This is the kinda video that is awesome for us kayak guys that can only bring so many combos. Good to see that some of the stuff I already have is way more versatile than I thought 👍🏼
You can do a lot more than you think. Everyone gets technical about it. 6'10" med expride Popper, finesse underspin, 3.3 kietech, jerkbait, finesse Texas rig, kietech football jig, blade bait, TN50 etc. That's a lot of categories I've done perfectly fine catching fish on. Braid to leader or straight floro. Did it today and caught smallmouth in the 2.5-3lb range noo problem.
@colingordon5950 it's a great rod. Moderate action with a fast tip 1/4-3/4. I've done great with a lot of baits and techniques. Jerkbait, 3/8 megasbass blade bait, Shower blows 77.7, 3.3 kietech on 1/8oz flashy swimmer at Clearlake, 1/8oz 1/0 Texas rigs just flippingthe bank, I've been throwing the small TN50 lately with no issues. As long as you don't over work the rod and fish it can do a lot. Just let the rod load and get the fish in.
Daiwa Rebellion has a whole 2 piece line up in the $200 range for casting rods. It's hard finding 2 piece casting rods past the $100 price point unless you go JDM.
I remember starting out 3 years ago and using 2 $30-$40 spinning combos from Big 5s and thinking they were good enough. 6 months in I bought a Mojo Bass Spinning rod per TB recommendation and never looked back. Now I’m at 10 combos averaging $500-$600 each combo.
Went to Expride years ago on your rec. Love them. Slowly replacing all my rods with then, except for cranking. I like Curado rods since they tend to be softer and more parabolic. And for bang for buck, you could definitely throw Curado in there. For the price I prefer them over anything else in that price point, and would take one over zodiac all day.
Great video guys. As a Northern guy who adores my GLoomis NRX+ line. I must say, the Megabass P5 Destroyer Wind Buster for an all around is continually blowing my mind. I find it more difficult to find what it doesn't do well. Only gripe is the grip being a tad small, but I also feel that contributes to its incredible sensitivity. Such an unbelievable rod I keep 2 rigged differently on deck at all times.
I absolutely agree with you. The only thing I think it doesn’t do great is nose hooked drop shot. They made something magical with that windbuster. I know it was designed for casting hardbaits into the wind, but I really hadn’t thrown any on it until one day I decided to throw a 110 on it and was blown away
One rod in the Orochi line that you wouldn't think was versatile because of its technique specific name is the Jerkbait special. Besides being an incredible JB rod, it's good for topwater, smaller squarebills, and even some mid cranking like the Deep -X 200's, Rock Crawlers and Wiggle Warts. I'm a JB nut but it had never occurred to me to try it for cranks and squarebills till Randy B said he doesn't use it for JB, but rather as a squarebill rod. I figured if a guy on the Megabass team, who can use whatever rod he chooses recommended it for other things, it was worth trying. Randy was spot on! Anyhow, the JB Special paired with an Aldebaren is a special rod!
I really appreciate that you showed rods and reels separately. Combos are cool but sometimes I want to move reels around on different rods to see where/what they do best
I agree. I’ve found that I like to spend significantly more on the rod than reel, so the videos where they match the price of the two don’t work for me. From a $100 rod to $200 rod, I notice a huge difference. From a $100 reel to a $200 reel, not so much.
Thanks guys one quick question. I'm headed up to Clearlake your old stopping grounds next week. It's gonna be rainy conditions what would you recommend I throw?
Hey Matt and Tim l watched your tackle review on the bfs system so I purchased a dobyns Sierra series rod and curado reel on your recommendation got it from tackle warehouse and I absolutely love it thanks so much!
Since I don't have the ability to have a single rod per technique all the time, I must say that my Exprides are just STUPID good for a couple similar techniques. 6'10" Med Expride with a Chronarch MGL for jerkbaits, flukes, topwater poppers, shaky heads, dark sleepers braid to leader. I just change the leader to Fluoro or Mono depending on the technique. 7'6" Heavy Expride with a Curado DC for Heavy Swim Jig, Swing Head Jig braid to leader, and it is all thanks to you guys introducing me to them!
Can we get some chatterbait vs soft swimbait and spinnerbait vs chatterbait videos. Maybe wacky worm vs shaky head. Stuff like that? Like when is the best scenario to throw certain baits.
I got a good test on my Xpride 6'10 medium two weeks ago when I fought and landed an 18lb Striper on 10lb Invizx! The Shimano Curado allowed her to peel drag while maintaining resistance until J was able to tire her out and she broke off one treble from my jerkbait and bent two others out but she still ended up in my cockpit floor! 🤙
So when I originally bought the Zodias 7'5" med heavy I got it for jigs, Texas rigs & swimbaits etc. I did however use it for finesse A-Rigs before you guys even came out with them or even talked about it. I did the 1/8oz heads in 2020 because I wasn't ready for full size A-Rigs. I needed a rod more versatile & apparently its great for it haha.
Long time subscriber first time commenter. Always look forward to the weekly content. I’m a better angler because of what you guys share. I’m a bank fisherman and love how you mentioned the versatility of the 844MBR for topwater, fitness jig, spinner bait. That’s what I need out of the rods I carry. I’m looking to upgrade my Dobyns DX743c to Gloomis, my question is GLX 844 MBR or NRX+ 844MBR? Any major difference between the two?
Hey guys! Been following the channel for years. Will y’all put out a video on fishing for bass during the bluegill spawn? I hear about targeting them during the shad spawn and the bass spawn all the time but I’ve never seen content related to the bluegill spawn. Thanks!
Got me wanting to pick up more gloomis rods. I have the jig rod with a diawa Tatula limited edition and love it. Probably my second favorite setup behind my duckett j wheeler jerk bait rod and diawa steez
Awesome video. What are your thoughts on the Curado 150 SLX DC, really the DC series? Too many bells and whistles? I have one then later went for the Lew's Andy Montgomery 6'10 and accompanying Pro SP. Is the Curado I have still a good reel for most situations?
You guys read my mind with this specific content🙏🙌🏻👏🏼Just bought a victory-st croix and I just love it 🥰 I am definitely about to by some 7 inch swim baits for this rod, thanks again guys. I want a frogging rod that’s heavy for around $200? Any suggestions Tim or Matt?!
I have it and it’s awesome. You won’t be disappointed. I can only carry 2 rods in my small boat 1 spinning and 1 casting. It’s my do everything rod. Worm, jigs, chatterbaits, spinner bait, frog, crank baits
