- All footage in courtesy of NRK. This Christmas, Norwegian author and artist Ari Behn committed suicide. This is his daughter Maud Angelica's speech at his funeral.
I just wanted to subtitle this beautiful and important speech and make it available for an international audience. It could save someone.

Since a lot of people have commented about the use of the term suicide survivor in the title: A suicide survivor is one of the family and friends of someone who has died by suicide. It doesn't mean she tried to commit suicide.

I was 20 when my brother did it, standing there, trying to keep your composure infront of so many people is not easy. But you feel like you have an obligation do to it, my parents were in no such condition so I felt that i HAD to do it. Much respect to her.

I’m half Norwegian and half American, just moved back to Norway and saw this. Thought monarchy was so silly, knowing of the scandalous Brits…. However, I’m so proud to have these beautiful people representing my country. They are so empathic, intelligent, and this lil’ girl will go so far in life, Jehova is with you ❤️

How many kids get taken by strangers? none… how many weeks does women get after giving birth in your country and with how much pay during that leave? here they can have up to a year.. do you guys actually have free health care?? if we use 288 dollars in healthcare in like 4-6 months the rest of the year it’s free, doctor is free, shrink is free.. and not to be a asshole but in a country with only 5.5 million people we do send alot and i mean ALOT of money out of the country to country’s who need it.. and not to forget about mass shootings how many did happen in your country in 2022?? if you are from the us almost 600 here in norway, 1… so no we are not a greedy nation..

She isnt just any 16 year old. She dthe king and Queen og Norways grandchild. The woman next to her is her mom. The king and Queens daughter.

Anyway, she's a young Woman who lost her Father so tragedy. Her Pain will be the same and is no other compared to "normal" People, no matter if she's the Grandchild of the norwegian King and Queen or if she wouldn't be. And by the Way, she's the Grandchild of the norwegian royal Couple, but not a Princess like her Sisters, because their Parents didn't want them to be and a royal Title for the Girls to give them the Opportunity to life a normal, private Life out of the Way of the Royalty
A girl is always daddy's little girl we all think when we are little that daddy is the strongest one in the world, he will always protect us, live us no matter what and as she said, your dad will shout at a bear for you. Some things you need to live them to understand and being able to speak only after such a traumatic loss. ...this girl is BRAVE

Wow; I kept wondering if there was a way I could know what dear Maud was saying and I AM SO THANKFUL that I can now have the chance to that. Maud you show strength and maturity beyond your 16 years. How you were able to turn your personal pain into a purpose to teach all of us what suffering the suicide of a loved one does to those left behind. And speaking as one who has dealt with depression and anxiety for most of my life I can’t thank you and your brave family enough for sending your message to the world. God bless you.
Spend time in nature grow some flowers do simple things lower your expectations talk on the phone etc etc so many people wish they could stay alive

When I read that, it instantly struck a chord with me because that's often how I feel. When I start to doubt myself or feel low, I think of my beautiful wife and our boy for strength and inspiration.

What a loving sweet girl,must have been wonderful for Ari to be her dad❤️ Please people, if you are thinking of ending your life; stop for a moment and imagine what it will do to the people that loves you,in a way you will take their lives too. I have no experience of this personally but to me as I see it, suicide is the most selfish thing a person can do. In a way you don't do it to yourself,you do it to your loved ones,you will be gone but they will stay and live with the grief every day for the rest of their life. They will do the suffering,not you. THINK and ask for help.

After losing two family members to suicide due to alcoholism and depression, I can't imagine the pain level where ending one's life would be the only solution. What remains will never totally go away. I will always wonder if there was more that could have been done to prevent it. I have long since forgiven them, and now I only think of them with love in my heart.

I am a survivor in Norway. I never forgive myself for having put myself in the situation I am now in this country, trapped and holding responsibility for to kids which didn’t asked-to be born. I’ve been a victim of a Norwegian psychopath which goes abroad to find slaves wives. I can’t find my way out this situation, and understand very much what kind of pressure Ari Behn had in this society. He may Rest In Peace.

You may not realize it when you are feeling the enormity of your specific situation, but there are people that will help you - family, friends, professional etc. Praying for all those who are hurting, alone, and lost.....

Maud Angelica is not a child of the monarch. She is a female-line descendant of the monarch. In 2002, the King (with Princess Märtha Louise's assent) removed Princess Märtha Louise's style of _Royal Highness_ and instead styled her as _Highness_ . Her current title and name after marriage is Princess Märtha Louise. This was meant to loosen connections between the Royal Family and her business life. She doesn't have any form of address in Norway. In 2019 the royal court announced that she will no longer use the title princess in her business activities.

I am sorry but no matter how depressed you are it is totally selfish to commit suicide, the more so on Christmas Day. What a wonderful daughter she is.
Committing suicide is not selfish. Depression is a terrible disease that can drive someone to absolute desperation, because of how overwhelmingly hopeless and pointless it makes you feel. Would you tell someone who's suffering from cancer and wishes to euthanize themselves to get rid of the pain, that they're selfish for wanting to escape it? No. So don't make such utterances about things you do not understand. There's a reason to why depression is called "the slow killer".
@@taky1329 It is selfish as it makes no consideration for the suffering caused to those left behind. As for euthanasia it is for God to decide when our days are number, not us. Life is precious. All too often depression is caused by anxiety which s the result of our own wrong-doing.

Just because he took his own life doesn't mean he doesn't care about his family; he loved them. But living each day in pain became unbearable. Suicide is never the right choice, because it comes out if nowhere and leaves the surrounding family in shock. But suicide is not selfish either; it's a symptom of the illness and a bad solution. I support assisted suicide because if someone is in horrible pain they can't tolerate, they should be able to be in control of their own life and not be forced to suffer greatly every day, and in this case the family has time to accept and work through the feelings as well and say their goodbyes. And I don't believe in any god or religion. Human lives belong to us, not any god. And depression is not anyone's own fault, it is an illness. Please educate yourself before spreading your ignorance around the internet.

Seems like you never have had an deep depression.. over years, like he did. Where you only see the dark at the end of the day. You don't think about you're family then in the way you might think. it's like they will be much better without you, if you just left the world, like he did. That was probably the only logic for him, sadly. He was a magnificent father and a beloved person. He just could not see himself that way. Depression is a slow fatal illness! It’s a horrible disease . I won’t wish it upon my worst enemy. To be swallowed in the eternal darkness of depression hurts beyond words both mentally an physically , and the last thing you want to do is hurt others.
The pain is just so unbearable and your mind messes you up so much that you truly believe that the world and even your closest and loved ones are better off without you.

fast du har så fel nu, som hon sa så hade han vart dålig i flera år, flera år med samma hemska tankar om att vilja ta ditt egna liv, jag tror inte att någon som tar sitt liv tar det för att vara egoistisk, utan han klarade helt enkelt inte mer för att det blev för mycket. tycker du är väldigt respektlös nu och det märks att du aldrig gått igenom suicid tankar och att han tog sitt liv är inte hans fel, hans döttrar, familj eller nån.
han har inte förstört för barnen utan dom sörjer men kommer acceptera i vetandes att deras pappa inte lider längre, och dom kan även hjälpa andra och ta upp signaler om suicid tankar. så du borde inte snacka innan du gått igenom det själv.
