I've got the Zoom B3 (slightly older model than this). I gig with it all the time and I've ditched my other pedals. At a gig all you need to do is set up your amp, plug in the pedal, plug your bass into your pedal and you're ready to go. The B3 only allows 3 pedals to run simultaneously but some of the presets have 2 sounds combined. What I really like is the built-in tuner, especially as if you press and hold the tuner is activated and the amp is muted, great for between sets as I usually check the tuning at the start of the set and then unmute and I'm ready to go.
Thanks for the most instructional video I've seen on RUclips. I first came across your channel for the "How to sound like.." videos and loved your style. I'm a newbie bass player and have been wading through the sea of pedal and DI reviews and was pleased to see this video on your channel. What I wasn't expecting was to learn how much you were able to achieve with just using your onboard tone control, picking/plucking and hand position on the bass and how this enabled you to cover a wide range of music genres so effortlessly. Inspirational. And a great insight into using the B1 Four. For someone like me just starting out, it looks like it the perfect tool and it means I don't need to spend almost as much on a higher end pedal as my bass cost
Very appreciated. The layout, order, and fxs you used sounded very appropriate for when and where you used them. Navigating the zoom's can be more involved than desired. B3n owner here, not as experienced as you, so, this really opened my eyes/ears to what the practical application of these multi effects pedals/processors can do. That play list was such a trip down memory lane... new sub liking this content!
Thanks so much! I feel like this is the kind of pedal that rewards you for digging in. Once I had this patch set up, I had to do very minimal tweaking once I got to the show.
@@ampthebassplayer ,I gathered that from the video. I was actually very impressed with how you sounded in the mix. Headphones allow me to hear things I miss without them. It looked like that show was a blast! Sounded to me like you were kinda keeping the guitar player in line, lol.

I recently bought the B1x4 and I was looking for patches and it led me to your video and I've got to say it's a great video! Thank you very much. You've got yourself a new subscriber! I can't wait for new videos on this particular Zoom.
That red P-Bass is looking sharp! Zoom gear is some unique stuff. They have some really fun to use boutique-like strange effects which no one else include in their processors . Good demo.
Zoom fan here. Used to gig my B1-Four in a similar way, as 5 separate effects. A little clunky if I wanted to turn an effect on and off during a song, but really, what mattered most was how it sounded, which was fine.
Yeah, that’s always the trade off. It’s not as elegant and easy to use as individual pedals, but it is a lot smaller and lighter than a full pedalboard. For gigs where I only need an effect or two, the Zoom does just fine.
zoom b1 aside, this is a great, down-to-earth showcase of the different subtleties of bass playing in different styles and genres. a fantastic learning resource for beginner bassists.
Anyone who doesn't know Brass In Pocket and Don't Get Me Wrong needs to turn in their music application card Awesome video btw I may invest in one of these
Not sure if your still reading comments after 2 yrs. just bought this B1four zoom, for the life of me I can"t seem to figure this out, so hopefully this will help . Thank you sir!
Nice to see someone else who runs a Zoom B1x4 into a Rumble 500! :) I found that the B1x4 comes preloaded with a lot of very usable patches right out of the box. I also have the Zoom B3 and Line6 Bass Pod. They were mostly preloaded with exaggerated sample patches to illustrate the capabilities - I had to design my own patches with both of the latter to get something usable on stage. Instead of using the up/down pedals in edit mode - I like to sandwich my base patch (compressor, amp, cabinet) between a copy with a Flanger and a copy with an overdrive (or whatever "special effects" I might need). This way, you can easily use the Flanger by selecting the adjacent patch. You could even use the expression pedal (with it linked to the drive control of the overdrive patch) and the you'd only need 2 patches.
I really appreciate this video! I have the G1X4 for guitar and just ordered the B1X4 for bass. I'm trying to learn bass and using different effects makes learning that much more enjoyable! Thank you. I've subscribed to your channel!
