DISCLAIMER: I make these videos to share my own personal methods and techniques for how I make cold process soap. These videos are not intended as tutorials for beginners. These videos are intended for those who already have an understanding of cold process soap making. Cold process soapmaking has many variables and involves working with sodium hydroxide (NaOH, also referred to as lye). Lye and raw soap can damage your eyes and burn your skin. When making soap, you should already know and practice lye safe handling procedures and always wear safety gear. While I hope you find watching my videos helpful or entertaining, so many variables go into making soap and even the smallest change can greatly affect the results; therefore, I am not liable or responsible for your results if you try any of the methods or techniques that I use in my videos.
Great video 👍
When I make 100% olive oil soaps, I add rosemary oleoresin and citric acid, which are natural preservatives and prevent rancidity (unfortunately, pure olive oil soaps get rancid, with time).
Anyway, my favorite recipe for body soap, which is also a base for most all my body soaps, is made with 75% olive, 20% coconut and 5% castor oil.
It needs no preservatives, because castor and coconut oil don't get rancid, so the soap doesn't, and increase lather a lot; soap makers know that lather has nothing to do with the quality of a soap, anyway it's pleasurable, so it's fine to add it.
I tried also 95% olive and 5% castor oils, and still the soap didn't get rancid with time; anyway, I liked it less than the previous one, it felt a little bit less delicate on the skin, and less hydrating too.
Still a good quality soap, anyway.
Wonderful information! Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi Dott. Lupus, almond oils also get rancid, right?
And what is the recipe (percentages) for your coconut wit olive oil soap? (It will my first attempt to make soap)
I have 200ml of coconut denatured, but it are solid at room temperature, can use with one liter of olive oil (~15% coconut oil) with lavander oleoresin? (for this quantities, how much lye (solid 98%) have to use? )
I have dry and sensitive skin and I wash my hands many times a day..
And what about the colorants types can be used to get some colorful stripes/spots like in the swirled soap's?
So it's olive oil that gets rancid, not coconut oil? I think now i know what happened with my soap.
Slippery elm bark also prevents rancidity in oils
I find that here in England coconut oil goes rancid quite fast in a humid environment.
Perhaps you mean refined coconut oil?
Sometimes a good Castile soap is what is called for. A wonderful bar. Perfect, simple and luxurious all at the same time. Love the cute little owl mold too.
Thank you so much, Renee! I have really been surprised at how much I love the single oil olive and shea butter soaps. And so simple to make! Thank you for watching and, as always, your kind, thoughtful comments!
I cannot believe how underrated your videos are! So glad I found your channel
I love how this video is filmed especially in the beginning, the quality, light, and everything about it. And the rest of the video too. Thank you❤️💕
Beautiful soaps, music and photos; so well thought out from start to finish.
I have never tried a real Castile before. Now I HAVE to. That is beautiful!
Thank you!
It’s beautiful. I love simple natural soaps. I made a batch of Castile and waited 6 months to use it. It was amazing. Thank you for sharing. 😊❤️👍
Thank you! They definitely get better with age. Thanks so much for watching! 😊
That's essential oil combination looks marvelous! Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Thank you for watching!! It was a last minute blend I threw together, but I really love it! Lime and rosemary really smell so good together. 😊
Castel soap awonderfull soap🥰
Thanks so much, Holly, for continuing to share with us!!
Thank you so much, Sherry!
I love the filming style and editing of this video. It's very appealing and relaxing. As always the soap looks creamy and beautiful! Awesome job!
Thank you so much!! ❤️
I actually let my pure olive oil soap cure for about 3 to 4 years. It becomes an amazingly creamy bar!

