I recently went to a breaking benjamin concert and he sounds exactly the same from his studio songs when performing live. Yeah they clean up his voice in the studio but who doesn't?
Faith Jones it’s not that they clean up his voice it’s more of the environment a studio is usually a soundproof room where live he’s just singing in the open so it lets a lot of outside noise in as well as his voice
You can't fake tone, that's for sure. The best thing about the studio is you can do as many takes as you want to get the perfect one. You can use autotune to correct the last 1 or 2% of the pitch but if you overproduce it just sounds flat.
The fact is yes, studio can play with acoustics and maybe some pitch, but there is still (at least at this point!!!) only so much it can do, or you'd see all singers able to do things with their voices that blow people away! Ben has some really incredible abilities with his voice and actually I love that AI can't quite perfect vocal artifice yet.
God I so very much agree! The sound of auto-tune makes me quickly Tune Out! Lol Ben has such a pure quality to his voice stripped down! I wonder what the growling does to ones vocals over time??
@@solidsaturn0327 he DID smoke...as far as his latest info he doesnt anymore. The last major video with him smoking was that Moscow fan greet thing...that was in 2017.
As a 20 year plus fan he has changed. Due to age and illness. He isn't the same but I know he tried this last album. If you've ever seen him in concert he hardly sings anymore. I love this voice
That's too bad (about his concerts). But that has to be so hard on the voice! He's still a talented singer and songwriter, and if he can only handle saving his voice for recording albums, I'll take it!
Seems like Phobia onwards is pretty much the same, however you can hear little hints at his voice deteriorating from his screaming technique, albeit slowly
Phinal Flash Eh, there's WAY more factors than just diaphragm support when it comes to safe VS. Unsafe screams. In songs like I Will Not Bow you can hear how tensed up he is, which is pretty much the opposite of what you want.
pre-breaking benjamin- it’s great to begin with but it needed work ep- the base where it starts saturate- sounds a little more rough which was what he was going for wana: cleaner and more fine tuned saturate phobia: this is where it steps up but this is when he was at his worst of his lung infection dear agony: you can tell the sobriety in his voice, sings a lot cleaner, growls a lot better dark before dawn: his voice was kinda worn down a bit from earlier albums, Ember: and right back to where we were aurora: makes sense that it’s softer considering the album before
He has such a distinctive voice, with some incredible "modes" that he changes between effortlessly to being such life and feeling to his music. Most singers can do one, maybe two really well. He switches between them all effortlessly. It gives me chills. 1.) "Basic Ben"--no real embellishments (like in the bulk of "Dear Agony"). 2.) Gentle, especially lyrical and soothing (esp in the verses of "Ashes of Eden" or the word in "Failure": home). 3.) Growl (like in areas of "So Cold" refrain). 4.) Scratch (higher pitch, like in the ending part of "Ashes of Eden": ...NOTHING left BUT you; lower pitch, like 5. Deep, throaty, booming but clear (like in "Failure" or the acoustic verses of "Breath").
His voice currently has lost the heavyness he had from saturate, we are not alone and phobia to mid way dear agony. Now when he sings its all too " clean" and less distorted to give his voice that powerful effect like he had prior to dear agony when he performs live. He is still my favourite singer and musician no matter what though.
I prefer saturate, we are not alone and phobia better. i dont like how much he distorts his singing from dbd and ember, its sounds really light and not powerful. dear agony is ok
The changes of his voice is that his Saturate And We Are Not Alone had his mouth like stuffed with marshmallows while singing, Phobia and onward. His voice turned out light to even more lighter as he gets old.
Every piece of music you have heard in the last 2 decades uses auto tune. You cannot hear it on these recordings. It is subtle to ensure perfect pitch. You are hearing layered vocals and people that don't do what we do in the studio never get it...but yeah...I know [insert other singer here] is amazing and doesn't use auto tune...annnnnd bullshit. They do. They ALL do.
Man I don't know what it is but the albums that this band produced in 2001, 2002 and 2009 have this deep felling of Passion even from the cover pictures that seems to be missing now a day's for some reason.
Of course, a singer's voice will change over time, however this is really like comparing apples to oranges. While it's the same singer, the mics have likely changed and the recording techniques have also changed. My guess is that in the early recordings (demos), they were using more budget mics, compressors, eqs, effects, etc. But, as there was more financial backing, they switched to high end equipment, voice doubling, and having a professional producer who knew how to make Ben sound even more professional. Though, the final song has too much pitch correction on it in my opinion. It's a beautiful song that should have a more natural sounding voice and it's just way over processed.
Da igual el año en el que cante, para mí la voz de Benjamin es una de las mejores voces de la historia y la mejor voz del metal junto con la de David Draiman y Serj Tankian. 😃🤟
I love Breaking Benjamin I mean they are the best band out there for as I'm concerned. but this was about the worst example that you could have given for voice change. Lol but it's all good :)))) Breaking Benjamin forever Rock on !
Wow sering breaking benjamin starting from 1996 even tho music of today rocks and some of them sucks still there in no way they will surpass old rock music from year nineteens
his voice has always sounded not that good and yodel-like, and like he sings from the back of his throat tbh. he sings some things fine and well, but a lot of stuff sounds bad
Definitely hear the Nirvana influence in the earlier recordings, considering that’s Ben’s favorite bad.
I thought the same thing
you can hear the tool influence in phase
The song Lithium came to mind
@@realspartan5206 Absolutely yes 🤘
actually bush and tool are.
I recently went to a breaking benjamin concert and he sounds exactly the same from his studio songs when performing live. Yeah they clean up his voice in the studio but who doesn't?
It's standard from the producer. Basically the band has to respect that.
Faith Jones it’s not that they clean up his voice it’s more of the environment a studio is usually a soundproof room where live he’s just singing in the open so it lets a lot of outside noise in as well as his voice
Same him in 2016 and they were fucking insane. Star set also opened up for them before they actually blew up
You can't fake tone, that's for sure. The best thing about the studio is you can do as many takes as you want to get the perfect one. You can use autotune to correct the last 1 or 2% of the pitch but if you overproduce it just sounds flat.

