OMG, Thank you! My husband was an amazing heating engineer, but he died 3 years ago and I find myself in tears when I have issues like this. But I followed your instructions, and although I certainly couldn’t of done anything technical, I got it sorted but lifting the trv pin up. Thank you so much!!!
Straight to the point! You didn’t spend ages talking about the reasons why it could be. Went straight it in to the possible fixes. After spending a minute or so on why someone is searching. Perfect! And thank you so much.
I've never commented on a RUclips video before, but this video was so helpful. I'm an absolute DIY novice but I felt like a total pro being able to take apart and fix one of our radiators that wouldn't heat. Thanks for saving me a call to the plumber!
Much appreciation Plumberparts! Due to Covid my wife had to work from from home. But the radiator was not working in her room. After lots of complaints, I followed your advice. I had a problem with the TRV pin, and thanks to your tip of gently knocking the side, the pin opened up! I now have a radiator that works, and a happy wife!
Legend! I was regretting not watching my dad do this, when I was a kid and he was still here. I really appreciate your help mate. My daughter's bedroom rad is now working perfectly. I'll make sure I teach her for when she needs to know. Many thanks, Liam
Thanks a million for posting this all of 9 years ago! I was looking at guides to try and troubleshoot my cold radiator and NONE of them mentioned a TRV. Anyway, followed your guide and I have a hot radiator. Many thanks!
Can't thank you enough. Superb clear instructive video. Flow and return pipes both cold on one radiator - followed your instructions - opened up lock-shield valve fully - nothing! Still cold. I then turned my attention to the TRV (Siemens) and removed it. The 'pin' (bit sticking up) wouldn't move at all, wasn't sure how far it was supposed to be sticking up. Sprayed some WD40 on it and left it whilst I went to have another look at your video in case I wasn't doing it right. A few minutes later when I returned to the rad - Whoopee!! It was already hot, and the pin was noticeably sticking up further, and I was able to push it down and see that it was free. So thank you so much - you're an absolute star!! .....I have subscribed to your site so that I can return if I need any info another time.
Oh wow, watched this today & "fixed" the radiator today while my hubby was at work. When he came home he was totally amazed & wanted to know what Id done... Sorry to tell you Ive not admitted where I got the info from & loving the credit Im getting - I'll leave it till tomorrow & confess it was from this fab website. Thanks. ;-)
Our bedroom rad hasn't worked for a year. Took off the TRV, wiggled the thin pin and it popped up a touch. Pressed it down a few times, making sure it was loose. Put the heating on and the rad came warm!! All thanks to you - much appreciated!
Thank you for posting this. It has just solved my own issue of one radiator not working. Now its toasty hot. You guys don't need to use your own time doing these videos but I just want to say how much people appreciate and value them. My bedroom is now warm!
Thanks, our radiator issue was solved by the lockshield tip. After having tried everything else 2 years ago, we completely failed to think of messing with the lockshield and have used an electric radiator over winter in that room since then. I followed the instructions to open up the lockshield, and hey presto, a hot radiator :D :D :D
just fixed my bedroom radiator after watching this its only took me 5 mins the valve was half open! had the builders back 5 times said there was nothing wrong with. One very happy lady
Brilliant, thank you so much! My 1 year old’s room was the only radiator that wasn’t working, now it does thanks to following your advice. My issue was the stuck down pin in the valve. Thanks again!!
Thankyou so much for this video. I am in southern France but my system on the TRV side of the radiators is the same as in your video, and your video helped me diagnose and then solve the problem with two radiators which were not working. I removed the TRV head on each radiator and got the two stuck pins moving, and then the heat started flowing into the pipes straight away 🙂
Brilliant video, thanks! We've just fixed a sticking valve pin on a Danfoss TRV - exactly as you described. Saved ourselves the callout fee and all the aggro of getting a plumber out (we live in the country and these things take time . . .). Have just watched the balancing video as well and - for the first time - actually begin to understand how the system works! Highly recommended!!