3-4 years!
I know! I love her!!! So relaxing and calming. Love her voice and the way she shows everything! 😊
I’ve made Castile soap before too. I’m actually using a bar that’s aged two years. I find Castile to be more cleansing and stripping than other bars I’ve made. My skin is all about the moisture! As a side note, who are the three thumbs down?? I don’t get that at all. Your videos are so beautiful, Holly, and the music you accompany them with is so soothing. If they don’t like soap making, why are they watching??
Thank you so much! I think these single oil soaps (like olive and shea butter) really do get so much better with age. Thank you for watching and commenting!!
Holly, you do such great videos (and everything looks so clean). Thanks for sharing! I love the lather test! Best regards, Diane
Thank you so much, Diane!
Love everything about this! Thank you for continuing to share your work.
Thank you!! 😊
I'm going follow this and make my mom some soap for Christmas.
I see that little guitar tuner for the cutting jig 😁....pretty cool 👍🏾 😁
Wow this is the hobby i want.
You handle everything with care🤗also the final test for your handmade is I like most🥰
Thank you so much for your video. I have bern researching and watching videos all week on this. Your soap looked lovely and thanks for showing the lather tests! It helped me a lot!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! I wish you success with yours!
@@hollysoapmaking Thanks!
I had my last child BORN with skin so dry and sensitive that it literally cracked and BLED at every bend and joint. She could only be bathed with baby oil, but my pediatrician suggested at 4 months that I could attempt Castile soap once a week. Having worked with horses, where Castile soap can commonly be found, I stopped by a tack store and snagged a bar asap. Almost had a heart attack at the price. 12$/bar?! Thus began my journey into soap making...as with everything else with my children EVERYTHING had to be complicated! My eldest couldn't tolerate ANY food additives without losing her mind. So homemade everything became "normal" and "mandatory" around our house. Freshie and pop were banned, along with chocolate and all artificial colours. Convincing grandparents that "treats" were NOT, treats, was the hardest part. As the allergists said, " the more they're exposed to now, the sooner the migraines will setin, and the more severe they'll be when they do. So far, it's my eldest that's been suffering the longest. Since she was 11. Her grandparents just couldn't grasp that her body couldn't cope with the chemicals of the food dyes. And so, consistently "treated" her to the exact things her "mean" old mother wouldn't let her have. Until the day her grandfather brought her home and I noticed she was again "high". Told her to come here, looked at her eyes, major telltale with her, her pupils would dilate, every time, they were.. .so I told her to run in and grab her jammies, poppa and grandma wanted her to have a sleep over... so off she went, grandfather is having conniption "we can't, we're going to a dance!"
"I've warned you before, now YOU get to deal with it."
"But.. But. ."
"Should have thought of that first. THIS TIME, you don't get to drop her off for her mother to deal with. Have fun..." the next AFTERNOON, he brings her home, looking like he's gone through 30 round with an entire class of kindergarten students, "I see what you mean... we haven't had ANY sleep at ALL. It won't happen again."
"Thankyou. I'm sorry it had to come to that. More sorry that its moved HER that much closer to her migraine threshold, but now that you're not going to be giving her any more of the garbage, perhaps it'll work out to balance the scales. "
какая грустная история. Но вы правы, зачастую крайне сложно убедить дедушек и бабушек не давать детям вредные лакомства. Удачи вам с вашими детьми!
one of the best video about soap
agreed 😊
Lovely, I like write the notes better than talking, great video, thanks for sharing.
My kinda soap, turned out beautifully..
Thank you!
I love watching your videos and love watching you soap. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much, Sue!!
DARN IMPRESSIVE ! Thank You for your time and the video. I'm going to try soap making this winter.
very complete and through listing of items used... beautiful soap. and great vid.
Thank you so much for showing the lather!!
So simple and plain but oooooo so beautiful 💕💕 Love that you shared the lather test with us 😘😘 thanks again for sharing an amazing video 💖💖
Thank you so much, Angélique!! 💕💕
Wow!!!! 150% quality....
I've been using pure beef tallow soap made with tap water for the past few months. Even less lather than your castile soap, but it cleans well and is gentle on skin. My second ever soap batch is currently curing, and is also all tallow, but has distilled water and sodium citrate so I'm hopeful it'll lather better.
Me encantó la belleza de lo simple. Felicidades!!!!! Hiciste un hermoso jabón
Thank you for the water discount note. I have made a few batches of olive oil soap and would like it to be harder. Otherwise I love it.
Have you tried adding sodium lactate to help?
Simple and beautiful, thanks so much for sharing
Thank you!!
Enjoy your videos, inspirational & educational. Your soaps are beautiful.
I made my first batch of homemade soap 3 days ago. I’m hooked.
Thank you so much, Rita! I’m so glad you started making soap. It’s so much fun and so addicting. I never seem to stop thinking about soap making. Haha. 😊
Welcome to the good addiction club 😂
The video is super clean. No useless chat, no noise.. The mearurements are clear. Filming shows the steps in a way you can easily follow.
I made soap based on olive oil only using lye calculators. The problem with olive oil only soaps is that they are generaly slimey. You have to let it cure for six months or so.
However if you add coconut oil to the plive oil, you get a firmer soap bar which is more practical and can be used in 4 to six weeks.
Yes, that is true but then it would not be a true Castille soap if it contained anything other than olive oil :)
Yes, I'm happy find you. thank a lot
Beautiful 🧼 soap and beautifully captured video!!!!
Thank you!!
@@hollysoapmaking you're truely an inspiration!!
You're an amazing soapmaker. I love to watch your all videos but I also want to learn some more organic soaps as you share coconut soap and olive soap.
Excited every time I see you post! You always make the yummiest creations! I was thinking I wanted to make an olive oil soap. Classic. Excited! That owl mold is adorable.
Oh, thank you so much! That’s so sweet of you to say! Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment!