You’ve inspired me to copy your gear 🤪. I already had a rumble 100 to go with my Fender Jazz Bass and that’s how I found your channel. After watching all of these videos about the zoom1x4, I had to try one for myself. It came two days ago and I used it in rehearsal last Friday. I’m going to be using it for a live gig for the first time this Friday. So far it’s really fun. Oh, I also bought a stand like yours. Thanks for the awesome videos. I’m subscribed and ready for more content!
Cream, hail yeah! I have a "phobia" of people forgetting about them, LOL! "Fresh Cream" has a hell of a sound, especially. I'm guessing whatever studio that was recorded in must have been MADE of tubes, it sounds like it, lol
Great vid. Those 70s tones reminded me of my rock band days back in the 70s\80s, I played my 4001 into an Ampeg V4 head with 2 V4 cabinets, and 4 SVT cabs. That was 4 folded 15s and 32 10s. Those were the days...
Nice video. I have one thought - why not create a separate patches? Each dedicated to a certain song, then place them in order of the song list and then during the gig you would only have to press one stomp button (next patch) between songs. Wouldn't that be easier and more convenient for live gig?
Great video and so you’ve got a new sub! Loved the way you showed the live clips and described your playing and tone settings for each song. Loved your enthusiasm and attitude, the video was a real pleasure to watch! 😄
Very cool seeing the Zoom demo’d buddy txs huge for putting this up for us. I have the B3 and own Fender P and J.. B3 is great but almost too much bling for straight rock covers I play. Cheers man
Found this video really helpful as I've be trying to better understand how to improve, effect, and utilize my bass tone, and am strongly considering grabbing a BIX Four. I am a bit confused about your disco show. Not many of these tracks are disco. 😅 Anyway, subscribed.
Correct. All fast downstrokes do sound different, especially when you can’t keep the tempo steady. Seriously, if you’re recording then you’ll hear a difference, but in a live gig you’re better off making the ‘feel’ the priority, and whilst the feel will change with all downstrokes vs up and down strokes, you want the song to not feel stilted. If you played that song live with those stumbles over tempo there’s more chance you’d be messing up the song by pursuing those constant downstrokes. If you’ve got the stamina and control, go for it, but as demonstrated here if you’re an all-rounder then there’s a good chance you won’t make it all the way through a full, fast tempo song using 8th note downstrokes.
Love your videos. I would love to see an indepth video of how you prepare for a new gig with new songs. How you prepare your notes, practice, and such. Do u use an iPad at the gigs or any specific apps or is it all just a great memory and knowledge of theory. Keep it up love it
I went from denying zoom as an option (I play in a band that has different styles of songs but song sound stays mostly the same or can be dialed in via tone/volume) to a considering getting one to see if it actually helps out. :) thank you a lot for this.
zoom has killer drive effects for some time now . its not 1993 anymore . we own a g10n a g3 and a b10n and a b2 they are all excellent . have never tried the b1x4 but i am guessing its very similar to the b1on
B1 Four is something but B3n is superior and I do not exactly know why. I gigged with B1 Four on a professional stage, going directly to PA. Then, I bought B3n, and set it up with the same settings as in my B1 Four (only compressor and amp sim without cabin). The sound guy did not know I changed my processor. He just wanted me to tweak the master a bit. (B1 Four was 80%, and I had to decrease B3n to 50%. At the end of the gig, he said "your tone was really good today, went very good with the drum kick".
Great video mate. I’ve just ordered a B1 four. I hope you do more video on the zoom unit. One question tho, why didn’t you have the comp at the front of the signal chain?
Great video. I had a Zoom B3 years ago and used it for rehearsals, but never used it live. Mainly because, at the time, I always used an amp on stage. My band plays Brass in Pocket and it's on my list of lesson videos to do. Great song and a lot of fun to play.
Great video. I've owned that multifx for a while and it replaced a lot of pedals on my board so it made me money from selling them! And it's Brass IN Pocket, not and. As in you have money in your pocket.