This fixed my radiator that hasn’t worked for years. Unscrewed the heat number setting thing, pulled up the pin (which was stuck) with pliers and straight away I could feel the hot water coming through. Amazing. Thanks so much.
Mr Plumber Parts you are a LEGEND. Well done - you fixed my radiator in minutes and you didn't even have to lift a finger. And you saved me a plumber call-out OR freezing my tootsies off some more. Muchos gracias señor 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I went through all the processes in this vid and for me it was the trv. I carefully pulled the pin up a bit and instantly the radiator in my bedroom started to get hot after two years of not working and being cold. Its December and I'm able to sit around in my pants..Thanks man 👏😄
Thankyou so much for posting this. Woman with no clue & just managed to get radiator working in returning sons room on this freezing night. Would never have thought to unscrew temp thing & pull up pin with long nose pliers, but that worked a treat! You've saved me a call out fee. V grateful ☺
Thank you for being one of those caring proffessionals that shares logical and well explained layman terms knowledge, I had one radiator stop working and British gas took it off clean it out (which I had already done having read on another video sludge could be a problem) and there was nothing coming out when he did it (obviously as I had already done it and told him), he put sludge buster in my water tank and basically gave up but said boiler was all good and other radiators and said maybe need floorboards ripping up to find problem 😲and that was that. I have lived with that issue for years until another radiator went cold then a a couple months later another one until today all but first and last had stopped working - having seen your video I carefully took off the regulator valve on each radiator and notice because i was in a hard water area the pins had locked down - i took your advice and gently wiggled them and cleaned them and immediately heard the rush sound and they heated up - everything fixed thanks to you and in 2022 with the fuels hikes and everything expensive and being unemployed this has save me an immense headache and stress! May you have great and happy times ahead for passing on good knowledge.
Awesome! I live in a rented house, and this video has saved me the effort of having to get the letting agency to do something about it. I kind of knew it must be something simple and Google brought me here. The radiator in my office was stone cold, but full of water. Gently pulling on the pin in the TRV made the radiator instantly heat up, and now everything is nice and hot the pin moves around freely again. The hardest part was getting the TRV head off, it's secured with clips and a metal C ring and some old paint, and a bit of rust and clearly hasn't been removed in 20 years.
Your first suggestion was indeed correct in my case. Dismantled the radiator for works and closed the return valve. After some time when the works were done, I forgot I turned it off. I’ve lost some time over this but probably I’ll never forget that now. Thank you very much!
Legend! I checked the flow valve and bled one radiator in our house that wasn’t working. After watching this video I checked the TRV and “wiggled” the pin and hey presto the rad is working! Thanks a million 👍👍👍

OMG Thank you so much for this really clear and precise video. I had 1 bedroom radiator that just would not come on while all the others in the house were lovely and hot. Thank you!! I’ve just managed to fix my radiator- it was a stuck TRV pin! I’m so happy 😂 thanks so much for sharing content like this, you’ve saved me lots of time, hassle and money because I was going to call someone out to fix it.
For those who are not plumbers, don't forget if you start adjusting your lockshield valve it will need balancing again afterwards to get the correct flow through your radiator, or else you can cause further problems elsewhere in your system, as well as with that first problem rad.
We just bought our first home (old house) a month ago, turned the heating on and one room was cold when all others were piping hot. So was just about to call plumbing and spend our little savings left to fix this when I stumbled on your video, the stuck pin has fixed it for us. Thanks a million for your video, it has saved us some money we can now keep as an emergency while we find our what else needs fixing in our home
Great video thanks. Radiator hasn't been working for two years. Saw this video, tried what was instructed - and it was the pin on a Danfoss which was stuck. Fixed it in under 5 minutes. Job done! Thanks again.

What causes radiators to be noisy. I have the old side on Thermostatic valves. At 2 it is quiet and the radiator is barely warm. At 3 it's boiling and you can hear the water rushing through or/and the radiator is noisy.. This radiator is upstairs.
Can't thank you enough!!! Rad has been freezing for ages, never knew what it was. Bled it a few times and it made no difference. Saw this video and checked the TRV. The little pin seemed fine, so I first thought that wasn't the problem. Gave it a little wiggle anyway. The rad started getting warm instantly, and was nice and hot before I could even screw the TRV back on! I'm gonna be nice and warm when I go for a poo now, all thanks to you! Cheers!!!
Hi I just wanted to say a huge thank you from myself, daughter Beth and her partner Nelly you have solved our problem tonight and we are so grateful for your advice! Thank you again
Just moved into a house in Melbourne that had one radiator not working. This video was brilliant... I fixed it! It's very empowering for people like me who have no idea how to sort stuff like this out, to be able to fix things. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing your expertise. This video maybe 10 years old but still gave me all the information I needed. The pin was stuck down. My radiator is now working perfectly.
Legend!! I’ve had a radiator in the kitchen not working since I moved in, watched your video and found my trv pin stuck, wiggled it with pliers and bingo! Heat straight away! Thanks bud, appreciate your help!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Brilliant advice. I had three rads upstairs not working and assumed it was an airlock. Following your advice I found the pins jammed closed on all three rads and was able to free up following your advice. All working fine now. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much! We’ve lived in our house for over a year. And haven’t had the radiator downstairs working! This helped right away. You’re great! Thanks again
Legend, buddy, super clear with simple instructions. I managed to sort out my home office radiator, driving me crazy as I have just changed all TRVs to Tado Smart Thermos, so you can imagine. Thank you once again. Hope you don't get tired of reading them comments!
I’ve been living with a dead radiator for over 18 months. Finally had enough and was about to rip it off the wall to flush it and replace both valves…. Until I saw this video. Truly the hero we need.
Just moved into a new house with one faulty radiator, it was minus 5 degrees last night and the house wasn't heating up because of this one cold rad. Thanks to this, the radiator is fixed and my cat is enjoying himself in front of the heat. Thank you so much
Thank you for your advice. Followed your simple instructions and fixed the one radiator which was not working. The trv was down. With some tweaking the radiator is working as normal. Thank you again.
THANK YOU !! So easy to fix. Was the pin underneath the heat valve that was stopping my daughter’s radiator from heating up. So easy once you know how. Thanks for sharing your knowledge xx
I wish to say a very big thank you for your video. You have saved me the cost of getting a plumber in to fix a very cold radiator. Your very clear instructions I managed to fix it myself and I am just about to reach my 83rd birthday so if I have anymore problems I will definitely come to you first in future. Many many thanks.

