I try to remember every time I go home - unfortunately, we only have an extended visit a few times each year. Too bad, especially since she is such a prolific knitter!
I went to Briggs and Little Mill 1986. love seeing your Mother!! How awesome to have a mom who knits too!You are scared from the pain. I am much older and will never get anymore piercings . Love all the knits.
Seriously, you both are adorable. You should visit with your mom more often and record a show multiple times a year. 🎉 On a knitting note, when you both said you pull the straw out of the yarn while knitting, I’m sitting here saying ‘wait what? We’re supposed to pull those out?’ 😂
Ha! I actually used to collect all the straw from Briggs & Little in a small container when I was in graduate school - I enjoyed seeing it build up! (Weird, I know.) Thanks so much for joining us!
I know that your mom likes Tuku. I do also. I suggest that she tries Sonder Yarn “Sunday Morning Dk or 4-ply”. The colourways are heathered refined colours and it’s soft but with a bit of tooth. Best of both worlds. If she likes red , I recommend “Afterglow”, if green then “Staycation”. Stunning yarn. I am embarrassed to tell you how much I have in stash. ~ (Afriendlyknitter)
I know, we definitely sound the same. She just sounds a little bit more Canadian! Thanks for joining. We'll see if we can get Ian to cooperate someday.
Yay, an episode with Lisa and Hobbes! I love the knitting banter (and all the woolly goodness!). We have a Border Terrier and he is similarly motivated by ham and disinclined to wear knitwear. Once we tried to protect his paws from the salt in NYC with booties and he lifted one foot up, then another, then tried to lift a third and just fell over and lay there like a dead possum until we took them off. Congrats on getting so many of those single socks paired up!
That is SO funny! Hobbes doesn't mind the booties. I assume he understands that salty paws are worse (he hates this so much), but since dogs don't have object permanence, I don't actually know if this is true. Maybe he just can't be bothered to care anymore.
Your mom is a delight! I’m sure many people have told you how much she looks like Jamie Lee Curtis. I love all of the sweaters, you are both such talented knitters.
She gets this a lot! Once we were on vacation in Ontario at a shop, and the young woman working there approached very cautiously and then was visibly relieved when it wasn't an actual celebrity.
Have Ian on to review the yarns and the patterns of the things you have made him. What he likes about the feel and function of each component of the knits youve made him. So we have a wearer's idea of how functional and comfortable different yarns and patterns are to people who arent steeped in knitting.
Hello Ladies. Happy New Year. My local yarn store, Fiber Space in Old Town Alexandria Va. Has carried De rerum natura Gilliatt as wall as ulysse, cyrano and antigone for several years. Fibre Space is a wonderful yarn shop, not too long of a drive from Baltimore.
I love watching you and your mom! I’m still struggling with the state of the country and just want to be with my people and your videos help me. I’m planning on casting on 3 new projects today now. You lift my spirits. Thank you.
What an enjoyable podcast with you two!!! Your Mom is so knowledgeable about yarn and content, see where you got your talent from, you two compliment each other!!! Happy 2025 🎉🍾
I endorse the pencil. I can erase and use the pattern again for a different size without so much confusion. I'm in Santa Cruz and make almost only sweaters, so after a year or two I switched to fingering only... so many nice patterns I can't knit. Happy 2025!
Gilliatt is very very similar to Mota, in feel, construction, grist, roundness, etc. but I think their colour range is a little more extensive which is nice.
Wow lots of knitting from you ladies! Such a great podcast. I missed the name of your sweater that you knitted from the yarn from Espace Tricot. Could you please tell me? I am in southern Ontario and have visited the Espace Tricot shop in Montreal Quebec. Such great customer service. Were you aware that one of the former owners Melissa now produces lovely yarn (& some new pattern) through her company Sonder Yarns?
The pullover with large stripes is called Blue House and the cardigan is called Centre-Ville. Thanks so much for watching! I have heard of Sonder Yarns - would love to try it sometime. She is an amazing dyer.
Yeah - a mom visit!!! I agree - you and your mom should do more episodes together. A definite treat!
I try to remember every time I go home - unfortunately, we only have an extended visit a few times each year. Too bad, especially since she is such a prolific knitter!

I bet the mill was so wonderful! I would love to go someday.
First time watching your podcast. How blessed are you to share such a fine hobby! Your workmanship and color sense is fabulous!
Thank you so much! We are definitely lucky.

Love when you and your mom are together. Happy knitting 💚🧶🩷
Thank you so much! We enjoy it too.
I love your podcasts with your Mum. So relaxing the way the two of you interact. Enjoy your break at home. ❤❤
Thanks for watching! I Had such a nice time.
Emma! Talk with Hobbs’ vet. We were told never to feed our dogs pork. Otherwise, it was fun to see your mom again.

Yes, just keep talking 😂 love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
La Mercerie on Bainbridge Island sells Gilliat and usually has a decent selection ❤️ They’re shipping is also pretty fast!
Great intel! Thank you so much.
Would love to meet Ian-if I’m knitting and basically listening to you and your mom I can’t differentiate between you both 😅🧶🫶

A nice treat to see your video today. Lovely mom with an equally lovely daughter!
Thanks so much! She is the best.
Great catch up with guests!
Thanks for tuning in!
Love watching you and your mom talk yarn! I would love the link to your episode where you discuss converting pullovers to cardigans with a steek.
Here you go! I completely forgot to add it to the show notes: ruclips.net/video/KQoMltf9VsE/видео.html&ab_channel=BarnabyKnits

That is a great idea! If we can get him in front of the camera, I'll do that. (A VERY big 'if.')

I have been there too! Good to know they have DRN yarns.
Hi.
The yarn, de rerum natura Gilliatt, can be purchased in the USA from a really great yarn shop, Fibre Space in Old Town Alexandria, VA.
I’d like more info about the Briggs & Little Cardigan that is steeked. I love the yarn and have knit with it for years.
I love watching you and your mom! I’m still struggling with the state of the country and just want to be with my people and your videos help me. I’m planning on casting on 3 new projects today now. You lift my spirits. Thank you.
I am so glad to hear this! We also feel this way. Keep knitting.
Love your pressed flowers cardigan. Those colors are beautiful! Great job on your spinning! Your yarn looks great !
Thank you so much! I am really having a great time with the knitting.

She is definitely a great knitter! I am so lucky.
What a treat to see your video up this morning!
Great podcast! I love watching you and your mom. Happy New Year to both of you!
Thanks so much! We had a great time.
Happy New Year really enjoyed watching made me smile a lot
Thanks for spending some time with us! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
Great to see you chatting with your Mum. So glad Hobbs make an appearance too. Happy New Year, Emma. I will have to look at Peak District Yarns. 🇬🇧
Happy new year to you, too! I hope you enjoy PDY.

Oh boy, yes! It would be too warm to have thicker sweaters where you live.
Shop LaMercerie also carries Dererum Natura. They’re in Washington.
Very good intel! I will compile a list for my mom.
@@barnabyknits I am very to know this! 😀

This is super helpful to know! Thanks for the tip.

There is a dog sweater that does not cover the underbelly. Can't remember name, customizable and not difficult. Ravelry
Great news! I actually did knit one from PurlSoho for a tiny little terrier and he actually likes it!