I appreciate this video - there's lots out there about the quality of the effects, but few people talk about practically using this device during a show. I'm considering getting one - couldn't you also use it in the patch mode and cycle forward/back through patches? This seems like it would be easier than having to cycle to a specific effect and turning it on/off.
Used to have this pedal. Unfortunately it just recently died on me. Refused to take in USB power or even battery power, and thus I had to replace it. Happened right before a gig as well.
You should give my patch a try and see if it works for you. I'll admit that the presets on here aren't always great, but that's been my experience with most presets on anything not just the Zoom. A little bit of tweaking over a weekend or two and I'm sure you can dial in just right.
Great vid. I just ordered. Quick question since I have a Rumble 500 as well (combo). Do you plug the Zoom into the input Jack or go into the back of the amp Jack?
I have 2 basses with flats on them at the moment, but I don’t play them super often. Most of my work is done in a live setting and flats, while awesome, aren’t as versatile as rounds. You can take away high frequencies with eq, but you can add them back in.
This video is great! I have a question. I'm new with pedals. How do you manage your pedal mid song? Cause I see you are using your hand to select to activate or not any of them. So instead of having it on the floor you have it on an elevate surface so you can press the buttoms with your fingers?
There are different modes, one of which is pedalboard mode which makes one of the big buttons scroll through the pedals and the other an on/off button.
Considering @ZoomCorporation just released G24 and G2x4, what do you think if they are going to release even B24 and B2x4? I think it would be great to finally have the headphones out and especially... the metal pedals and the solid case that increases the live proposal. But if the range of price would be the same of the G2s, probably it would not be a best buy as the B1 and B1x4 were
It’s a pretty safe guess that they will do a bass version, and when they do I will be really excited to try it out. However, you can absolutely plug headphones into the B1x Four.
I also have a Fender Rumble 500 v3. Do you run the Zoom B1 Four X in front of the amp or in the effects loop? Interesting that you put the modulation before the compressor. I would have put the compressor first in the signal chain. Something else to try
Absolutely! I've done lots of other videos in my How to Sound Like series where I make good use of that for the tones I'm trying to copy and it seems to sound really good.
I really like the Zoom setup! Thanks for the free download! Got my Zoom last week, lots of fun! I'm curious how you set your Rumble 500, was the EQ pretty flat? I have a Rumble 40 and I've fiddled with the knobs quite bit after switching from the headset to the Rumble.
I usually leave my amp mostly flat and adjust it to the room. Typically, I’m cutting bass or boosting mids but only a small amount. Thanks for watching! Enjoy your new pedal!
Many Thanks for the Vid. You have given me hope as i have been struggling with trying to and incorporate my Zoom live. Question - you say you use a Fender Rumble 500, do you plug Zoom direct into the guitar input or do you put it via the effects send/return?
@@ampthebassplayer Awesome - thanks for your help. One more question - what settings do you then run on the Rumble amp? Do you tweak the pre-amp settings as well or run flat?

7.2 should be the latest version. Download here from Zoom's official website: zoomcorp.com/en/us/multi-effects/bass-effects/b1-four-b1x-four/b1b1x-four-support/

Please, does any of you know how I can plug to the mixer? With a box? Directly though double XLR or how?
soo, the far left effect is the last effect and the right is the first in the effect chain? i dont understand
Thinking of getting one myself. Should I buy a case with it? Or does it come with the purchase.
It doesn’t come with a case, but I usually just tuck it in the pocket of my gig bag if I need to take it anywhere.
Did you go in the normal input of the rumble or the return on the back of the amp?
Normal input.
Did anyone else get terrible ground hum with this pedal? I even got the noise while using the regular mains input and it's the reason I sold it.
Do you use in ear monitors live?
Wheres the rc boost on zoom b1x four? Can’t find it
That one may be one that requires a free download from Zoom's Guitar Lab software.
yup but the thing is how do you utilise the footpedals during your gig?
It has a pedalboard mode where you can use one button to cycle through the effects and the other to engage/disengage the effect.
@@ampthebassplayer thx bro...getting it soon