No disrespect intended guys but curious why Dobyns Champion XP line wasn't mentioned in the rod line section. While I realize not all companies can be represented this companies champion line has more than sixty models ranging from ultra light spinning to extra extra heavy swimbait rods. I know that in the past Matt especially was enthusiastic regarding Dobyns swimbait rods, now it seems like you guys rarely give the brand a mention. I'm not sponsored or affiliated with Dobyns rods, but they truly have a multiple rod lineups that goes from extreme budget to enthusiast expensive. They stand behind their products, have a proven track record, multiple lines and deserve some recognition. (IMO) C'mon guys, show 'em some love !
We need an INDEPTH video on line. I visited a few tackle shops this past weekend and there was A LOT to consider. Seaguar fluoro alone seems to have 4-5 lines of different line that I have all heard mentioned. Please & thanks!
Man I used to fish an ok amount when I was younger but man I have forgot everything and I’ve just been looking for fishing channels that help and y’all’s are great, so I was wondering if y’all have a beginner freshwater fishing guide or anything to that effect. Thx
I wanna know what you guys think of these new googan rods, I’ve seen them everywhere they seem to be nice rods but I wanna see what you guys think about them before I decide to buy a few new rods for new things, such as a soft plastic bait caster combo, which would be best for that? Reel ratio and rod action and length
Curado 150 mgl & Expride B casting is my most recent set up. Got when tackle warehouse has sales so save a lot $. It's been absolutely amazing. It's worth saving for better rods & reels. I know those aren't top of the line by any means. But for price & functionality. I'm not sure I need anything more.
What do you guys think of the jdm bait grip joint compared to just 1 piece , or are they all bait grip joint ? . I like it , 2 piece that can leave it set in 1 piece , 7 H is miraculous.
I picked up a 6’9” medium heavy zodias spinning rod last year for a vanford by accident, thinking I grabbed a medium. Ended up loving it but I get where light/medium light/medium rods come into play but I rarely see or hear about medium heavy spinning rods come into play for bass. I’m guessing basically the same techniques as MH casting rods?
How would you describe the difference between a “Regular” action like the Gamakatsu rod has, compared with say a “Moderate” action or a Crankbait rod? How do they differ/how are those actions similar?
One thing I understand is the Expride and the Dobyns champion xp line are similar in price, and the Expride is clearly better. Where the difference is for me, and most people on a budget, is warranty. When spending that kind of money the piece of mind that comes with Dobyns is a no Brainer. I do love my 6'10" M Expride though lol.
Also the dobyns rods are nearly constantly on some very aggressive sale. At their MSRP their value is questioning, but when you can get one for 20/30/40% off they are a pretty incredible value.
You're paying for the warranty for the Champion. The blank hasn't been updated for a decade, the XP refresh was just to change from Kigan to Fuji guides. They're were great when they first came out, but now clearly behind in terms sensitivity, weight, etc. Even under $200 rods are better with a good enough warranty.
ENTsportd makes a 7ft 2 piece ultralight rod that is perfect for BFS reels. It comes with a medium heavy and a medium rod tip. I have caught 10 pound channel cats on it with my Aldebaran bfs. And it only costs 29 dollars. It's just as good as my dobyns ofcourse not as sensitive but it gets the job done for the price
Hey everyone, looking at getting my first Shimano baitcaster. I’m having a hard time picking between an MGL 150 and DC 150. Looking for something that can cast lighter baits really well as well as something for cranking.
What would be a versatile rod to pair with a Shimano Metanium for mostly bank fishing small lakes and ponds mostly with occasional river fishing in upstate NY state?
I purchased a Shimano SLX A 7' medium heavy 2 piece rod based upon your beginners/advanced series last year. Thinking about pairing it with the Vanford 3000 reel from Shimano. I've fished off/on for years, but really still at the beginning stages. Is this rod and reel combo something you would recommend for a beginner still? Noticed this particular rod didn't make the line up this year, maybe cause it's more on the budget friendly side. Also you recommend the Nasic 2500 reel, but I thought maybe an upgraded reel maybe more beneficial. Or would you recommend that Nasic over the Vanford at my skill level? Still looking for that good overall coverage that you mentioned in your beginners/advanced video. Tks.
I’m just starting to get into bass fishing. The video is great plus a lot of info. For an all around combo budget friendly that could cover multiple techniques. What would you recommend for a spinning setup and a bait cast setup? Spinning for finesse direction and baitcast for bladed baits, etc??
They probably won't be able to get back to your comment but I can offer help. I work at a fishing and tackle store. When you say budget friendly what is your budget for each rod/reel combo?
@@mikeflores371 Daiwa Tatula XT 7' Medium Light for Spinning paired with a daiwa fuego 2500 size reel. For Baitcaster Shimano SLX MH 7'2" with a shimano slx reel. You could go for a medium Tatula XT for your spinning rod if you prefer. I personally like medium light for my finesse setups. While you can go slightly cheaper combos around the $150 instead of $200 mark you will miss out on a lot of sensitivity and comfort that you get for just $50 more for each combo. If you only have 2 rods to do a broad set of a techniques you are going to want them to be fairly nice. It will make fishing more enjoyable.
Do you have recommendations in travel rods? Going on an international peacock bass fishing and wondering if I can do something other than than take an 8foot rod tube.
Comparing megabass levante vs Expride B series. Which is better?? Expride are more exspensive but is there justification for higher price or go with the megabass??
I follow you guys daily and for the most part like your content. I do however have one comment; I never see you talking about the Carbon Lite 2.0 rods. Why not? Are they junk or is it because you are not fans of bass pro? I personally like them a lot for the price point. What say you?
I know you guys recommend the Zodias 6'10"MH quite a bit, but what about the 7'MH? Seems like the extra length would help with casting distance without making it too cumbersome on a kayak. Specs are identical between the two, minus the handle length. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Really liked the vid of your 400 dollar combos buyers guide a few months ago that I picked up a curado mgl and I have noticed it feels sort of “tight” if you know what I mean it just doesn’t free spool at all even with spool tension and brakes almost completely off. Wondering if you have any idea what’s happening
Good morning bros
Good morning. I hope today is a good one!! ✌🏾
This is the kinda video that is awesome for us kayak guys that can only bring so many combos. Good to see that some of the stuff I already have is way more versatile than I thought 👍🏼
You can do a lot more than you think. Everyone gets technical about it.

