As someone who used to main Immolation Tinder with spell blade in DS3, I was really hoping for something like that, rapier aren't very fun but this could still do if they fix it
I would prefer it if they gave us a slot, instead... However, I understand that they didn't, for the Ash of War, because Casters would put BHS and that would be annoying to deal with in PvP setting. Knowing that, I wish they would instead, give us a different Ash of War, related to the Magic part... Not basic attacks...
@@Asriel_Cypher I was saying pressing the AoW button should've casted the spell, rather than having that function be the heavy attack. You can't use BHS as a spell.
@@williamrodriguez8957 I get that, but doing that, would remove the Ash of War. I personally don't like that. Hence the comment of I would prefer, earlier. Since AoW are one of the best mechanics in the game to fight with, and if you put that as the button, the weapon would just be a generic weapon moveset with AoW spells, instead of the weapon's trash moveset, plus AoW, plus Spells. So personally, I wouldn't want that... So I'd rather have the spell slot freed up. The Heavy Attack as the spell is enough for me.
I hope they fix this. It seems to be designed to be used with the shield with Carian Retaliation and using the sword’s heavy attack for casting spells. It makes sense, maybe with great scaling with the sword sorceries or restricted to the sword sorceries. But it needs to be fixed.

I compared it to the Prince of death staff +24 +25 sorcery sword From the clips, I got it did less than half damaged than the compared to the prince of death Relevant stats 70 strength 60 decks 16 intelligence 70 faith Prince of death was hitting for 1044 sorcery sword was heading for 423
@@Golem055 Edit: Bug Fixed This weapon and Staff of Great Beyond are currently bugged and don't scale properly when leveled up (SoGB has 142 sorcery scaling at both +0 and +10). It should be patched sometime later.
Yall got it wrong, I tested it out and it seems the weapons scaling attributes are glitched, I used the carian staff with for the passive that it grants you with this sword and it ended up doing less damage with the actual buff, but without it did way more, it's like earlier when we got Elden Ring, I don't remember which but one staff attributes scaling was glitched, they fixed and it turned out to be great, they'll fix this weapon
When they fix scaling, it will probably be alright at worst. Being able to wear a shield, swing a sword and cast spells at the same time is something unique. I doubt it's gonna be better damage wise than just outright wielding one of the damage boosting staves, but you can fast combo some of the Carian spells seamlessly, by first attacking with the sword and then following up with the spell. They also added a Talisman that passively restores FP, which is pretty cool as well
So, I can think of a few ways they could’ve improved this First, increase its stats, this thing does such shit damage it isn’t even funny, like, even a non fully upgraded Carian Knight Sword out does this thing in damage Second, instead of a thrusting sword, this should’ve been a Light Greatsword, there are only like, 3 Light Greatswords in the game, those being Milady, Rellana’s Twinswords and Leda’s Sword, adding this would give us another new sword and I think with its reach it can really benefit from the LGS moveset Third, for it’s Ash of War, it should cast the spell you currently have ready for use, so if you’ve selected Carian Phalanx, it casts Carian Phalanx, if you select Loretta’s Mastery, it casts Loretta’s Mastery, and so on and so forth with whatever spells you cast Just some ideas that could turn this sword from absolute dogshit to a spellblade’s wet dream
@@TheMyceliumMage Havent been able to play yet, but from my research if you use this, with the Main-gauche in your offhand with an AOW on that, you'd get a dual wield moveset, ability to cast spells, and an aow like Glintblade Phalanx for stance breaks and dagger crits. Probably my planned build once they fix the bugged scaling.

It's really sad how we went from the amazing Blue Flame, to the terrible Scholar's Candlestick, and now to the abysmal Carian Sorcery Sword. They wanted Casters to play as Spellblades the entire time in Elden Ring, and the one true Spellblade weapon they make, it's borderline useless... @@ManBig4621 Maybe if the spellcasting was the Ash of War instead of the awful default Impaling Thrust. Even if they massively buff the weapon and spell damage, it'll still be a vastly inferior Blue Flame at best. It's already bad enough that Seals/Staves are hot garbage outside of spellcasting. Caster gameplay has been almost a complete downward spiral in quality after DS2.

@@ManBig4621 Blue Flame was a Longsword Catalyst Weapon in DS2 that could be Infused, Buffed, and Powerstanced. Spells also originated from the hilt rather than the sword tip, which avoided the issue of potentially overshooting close enemies entirely. Its only real downside was its slightly below Cast Speed modifier compared to most Catalysts. In short, it was one of, if not the best weapon a Spellblade could use in the entire Soulsborne series.

Agreed. I don't like thrusting weapons, but I think I can use Carian Slicer with this and ignore it's normal moveset... I really don't like Rapiers as a weapon. It is useful in tight spots, so it is an option, but we can already use Carian Slicer spell so this is... trash.

If they ever fix the scaling (let have it scale sorcery from dex and int !), it can make for interesting gameplay as powerstance with Frozen Needle.

Since AoW are one of the best mechanics in the game to fight with, and if you put that as the button, the weapon would just be a generic weapon moveset with AoW spells, instead of the weapon's trash moveset, plus AoW, plus Spells.
