This dude made all of them sound so good that we would have no idea which one to get
All sound quite similar, but there are some clear differences between the three pickups (as well as between the two voicings on the Fluence pickups). But they are definitely close enough, where some minor tweaks to the amp's EQ and/or EQ tweaks in your DAW of choice can make any one of the pickups match the specific tone of any of the others.
Basically, if you already have any of these pickups in a guitar, and have been considering replacing them with any other of the pickups here, I wouldn't even bother. Just listen to the tonal differences in this demo, and adjust the EQ on your amp or in your DAW until they match. The best option would probably be to do all of the EQ in your DAW, save it as a preset, and just use that anytime you want to make your pickups sound like the ones in this video which sound the best to you.
If your 7-string guitar does not have any of the pickups in this demo, and one or more of the pickups demo'd here were on your list to replace what you currently have, just go with whatever is easiest to install. If your guitar has passive pickups, then go with the Nazgul (and the matching Sentient for the neck position). If your guitar has active pickups, then I would probably go with either the Fluence set (because of the two voicings which are switchable on the fly), or the EMG 707TW or 707TWX (because unlike the standard 707 and 707X, they can be coil-split for quasi-single-coil tones).
But before any of that, try the EQ adjustments first. As long as your existing pickups aren't complete and muddy crap, there is a good chance EQ tweaks will allow you to match (or at least come _very_ close to matching) the pickups that you were going to buy. And you'll have just saved yourself a couple hundred bucks.
Nice shootout! I preferred the voice 2 on the Fishman over the voice 1. The EMG sounded pretty similar to voice 1 on the Fishman to me. I think the Nazgul wins out for me, though. The mid-range bite sounded better and it had more fullness on those lower chords. Especially with the add9 chords.
Seymour Duncan it is. Nazgul cuts through the mids better than the others.
Nazgul-Sentient is my fave on all 7 seven strings.
Black Winters win, Nazgul nasally
I like the Nazgul, on the palm muted chunk they have such a big round low end. Right now I am playing stock Lithiums in my Kiesel VM7, Seymour doesn't make a slanted Nazgul, AFAIK. Current GAS is for a Merrow KM7 MK1 or MK2. Even though I like the look of the MK3 better, its stock with the Fishmans, the first two generations of KM7 have the Sentient / Nazgul set.
I got a gift of a Schecter JL-7, Jeff Loomis signature model. I normally am not very interested in signature instruments, but this guitar, from the final year he was with Schecter, was just so well made (particularly for a $1200 guitar), I couldn't put it down. Korean made, inspection and set up in America, and another guitar from Schecter that impresses. The fretwork is absolutely the best I've ever seen on an instrument under $5000, and it rivals the guitars I've had/played in that price range.
But the Jeff Loomis signature Seymour Duncan pickup set (once you get accustomed to them) are extraordinarily good. Crisp, and clean like a razor blade, yet still warm, with a ton of punch. Check them out!
This is what I'd call a comparison vid. Thanks from the future mate.
I prefer the clarity of Nazgul.
Thanks for this comparison. I hesitate between those 3 pickups. I prefer the first one, corrisponding to the sound that I am looking for. the nazgul sounds little bit more agressive than the EMG but they both sound nice.
I have an old peavey predator 7, I bought first a invader, then a X2N ... but still sucks ! Maybe because of the cheapest of the guitar. I miss gain a lot, and agressivity too.
You really help me bro !
love the nazgul seymours you slapped on the rhoads love that tone,,.
nice video currently watiing for my legator ghost which i think needs some new pickups and couldn't decide which way to go, fluence or duncans or even some deathbars. all pickups sound very good i must say, but for versatility i would go with the fluence
I prefer 707's they do something when you play the octave part.
Other than the one part, I noticed they all seem really similar, but 707 blends transitions from note to note the best of the three.
I use an Ibanez with 707's at bridge and saddle, 3-way selector and kill switch.
Awesome vid
Emg for days 🤘🏻
Nazgul sounded best on the open notes but for palm muting it's the emgs all the way. Tough choice.
wow, the Nazguls appear to be the best
Fishman voice 2 sounds like the Nazgul in my opinion
1 Fishman
2 SD
3 EMG
Dude, this video is amazing!!! well done. Nazgul all the way!!! I'm gonna upgrade my guitar with that one, eventually lml
Awesome comparison. I was just searching for this! Thank you! Do you think the Nazgul is the most focused or the tightest out of the speaker in the room?
Please do a Seymour Duncan coil-split vs Fishman voice switch.
If I get time to re-solder the V with the Nazgul/Sentient then I will. But I have way too many upgrades on my plate currently. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar In general, would you recommend a coil-split or a Fishman voice switch?
You can coil tap Fishman Fluences.... I did! Cheers - Ryan
What is that guitar? Looks beautiful
Have you tried the Seymour Duncan Alpha Omega set for 7string
Not as of yet. Cheers -Ryan
all good hahaahahh for me fishman but as i said you cant say one is bad. amazing pickups.
Fishman>Nazgul>EMG for me. Though I'd use any of them if I had to
Nazgul is too muddy, boomy and lacks clarity and cut compared tot he rest imo. Voice 2 on the fishman’s do the low tone better, with more upper mid cut and cleaner low end.
The EMGs have a more fuller range than the rest. Similar to the Fishman voice 1, but more cleaner, less shrill and more rounded out. It does have less dynamics and more of a “wall” type of sound
I would definitely go with the EMGs for a thrashier sound and the voice 2 Fishmans for a more beatdown metalcore type sound
Hard to tell the difference. My take is the nazgul stood out a bit more. But between the fishman and emg. It was hard to tell a significant difference. I would like to get your take on them. Is there a difference you here in your studio? And which felt best for your metal tone you went for in this demo? Thanks great video by the way. Your channel deserves more subscribers if you ask me.
Well... I like them all is the easiest answer! The Fluence Pickups I always forget about so I'm always very pleased when I play then. The EMG 707s I have in 2 SLAT7s so they always get used, and the Nazgul/Sentient I JUST installed. So Having that amount of selection for me is key! Cheers -Ryan
install 707 need mod to body ??
If your guitar is routed for Soapbar Pickups you'll be fine. If not then YES you will need to rout out the pickup cavities. Cheers -Ryan
Fishmans!
another pickups comparison using different guitars, for god sake unless you think a guitar construction and I mean woods used, bolt on, set ,or neck through, strings through and so many variables have nothing to do with how it sounds (which is heresy), this is pointless
I look forward to watching your Video with 3 different sets of pickups in the same guitar. I work a Full Time Job 70-80 hours a week and have a kid... I’m not about to solder, unsolder, and resolder 3 sets of pickups just because some idiot on the internet wants to invalidate my video. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar 💀💀💀
@@Crypticmaskguitar Also subbed, you made all of them sound great! I love 707s so I might be in the minority here! Cheers!