@colingordon5950 now I'm thinking how many little cranks like a Megabass Z-2, spro Rock Crawler 50, 4" wacky senko.
I come back to these buyers guides often. I could watch 365 days of buyers guide videos.
Nothing better than tactical bassin premiering a movie to kick off spring angling🫡
I’d love to see a video where you guys break down the Expride line of rods and applications
I love how much you guys geek out over tackle.
One of the best videos I have ever seen! The entire series is top notch. Thanks
I just picked up a Daiwa Tatula SV TW and paired it with a Megabass Lavante Perfect Pitch. I love it.
I am slowly converting my rod line up to all 13 envy black and fate black. I think those rods for the money are amazing
Just me, I use a 10-12-15 wrap Albright line to leader knot, never had one fail, no glue. Casts like a dream on micro guides....... YMMV
Hey guys love the buyers guides. Have you ever done a buyers guide on two piece rods? Traveling in a car sometimes a two piece is necessary.
Daiwa Rebellion has a whole 2 piece line up in the $200 range for casting rods. It's hard finding 2 piece casting rods past the $100 price point unless you go JDM.
Fold down the seats lol
@@warlordop713 I have a prius and we're a family of four. Travel rods are a thing 💯
It was great to finally meet y'all at the classic , thanks again for the glide bait tip and for signing my hat 😊
I learned so much from watching your entire series.

