  • On a week with no shoots, I spent my time visiting local businesses to market my services as a freelancer and following up on leads from the networking event I attended last month.

Dude! You crushed this!!! Such good response from people!! 2 out of the 3 people you visited were interested in working with you! that is so good!!! really enjoyed seeing you put yourself out there, it’s encouraging for me!! And great idea donating a short doc to the animal shelter. You’re planting some really good seeds man, and it’ll be cool to see what grows from it! 🙌🏻

Thanks Tommy! I appreciate the encouragement. It was challenging and a little nerve wracking, but ultimately wound up being a cool experience!

Your at home lighting is creating flicker / strobeing in the background. Happens with cheaper fluorescent bulbs. You can up your shutter speed to deal with this issue. Has happed to me a lot . Regardless great video Andrew keep knocking on those doors and grinding it out. I hope to follow your path .

Thanks for watching!! It’s a never-ending journey, but I’m having a lot of fun with it.
The flicker is actually from a stage light that I use in my home office 😅 it does not play nice with the iPhone camera though. I typically would up the shutter angle on my Lumix, but since I film the vlogs on the iPhone, I don’t even bother.

Got ya I think as videographers we put to much emphasis on perfection rather then just pumping out content for ourselves so defiantly love what your doing.

You might want to cap the quantity of working days for that retainer. It could end up being 10 days of 2 hour blocks and obviously that is not worth your time. I would break it up into half days and full days. Bc if you do a 2 hour day it will still take up half your day if not all of it.
Your stipulations are very videographer centric when they should be client centric. I recommend keeping a half day/full day limit but adding more language about deliverables. They don’t understand how many hours to purchase bc that’s not what they deal with. They will be able to understand ‘5 videos’ much easier.
Congrats on the shelter relationship. That sounds promising!!

Much appreciated on the insight! My initial thought process was that documenting active job sites is fairly run & gun, so it wouldn't require much set up in the way that interviews would. So I could easily get in and out fairly quickly, even if the job is a bigger one. The other side of that coin is this particular client was essentially looking for someone who was "on-call" which I wanted to avoid, but still wanted to offer my time without giving an exact number of days. But I can see where you're coming from, and I much prefer your line of thinking! Just need to refine my process now.

Good stuff man! I run a retainer model and it was hard tapping down pricing at first. Also I’m just across the river right above Philly!

Thanks Dave! It’s definitely a challenge, and one I hope to figure out soon. And no way! Would love to connect some time.

Was the free pro-bono 5 minute documentary offered to the Non-profit after they agreed to purchase some paid work, or was it that you did the free doc first with the possibility of paid work in the future?

Great question, and probably should have clarified it better! I’m going to do the short doc as well as submit a proposal for other video services that they were looking for. But I wanted to do the doc as a proof of concept almost for my work.

It’s super generous of you to donate a doc to the animal shelter - a special service for a special cause for sure!!
But you know what would be even MORE special? If you adopted one of the dogs or cats… or both… or all of them. I bet your wife would support it. Just sayin…

LOL I am incredibly excited to start working with them! I'll definitely be sharing that journey as it happens. As for adoption, my wife will have to settle for the dog and the cat we have for now. Hopefully the documentary can help the ones that need homes find them!

What’s the book you mentioned from Tommy Beal?

    • @rivvidproductions
      @rivvidproductions  4 месяца назад +1

Not an actual book, lol. Tommy had posted a video on his channel about growing his business and going door-to-door with his camera trying to make connections. It inspired me to do the same thing!