Thank you so much for doing this video, I was losing the rag trying to work out how to fix my radiator and in 10 seconds after watching this I had it sorted. Absolute legend.
Thanks so much for the extremely helpful video. Mine was the pin problem and as soon as I managed to adjust it the radiator worked. Very grateful to you 😁👏
I was just about to take my radiator off to flush it and I thought I'd watch one more video to see if anyone says to try anything different. The lock shield thing fixed it haha! No idea why that was closed because the radiator was working perfectly fine before it stopped getting hot. Anyway, you've saved me loads of time! Cheers mate
@@hanzlahnisar1373 I did, and the radiator heated up straight away. But I discovered after that this might be messing with the balancing of the radiators so that's something else I will need to look into
@@hanzlahnisar1373 As far as I understand it, it's worth doing the same on another radiator (turning until fully open) but counting the amount of turns. 1) so you can put it back to where it was, but 2) so you can also do the same to the radiator that wasn't working in terms of putting it where it "should" be. That being said, I haven't done it yet and everything is working fine so I'm not sure if I'm overthinking it haha. Sorry if that's not much help. Maybe there's a plumber out there who can confirm :)
Had a new boiler installed yesterday/today. Kitchen radiator wasn't working. Quick google and you got it sorted for me with the Lock Shield Valve. Many thanks @Plumberparts
Well, this was easily the best made video tutorial, easily explained, no extra bs, and as a pharmacist and more into tech rather than these things, I'm super happy that I didn't have to call for a specialist. Keep up the good work!
THANK YOU!!! Followed along with the video- wriggled the pin with long nose pliers - hot radiator- magic! Thank you thank you Thank you- saved me a plumber call out!
Thanks very much! I had a dead radiator and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I watched this video and found that the pin in the TRV was stuck down. I followed your instructions and gave it a gentle wiggle with pliers and it worked 😀. Thank you very much.
THANK YOU very much indeed. I had several radiators not working since a "plumber" came to replace the mid-position valve. Didn't want to fork out £00's again so left them not working until now. Just found out that all those radiators had the lock shield turned to closed, so no water flow. Why would he need to do that? On the last one I also had a jammed pin in the TRV which, thanks to this video I fixed myself in 5 minutes. Great videos and a really money saver.
Just sorted out a wonky radiator in the main bedroom. I tried everything you said, and it turned out the TRV was stuck down exactly as you showed. It’s all fixed, and for the price of a bleed key! Thanks so much for offering help like this.
Top man! I found the pin under the TRV was stuck in. Slight wiggle with some pliers and up it popped. Amazing how something so small could cause an issue like a whole rad going stone cold....saved me some money at any rate. God bless you.
This video got my radiator working. After some dimwit from the council removed it and didn't come back. Never done this before but I didn't realise it had a lockshield. Apart from that , everything else was bled and open and flowing. Much appreciated for this video.
Nice. Didn't think the lock shield part would be the prob but decided to check because of your bid and turns out it was fitted and turned down about 70 to 80 % from full rather than regulated by the thermostat is valve. rad now fine. Cheers.
just wanted to thankyou for this video. I just moved my 2 year old into his own bedroom. spent 2 hours dismantling and assembling his cot bed and moving it into this other room only to realise that the radiator wasn't working and it was freezing in there. I decided to watch your video and amazingly the TRV valve was stuck and I managed to fix it all by myself I was so proud of myself and be my boy can have a cosy night in his new room thanks so much 😁😉😉