This is amazing and I admire ur honesty and integrity.👍
a genuine generous person she is ! a real Artist ❤
Your soap is absolutely beautiful! Well done.
Thankyou for your most valuable tips and practical advice.
Shampoing antipelliculaire
Nettoyant mains & corps antiseptique
That's a beautiful video...
Love that single oil soap. No need to get all the oils. Can you pls tell me how to make that 35% lye solution.
Thank you.
Your videos are the best! So inspirational....truly professional and beautiful.....each a piece of art💕💞
Beautiful. I just made a 85 oz batch this evening of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Nice. Plan on making a small batch this weekend. Hope you like enjoy. This will be my first 100%. Olive oil soap. Can’t wait.
@@daphneydonegan5680 it's not too complicated. I used a water discount, Lye Concentration of 39% to help speed up the saponification process since this oil can tend to take longer to trace and cure. Have fun making soap!
Halsey Ballistic thanks for the tip. I’ll do that as well. Did you add a scent to it.
@@daphneydonegan5680 hi, I usually never scent my castle soaps. I feel that since it is a very gentle and mild soap, it should remain natural. That's my opinion. I save my scents for multi-oil soaps as well as colorants. Thank you for your questions. I do not have any soap making videos on RUclips but have an Instagram account that has my soaps along with other things I'm interested in
That owl was so cute! I love seeing you soap.
Thank you so much!! ❤️
Beautiful soap. I love your sharing.

Thank you so much!! ❤️
Excellent travail bravo
thankyou Holly for such a lovely video ... you seem to make it all look so spotless! I seem to manage to make a mess no matter how big a batch I do! lol
Thank you for watching! I'm really good at hiding my mess from the camera. Just a few inches out of view is total chaos most of the time. LOL 😀
Holly - Kapia Mera Soap hah! You just redeemed me😉
I love watching you soap! Thank you for another wonderful video. I really enjoyed the lather test too.
Thank you!
making soap is great, the only thing i would like to be better is the curing waiting time, time is money to me. but it sill amazing craft nevertheless. u do it good!
Beautiful. I’m going to make this soap.
This video is divine and I constantly come back over and over to watch it. Thank you! So do you warm your olive oil prior to mixing it with the lye?
Mixing seeds or dry herbs with soap can be fun 😊
Very nice soap, as I like with a lot of simplicity! I would just like to know the percentage of essential oils according to the weight of olive oil, and also to know if you have mixed the essential oils with the white clay before adding them to the soap? If so, is it effective to fix the scent of soap and especially citrus that tend to evaporate quickly? Thank you in advance for your clarifications and congratulations for the video, a real pleasure to see you every time 😊
The clay was mixed in with the essential oils. Some say it helps fix the scent. I can't really say that for sure, but I do it mainly for ease of incorporating the clay. Dry clay just takes longer to blend. To calculate your usage rates, I recommend using eocalc.com. For this blend, I used a 3% usage rate.
@@hollysoapmaking thank you very much 😚😚
Why am I salivating?
I love this clean design! 🤩
Amazing video, thank you so much, I will try

Beautiful. I will make that sometime.

Hi lovely. Thanks for your sharing. Want to know about the curing time of Castile soap. Please share your knowledge. Thank you 🙂

how long do you recommend curing this type of soap please? many thanks for all what you do ❤
Thank you so much for the beautiful video. I'm just wondering why you soaped at a low temperature. (74°F oil, 87°F lye)