Ages like fine wine
Yes he does. :)
They need to stop editing his voice in the recordings on their latest stuff. His voice is good enough without it
agreed
Mooseh Reviews but be honest the vocals now are fucking beautiful😩
Not to me. It becomes ruined by post production editing. The lyrics and songs themselves are good but its ruined by the editing
The edits are layered voices with Aaron and Keith singing.
God I so very much agree! The sound of auto-tune makes me quickly Tune Out! Lol Ben has such a pure quality to his voice stripped down! I wonder what the growling does to ones vocals over time??
*1950 sounds like something from 1950*
😅
Saturate is when he found his voice, imo. BB has been my favorite band for nearly my entire life
Wow
His voice is perfect in everything! it just gets better with time! 🤟❤️❤️❤️🙌
Right just like I sound different than when I was 11 I'm 12 now my voice has changed
Valerie Marie My thoughts exactly!
Changes in health and recording tech. He's had hell with his health.
I've heard him speak in rl & truly he doesnt need to change a thing. It is deep, intriguing & absolutely beautiful!
Wonder what old man Ben would sound like
Justin Booth lets hope that we’ll get to hear that some day
Justin Booth probably some type of smoker. He doesn’t smoke but a scratchy old voice.
Sophia E he does smoke
@@solidsaturn0327 he DID smoke...as far as his latest info he doesnt anymore. The last major video with him smoking was that Moscow fan greet thing...that was in 2017.
@@visionflightsim he vapes now
Have LOVED him for 13 years and counting.. My husbands name is Benjamin also LOL
Voices change but I've seen ben live talked to him it's all him it's called vocal growth ben is an amazing singer artist and man
Ben sounds pretty consistent to my ears.. But then you have Matt Bellamy lmao, compare Showbiz to The 2nd Law there's this huge tonal difference
It's not so much a changing voice as it is an advancement in digital voice editing. Cassette tape to HD Digital. Big difference!
Scott Crase that and a change of style
Scott Crase from Dear Agony on you can tell the producers went kinda crazy with the autotune.
Scott Crase agreed
Unknown Soldier No auto tune. Ben double layered his voice.
Unknown Soldier not really, they made him put tons of harmonies
As a 20 year plus fan he has changed. Due to age and illness. He isn't the same but I know he tried this last album. If you've ever seen him in concert he hardly sings anymore. I love this voice
I love his voice on Saturate, my favorite album by far
That's too bad (about his concerts). But that has to be so hard on the voice! He's still a talented singer and songwriter, and if he can only handle saving his voice for recording albums, I'll take it!
Seems like Phobia onwards is pretty much the same, however you can hear little hints at his voice deteriorating from his screaming technique, albeit slowly
Today he have back up vocals now, pretty much Aaron does all the growls for him.
Abeth not to mention his sickness
Possibly. Not sure if he uses his diaphragm or not when he screams. But I'd imagine that he does.
Phinal Flash Eh, there's WAY more factors than just diaphragm support when it comes to safe VS. Unsafe screams. In songs like I Will Not Bow you can hear how tensed up he is, which is pretty much the opposite of what you want.
His voice blows live! It's all auto tune that makes him sound good on the album's.
pre-breaking benjamin- it’s great to begin with but it needed work

It's his health. Notice he doesn't even play guitar as hard. So sad
his voice has always been so awesome. one of my favorite voices.

Goth Gator Goddess He had a tounge piercing on those albums.
Man his voice has grown.
From Dear Agony on HELLO AUTOTUNE. Still my favorite band and musician but damn they don't need to alter Ben's voice that much.
Unknown Soldier or Melodyne

You should’ve published this video a month later so you could add a song from their “Ember” album to this timeline. Great video though!
You gotta do an update video with his vocals from 2018 and 2020. That'd be cool.
The evolution of greatness!!
Where do I get Breaking Benjamin on cassette!?!?!?!?!

I hate how the new songs use so much auto tune
beautiful
My hero's.
Damn he sounded like rob Thomas in 1950
Last picture, he looks like Elon Musk's older brother lmao
Your missing ember, Ben's first bands cassette and a few others
The King this was made before Breaking Benjamin released Red Cold River & i couldn't find those others on RUclips
Plasma Storm ok that makes sense.
Plasma Storm well one album that isn't on here is called "Volume 2"
And if you type in "Breaking Benjamin early demos" you should find a few things.
I actually didn't know Breaking Benjamin released that Volume 2 album.
FUCK YEAH DIARY OF JANE
ahh yes you can hear them chasing the latest trends... just one step behind....
I wanna see them go the roots of their music
Nice.