Excellent, as every of your buyers guide! Thanks for entertaining us….
Great meeting you guys this morning!!! I can’t wait for more information about my blueback herring lakes! Thanks again for all you do and teach!!

Try a baby plugging, the WB baby brother. It is soooooooo nice!
@@ReelAZMatt Agree I own two.

I also throw weightless senkos with my JB special and its awesome. I don't have really heavy cover so it works great !
I can confirm on the NRX+. I did the same thing...then ordered 2 more. Because of you guys.
Good way to start the morning. Now it's time to go shopping for some rods and reels
I like your idea of heading up north for some baitcast smallie fishing! Come to MN for some smallie fishing on Mille Lacs Lake…I’d love to join you! 😊

Bang for the buck?? I like that idea!! You need to add this to the Black Friday buyers guide as well! Lol Great Job Fellas.
Buyers guide from shore please
Was thinking about the St.Croix legend glass, not crazy about that color but hearing good things about it...
Thanks guys one quick question. I'm headed up to Clearlake your old stopping grounds next week. It's gonna be rainy conditions what would you recommend I throw?

Awesome video my dudes! I'm in the middle of a rod and reel search and the past two videos have been absolutely perfect. Thank you!
These buyers guides are the best on the internet!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Fabulous video thanks very much
I splurged on a curado 150 MGL reel... couldn't be happier with it I wish I could afford a whole line up of them... be easy fellas✌

Dobyns Champion XP are a great line of rods too.
I bought a Piscifun serpent heavy fast rod. I love it. It’s very light and very strong
🙌🙌🙌 You guys rock !
Please do a MBR episode
Excellent breakdown, thanks guys!
Hey guys! How do you guys feel about the Zodias 6'10 M for a jerkbait rod? Would you guys recommend it over the standard Curado? Thanks
this is the kinda awesome video for anyone mate :)
Hi Matt & Tim! Great video! For a northern gal, do you think the Zodias swim bait rod could also work as a pike/musky setup with a Tranx 400?
How big of pike and musky? The 7’9 XH might be okay for the smaller baits. Where abouts are you located?
Awesome breakdown guys. Really enjoyed and much appreciated!
This is perfect. I just had all 6 of my rods/reels stolen 😢 Now i have a guide to go by for replacement.

Not Tim or Matt, but the iRod Genesis III 754F Magic Stick is an amazing frog and heavy jig rod.
What snaps do you change your chatter baits to when you are fishing heavy cover in Florida?
Tactical bassin I need the best bang for the buck rod under 300 bucks that can do about anything? Is the Expride 7’2 Medium Heavy a good option?

what do y'all think about the megabass levante braillist? saw it in a tackle shop in my area and you guys have always raved about the orochi

@@gregmanley1246 let’s say 200.00 max and below
@@gregmanley1246 Thank you. Appreciate the help greatly.
I love the buyers guide series never stop
Need to try out the Edge EfxPro BFS/DSR 🔥🔥🔥
Do you have recommendations in travel rods? Going on an international peacock bass fishing and wondering if I can do something other than than take an 8foot rod tube.
Comparing megabass levante vs Expride B series. Which is better?? Expride are more exspensive but is there justification for higher price or go with the megabass??
Was actually looking at the flat side special. Is it worth it to go up to the orochi? Going to use it for shallow cranks 98% of time
Love these videos! Do you think the 7’4” legend tournament could throw a small a rig like the flash mob jr?
Absolutely
Good timing. Just broke my Shimano clarus
Thanks!
Matt got me into the MBR action in gloomis
Really liked the vid of your 400 dollar combos buyers guide a few months ago that I picked up a curado mgl and I have noticed it feels sort of “tight” if you know what I mean it just doesn’t free spool at all even with spool tension and brakes almost completely off. Wondering if you have any idea what’s happening
