALL GOOD." i've been going to steakhouses in NYC for 20 years and everyone's favorite cut of meat is different no matter how often they've gone. also, normal people typically don't have the means to visit a nyc steakhouse so regularly that you'd take your leftovers and make kimchi fried rice. in the real world chef hooni, we appreciate the opportunity to get a reservation at a steakhouse and try to make the most of it and finish everything we order.

The meat is phenomenal when dressed, dried , and cooked properly.
He’s right about the cap of the ribeye being one of the best bites of beef you’ll ever have. One that you won’t typically find for sale is “chain meat.” It doesn’t sound appetizing, but you get it when breaking down a pismo (whole beef tenderloin), and it’s unbelievably good.

I have to tell you that I recently only discovered your channels and I am hooked! I have been binge watching your videos, and they are a much needed distraction while I am out of work with an injury! Thank you!! Your series with the high schoolers in Korea was wonderful! You really have changed their lives for ever!
This has really become one of my favorite shows on You Tube! Ollie's expressions when eating certain foods just makes me laugh out loud. Josh always has a fun time and seems to have always done his research. on the places that they visit. It's always a good time!!
Love this guest chef and his response to Ollie’s question! Bring him back!
I had no idea you could send wine to the chef. That's such a nice thing to do. 🙂
I suspect a lot more chef's will be getting wine out of this example...
@@prioress Totally!
damn when Chef Hooni said "just imagine kimchi fried rice with the steak" my mouth watering. 10:28
Absolutely fantastic video, guys! I love how you are so open minded and socially vulnerable. The ENTIRE reason for these "experiments" is to learn and grow, which you BOTH show us time and again. You have the perfect gentleman to show you around the steak world. I've been in/out of the food industry for the last 30 years and HE KNOWS HIS SHIT! I also love how you recognize when you've gone against "the norm" and do your best to recover (sending the glass of wine). IMHO, I'd hire either or both of you to be my country's attaches of food/social integration. I know it's not a real title, but I'd create it, just for the two of you.
The "When you're marrying somebody, it's just a woman 👁👄👁💁🏻♂️" bit is SO GOOD 😂

Also a terrible example, the restaurant or steak you eat at had zero value or importance outside of that single meal. Also this chef acts like he couldn't cook just as good of a steak for his family at home.
@@jer280 you completely missed the point of what he was saying in the video lol. A good steak can't be compared to any old piece of meat in the same way that the person you're marrying can't be compared to any random person on the street
He’s so right about fillet being the beginner answer. Filet mignon used to be my favorite and over the last 10 years of learning how to cook myself as well as eating at better restaurants as an adult, the ribeye cap is 100% the best and my favorite cut on the cow.
What an awesome waiter I love how he showed the food to the camera very polite as well ❤
A sip of a good Pinot Noir right after a nice bite of steak is a singularly sublime experience in itself.
I’m here for Ollie being polite to a collection of 🥩 in a freezer. They have feelings too, you know.

@@ToChristBTheGlory Yes they do. I still eat them, though. It's soul is It's spirit. Once something dies, it's spirit leaves the body.
I just have to say that I really enjoy following you guys to the many restaurants in which you indulge. You're a couple of young guys who shouldn't know much of anything and yet even though I've been all over the world including to the best restaurants in the world, I learn something from you every time. Thank you for the service you provide and being so entertaining while you do it. Maybe I'll see you in London. Cheers!
I may be wrong but maybe one of the few times where the guest (Hooni) has out-Ollie’d Ollie 😂
Guys, I've been binge watching your videos all day. This is the most fun I've had on RUclips in a while. I'm so jealous of you, getting to try all those different foods.
Love how chef Hooni looks like he was sitting on his couch eating chips before saying "ya'll wanna go get steak?"
He looks asinine. Going out to an expensive steak house dressed like a 20 year old at McDonalds
He’s world class chef going to a colleagues restaurant on his day off. It’s not a life changing event like it is for a peasant like you.
That's just New York. You could be dressed like a bum and be a multimillionaire at the same time. Look at 7:44 (people with their kids in casual wear)
Lived in Turtle Bay (NYC) neighborhood for 39 yrs. Have been to every great steak joint in NY. Amber is second to none. Worth the ride to Brooklyn.
I love the way Ollie tastes food. He usually looks up, closes his eyes, chews the food and either cringes or smiles widely. Please, please, please post the next time you're in Georgia. I am down the road and a big fan and would love to meet you guys. Enjoy all your shows!
Josh's reactions don't seem genuine and are a bit over the top. I trust Ollie's reactions because they are real - good or bad.
My thoughts exactly! I've been holding off going to NYC for nearly 3 years, I must admit, its high time I go back for another visit, especially to that steakhouse!
YAY! So excited to see the boys being fed well in NYC. Also, Jamie from SortedFood better be watching this video.

