    Naomi, thanks so much for this. I just got my first airbrush and compressor a few weeks ago, a cheap thing from a hardware store so I can find out if I like the concept and can deal with the processes of cleaning and brush care before investing in higher-quality hardware. So far, I've really been enjoying it, though (initially not knowing any better) I found out the hard way which of my existing Citadel paints my airbrush does not get along well with. Whoops! :P
    I know Citadel has air paints, but I was elated to find that Army Painter has a huge range of those, particularly for the metallic paints (I love their shiny effects but feared there'd be no way to safely get that into an airbrush without clogging it with metal flakes). A friend of mine who runs a game store pointed out that I could use thinner to make my existing paints airbrush-compatible, but I opted against having to do the conversions myself when Army Painter has already made those formulations from the ground up. I especially liked what you said toward the end of this video, where you talked about the consistency being even across the various paints-that was one thing I had to get used to with Citadel paints, and this may well be the case with the "regular" paints from other brands as well, where depending on what paint you buy, you're getting something in between "colored water" and "brush destroyer," particularly where metallic paints are concerned.
    A few days before I noticed you had a video about the Air Mega Set, I bought one of the little USD 40 airpaint starter sets that comes with ten colors + black + white + primer and have thought very highly of it so far, especially with the packaging (the one issue I had with this set, judging by the paints coming in the box all over the place). Also, Army Painter's organization of their colors into base-midtone-highlight "triads" is a really helpful training tool for me in knowing which colors are designed to complement one another in ascending layers, and I liked how you demonstrated that with the red demon whose underside you darkened and whose topside you lightened into an orange.
    Thanks so much for this great video. I'd been telling my other friends that I was looking to get more of the Army Painter air paints, and this has definitely helped sell them for me.

    Yeah, I agree that they need a bigger bottle choice. I mostly build bigger scale military vehicle's and aircraft and need to cover alot of surface. I go through dozens of these itty bitty bottles. Bigger bottles would probably bring down the price point and get more spray for the buck.

Really want them individually like you as I worry about running out of gemstone, glitter green and elven armour. I’d love to have enough I can get easily to do whole models.

    I can't wait to get my hands on the biggest set of the Air line of paint. It's a bit of money but I have 2 colors of Vallejo air in orcish skin greens. So easy and quick to paint with cause I don't have to thin them. Not that it takes all that long but it is convenient. I don't like the new environmentally friendly packing. I miss the plastic trays cause I use those boxes to haul my paints with me when I travel for work or go out of town for a few days.

    I definitely have problems with this paint straight from the bottle. I use an Eclipse with a 0.3 needle and if not thinned a little it clogs it up everytime. It does spray great once thinned but I've found it a little misleading that it can be sprayed straight from the bottle.

    • @swordnsteele712
      @swordnsteele712  Месяц назад

      Really? I still haven't found an issue with these paints for clogging at that nozzle size, and I also used an Eclipse. Perhaps a drop of Vallejo Flow Improver first before you add the paint will help

    • @angelohernandez6060
      @angelohernandez6060 Месяц назад +1

      @@swordnsteele712
      Yep, that is exactly what I do to keep it from clogging, but I put a few more drops just to make sure. But still not "Straight from the bottle" as advertised. They need to stop putting that in ads and packaging and telling customers this. Maybe it has something do with the humidity or other issues but if it doesn't work everywhere for everyone and just for those in "perfect" conditions then it's misleading. Don't get me wrong, it's great paint once you get it thinned. Plus with Vallejo's Covid meltdown and lower production since, this is the next best affordable paint. I work at a distributor for hobby retail stores and during Covid Vallejo totally shutdown. Before Covid we'd get in about 4 to 5 pallets of their products every few months. Now, we're lucky to get 1 and a half pallets every 6 months or so. So I am glad for Army Painters availability, but they need to be honest to the customers.

    • @swordnsteele712
      @swordnsteele712  2 года назад +1

      They can be used with a drybrush, though they are sliiightly duller that way. However, after you have drybrushed it on, you can thin a final layer down and gently layer over your drybrush work to bring that shine back. A little gloss over it should do something similarly, but the former is what I would do :)

      Your airbrush should be happy with these just as they are :) Some lower end airbrushes have trouble no matter what but as long as you make sure you don't let your paint sit in the bowl a long time, clean after or during sessions depending on how much paint you're moving through it, you should be okay :)

    I hate these paints, some of the paints create nothing but problems in the airbrush. Clogs up way to fast. Ive tried all kinds of "thinners and flow improver). I stir the paint manually with a toothstick and put the bottle in my paint shaker for 20sec, and place the bottle in different direction in the shaker. Ive had most problems with some of the fluor paints. The paints also sits like a water decal. it can harden for months and the paint still seems to be a bit soft/flimsy. ive used 0.2 and 0.3 aribrushes, brand new ones(creos 289) Ive also experimented with the room temperature, and air pressure. I bought the full complete air set. Because of good reviews. But do NOT make the same mistake as me. For a modelkit builder this paint is a complete disaster. I love their colors but it doesent work as it should. And with the paints being pre-thinned you can forget about using the paints that didnt flow well thru the airbrush , with a paintbrush as the paints are then too thin again. I think you gotta test more bottles or come with an updated review, cause you have been lucky with the ones you tested. Also the inconsistency between the bottles is not fun, it makes it hard as you gotta experiment with every new bottle you use. It was an expensive lesson learnt for me. But i will never buy army painter again