No worries dude/Dudette! Glad to help!
Thanks i resolved my problem after 2 years! of wondering
Thank you!! I’ve just managed to fix my radiator- it was a stuck TRV pin! I’m so happy 😂 thanks so much for sharing content like this, you’ve saved me lots of time, hassle and money because I was going to call someone out to fix it.
I have been trying to fix this for the past few months. The radiator in my study won't work. Thank you so very much you made a girl soo happy.,!!
For those who are not plumbers, don't forget if you start adjusting your lockshield valve it will need balancing again afterwards to get the correct flow through your radiator, or else you can cause further problems elsewhere in your system, as well as with that first problem rad.
thanks mate, invaluable info on rads everyone should know

or 2020!

Turn the pump speed down by the boiler.
Thank you.
One of the best videos about radiators I've ever seen. Pulled the pin up and now its working.
I followed your instructions and got my one cold radiator to work. Horay!!!!! Thank you so much for your easy video 😁
I fixed it!!! I am right now sitting next to a lovely warm radiator for the first time all winter! THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you so much! We’ve lived in our house for over a year. And haven’t had the radiator downstairs working! This helped right away. You’re great! Thanks again
Thanks
I went an entire Winter without heat, but you've made the tail end of this Spring livable. Thank you.
Fantastic, just got my one non working radiator working again. Very good and clear instructions. Thank you.
Legend, buddy, super clear with simple instructions. I managed to sort out my home office radiator, driving me crazy as I have just changed all TRVs to Tado Smart Thermos, so you can imagine. Thank you once again. Hope you don't get tired of reading them comments!
Best explanation on YT advice which fixed a cold rad problem easily! Much Brownie points earned in my favour....makes me feel like a real Geezer!
I’ve been living with a dead radiator for over 18 months. Finally had enough and was about to rip it off the wall to flush it and replace both valves…. Until I saw this video. Truly the hero we need.
PLEASURE TO BE OF SERVICE DEAR HUMAN! 😂
thanks to this guy i just fixed my radiator ,it was cold in that room since last year, cheers mate.
Fixed my own radiator after watching your video.. Just gently moved the pin with a spanner and wow!! HEAT!! Thank you!
Top stuff Jenna...you could be a plumber!

Thank you so much for doing this video, I was losing the rag trying to work out how to fix my radiator and in 10 seconds after watching this I had it sorted. Absolute legend.
You're welcome!
Thanks so much for the extremely helpful video. Mine was the pin problem and as soon as I managed to adjust it the radiator worked. Very grateful to you 😁👏
Thank you so so so very much! You got one of my radiators working.
Got quoted £75 just to come and and diagnose only. ...Saved me £££
I was just about to take my radiator off to flush it and I thought I'd watch one more video to see if anyone says to try anything different. The lock shield thing fixed it haha! No idea why that was closed because the radiator was working perfectly fine before it stopped getting hot. Anyway, you've saved me loads of time! Cheers mate
Did you turn anti clockwise fully and leave it there?
@@hanzlahnisar1373 I did, and the radiator heated up straight away. But I discovered after that this might be messing with the balancing of the radiators so that's something else I will need to look into
@@ronnieking2753 ah bugger what sorts the balancing then?
@@hanzlahnisar1373 As far as I understand it, it's worth doing the same on another radiator (turning until fully open) but counting the amount of turns. 1) so you can put it back to where it was, but 2) so you can also do the same to the radiator that wasn't working in terms of putting it where it "should" be. That being said, I haven't done it yet and everything is working fine so I'm not sure if I'm overthinking it haha. Sorry if that's not much help. Maybe there's a plumber out there who can confirm :)
@@ronnieking2753 appreciate the reply.
Thank you so much. This Video helped me fix one radiator that was not working, while rest are fine. Save me time and money.
You sir are an absolute diamond. Most people would charge for this but you just helped my little girl stay lovley and warm. Thank you
Thanks
Thanks very much Dave!
I decided to watch your video and amazingly the TRV valve was stuck and I managed to fix it all by myself I was so proud of myself and be my boy can have a cosy night in his new room thanks so much 😁😉😉
No worries Katy! So glad to help you out!

Great vid - the control pin was jammed and after loosening and putting everything back together, the radiator is working great. Thanks mate!!
Just sorted out two radiators. Both pins were slightly stuck. Followed your guide and both started working perfectly - thank you.
Brilliant thank you. I knew about the bleeding of the Rads, but what I wasn't aware of was the TRV. As it was that, that was jammed. Followed your instructions to free it up and now works a treat. Thanks guys, heating once again.....Minus the huge cost!!!