Guys, I just realized Jolly has only got 3.72M subs, and yes that is impressive, but... with the content production, the international variety of people/culture they feature, and video editing prowess, not to mention Ollie's unique comedy, they deserve more subs! How do we campaign to get this number up? Of those channels you are subscribed to that have more than 6M-8M subs, compare, and now ask yourself, aren't Jolly videos equal to or even better?
Porterhouse steaks are my favorite and I ate so many of them when I was pregnant with my son, 53 years ago. Now I want to go out today and buy some from a local farmer and have it for dinner tonight!

I really love Chef Hooni! hope to see more of this series with him!!
It's interesting how oysters go through phases when they're considered to be peasant food for the poor, then expensive status food, then peasant food again. A good book on the history of oysters (and a very enjoyable really funny read), is Kurlansky's "The Big Oyster." All his books are really good, actually.
Can't wait for lobsters to go back to peasant status.
The face that Ollie made for the oysters... 😂😂😂
That's me. I'm not sophisticated enough to love oysters.
I love shellfish though.
I just hope it's the last time Ollie tries oysters. As someone who loves them, it bothers me to see them wasted.
Everyone(?) has something they don't like to eat. No reason to force it.
Ollie is me with oysters (and most seafood) 😅
I went to Amber's 2 weeks ago and it was AMAZING! The bone-in Ribeye was the best steak I've ever had. And the creme Brule was so good that I had TWO!!
Love how they show the different cultures of America and all the dishes meeting each other sort of like the German potatoes and stuff
"Nice to meet you all" Stellar Dad joke Ollie, just Stellar :)
Ollie eating and reacting to food compilation should be a thing this year.
Wow, the chef is still at the Amber steakhouse. He's a damn good Chef obviously, been there since the opening. Used to be a Polish cafeteria style food before. Wonder if Andre the GM is still working as well?
Yes, he is.
@ericmgarrison That's interesting! It's also a nice gesture to the chef, too. 😊
It is removed from the whole
rib eye, cut in half across the width, flipped and rolled and tied, then cut into steaks. Heaven
Love going to steakhouse for dinner. I agree the best cut is ribeye. It's my favorite. Thanks guys!!!
only when they have guest does one really realise how much their reaction makes a difference as to how enjoyable food content is
Ollie, you may want to try fried oysters instead of on the half shell. I think they taste a lot better cooked!
I’m so glad y’all tried this while you were in America. I love steak so much😭😭 never had a NY strip though, and let me say, my mouth was WATERING the whole time watching this
It's interesting how so many flavors can be contained in a single animal, or even a single cut of meat.
It's a lot like music. I once showed my friend (who was no novice to music, but was choral in his studies) how many different sounds can be pulled out of one cymbal.
Meat is like that. Lot of flavors from one instrument.
These guys are a hoot. I love their reviews and learning how to love different foods.
Steak!
Happy dogs!
I love how Ollie was double checking the names of the cuts while Josh is speaking like we know what he's talking about
You have such awesome friends! Everytime you bring a guest on they offer a unique persepective on the food they love!

Thank you Ollie for your honesty LOL. I'm not a shell food fan and people always try to say I just haven't had the right ones yet. No Its just Not for me. I'd be making the same faces, too funny.

My fav cut is the NY Strip. After dry seasoning it and cooking it over coals, it's mouth watering delicious.
After Prime Rib my favorite is a Bone-In NY 😊😋😋😊
That's my favorite cut too. Big, beefy flavor!
My second-favorite after a ribeye.
You guys absolutely NEED to try venison! YES, VENISON from the American heartland! Harvested in the wild, organic because they are wild game, but also because they eat from the same pastures grown for feeding cows, chickens, pigs, and other meats; Oats, alfalfa, hay, corn, soy, apples, and, all wild grown vegetation. The meat is phenomenal when dressed, dried , and cooked properly.
Venison is also world class in the uk. Very popular. From the Scottish highlands.
Great episode, the US is all about it's steak and what you had was at the peak of what you can expect from a good Steak House.
I kinda wanna know what happened after they sent the wine to the chef.
Chef Hooni knows where it's at. I love that it's cooked medium rare as well.
A steakhouse that can’t cook medium rare deserves to go out of business.
Not to mention, but I love the fact that Eileen talks to the server like he’s talking his Korean in Korea. Dude, the guy speaks English.😁😁😁😁

I’ve been spoiled on steak. I have several cousins who are farmers. They both raise Black Angus steers, butcher and dry age them themselves. I purchase a half a side from them each year. The quality is unbelievable.
The next time you’re in NYC, you definitely need to try Peter Luger Steakhouse in Brooklyn. It is an iconic NY Steakhouse.
Keens in Manhattan is much better.
This place is just a few blocks from my apartment. Some in NYC swear by other steak houses (and they're not wrong), but I can certainly say my wife and I enjoy Amber as well. Great local staff and patrons. Food is great. If you're ever in Greenpoint Brooklyn check them out.
