Yes, your pronunciation of Saiki's name is correct. :) And thank you for giving Akane her due. I've seen so many reactions that gloss over her performance or don't mention her at all. Miku also deserves accolades for serving as the anchor, allowing the others to do their thing. Great observations and commentary!

Ken, that was smart explaining your situation to your audience. There are not many, but a few Band-Maid fans who are defensive (almost toxic) about the group. I am a die-hard Maidiac and I respect your reaction to them. One of their most recent videos is a collaboration with Mike Einziger of the rock band Incubus. It's a mid-tempo departure from their usual hard rock sound, but it's a beautiful power ballad. The song is titled "Bestie". It's a heartfelt tribute from Miku Kobato to her bandmates, her "besties". The music is beautiful, the lyrics are simple but beautiful, the setting of the video is beautiful, and, of course, the Maids are beautiful (in different outfits). I think you will like reacting to "Bestie".
These girls are masters of their instruments. I am preying for a Band Maid, The Warning tour. I would pay a high price to see these 8 badass ladies on stage.
In their Christmas acoustic show they are dressed in normal clothing and in their latest music video Bestie which was co-written with Michael Einziger from INCUBUS.
I love a good word of the day. My first favorite big word when I was young was tintinnabulation. It's a jingling, tinkling or chiming sound as if from small bells.
For me..Kanami Tōno, lead gtr and composer, is the most impressive musician of the 21st Century. The way she composes is so tasty and unselfhish. Plays her guitar just what serves the song most, composes always to the whole band. Love it ❤️ Thank you for reaction. And yes, I’m also TW fan 🤘🔥😅🇫🇮
They change up their *battle gear* and over time they have become more unique to themselves. As others may have mentioned a couple occasions in different color schemes, either *all white* or the Christmas concert in *beige and burgundy* . *BAND MAID!* 🤘❤🔥🤘
I read that Hate? was near the end of their 3 hour set and from their performance, you would never know. Their dedication to the music and their fans is monumental.
THE best live Hard Rock band in the universe. And in any parallel ones. Thanks for noting Akane's superb and complex drumming throughout the call and response section as she usually gets lost in the glare of the musicianship on display. Also nice to hear Miku's vocal harmonies getting a shout out - her input is too often underappreciated. MISA recently had a signature model bass made by the company, Black Smoker, that makes all her basses (usually stock models that she has them custom paint). Nice to hear a shout out to John Entwistle - I last saw The Who live in 1975 on their Who Put The Boot In tour....seems like yesterday sometimes but it was....bloody hell...quite a while ago! My last gig was The Warning in Cardiff, Wales in April - of course they were superb!
If you want to see them out of costume, there's Band-Maiko "Secret My Lips" , the 2022 Christmas Special where they dressed like Santa and the reindeer, and for the song Bestie.
Welcome back, Ken. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 200 million views just on their official YT channel, plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ruclips.net/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/видео.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. On MISA's play style, there is a RUclips bass channel, where the host said that MISA uses, Slap and Pop, Snap and Claw, Plucking and Picking. He stated that "Snap and Claw" is actually the hardest technique, but she is a master at it. I still haven't figured out what Snap and Claw is exactly, but I'll agree with him. Over time they have used their own personal tastes in their stage wear or "Battle Armor" as they refer to it themselves. To them it is their "uniform" for their fans/"Masters and Princesses". They have used other styles depending on the performance.
If you love the Warning, you may enjoy Matchless Gum, Puzzle, Moratoriam, Manners, The Dragon Cries, Giovanni, I'll, Honkai and more hard rock type song. You may dig their instrumentals. Their fastest song is Blackhole, but you will still hear the groove and different rhythmic patterns. Their music is never boring and keeps you engaged.
"Musically a place for everything and everything in it's place" nicely said and that gets my sub and yeah Misa will get you everytime, cheers from down under 👍🍻
Miku's the one who really wanted the maid thing, she worked as a cafe maid and it was part of her concept when she founded the band. Saiki hated it at first, and over time both Saiki and MISA have moved away from maid costumes; at this point they're "maid-inspired" at best. Kanami and Akane were okay with it. They've said in interviews that they've come to see their stage costumes as "battle armor" and that they would be extra nervous to perform out of them. Still, they ditched the maid costumes for an acoustic show they released online a few Christmases ago, and for the Bestie music video. I don't think they'll ever completely lose the maid gimmick, but I can see them all moving toward more "maid-inspired" outfits over the coming decades, if they continue to perform together. I had the good fortune to find this band around 2017, when they were still fairly new. I caught their second-ever show in the US (if I'm remembering right - maybe it was third?) in 2018, and then I saw them again in 2019. That year they were doing meet-and-greets for VIP ticket buyers, so I actually got a chance to meet and speak to them. Although, truth is... even though I was a big fan, I didn't really have anything to say to them (and my Japanese was probably worse than their English!) It's not as though we know each other personally, after all. So I ended up shuffling past them much faster than I should have, feeling too nervous to try my terrible Japanese on them, and the only one I ended up saying anything at all to was MISA, who was first at the table. I always regret that a little, especially seeing as they'll probably never do a meet and greet again and I wasted my one chance to have more of an interaction with them, but it's still a good memory. The show is a good memory as well - Saiki had a reputation as an ice queen, but we cheered like hell for them, Saiki spent the show unable to stop smiling and practically glowing, and we discovered that the more energy you feed into her, the better she sings.
Came here for the music stayed for the eloquent commentary. Band-Maid for me is the perfect storm. Each member adds to the overall ensemble so the sum of their individual contributions are greater than the whole. It wouldn't be Band-Maid without their iconic costumes/uniforms. Even Saiki (who initially hated the idea of the maid aesthetic) is totally on board and loves her head piece and uniform. Just don't expect her to serve you tea.
Totally understand your point about listening to music you can sing along to. We're all different. For me, for as long as I can remember, I have generally sung along with the guitar and melodies of songs, even when I know the lyrics, so the language of the lyrics has never been a concern. (One of my all time favorite songs has a weird mash up of German, English, and Japanese lyrics.)
I like how their maid uniforms have been evolving over the years. Miku is really the only one that still wears more of a maid uniform now. During their Christmas acoustic concert they referred to their outfits as their "battle gear" or something to that affect. So even though their outfits may keep evolving over time, don't think it will go away at any point.
Finally. Misa only makes me think of one bass player and that’s the bass player from The Who. You are the first reactor who has noticed this. On the album Quadrophenia … John Entwistle plays the bass like it’s a lead guitar.
After several listens, I thought Misa is a reincarnation of John Entwistle. And Akane is a reincarnation of Keith Moon. It looks like they are playing together again in different country dressed in maid outfits.
While I do listen to them in the car (I sing along too, don’t know more than like 6 words in Japanese) I too love watching them on RUclips, they’re astounding to watch. There is plenty more to watch on RUclips, you should watch more! If you want to see them without maid outfits, they collabed with Mike from Incubus and the MV for Bestie lacks any maid outfits. Also their acoustic concert has no maid outfits.
Great reaction! And don't worry, some nitwits are always there. Like that idea that it would be a race between Misa and Kanami. They have no clue about the genius musical interaction, as well as the complete absence of ego between the members. Better to give energy to people that radiate the same positivity as our lovely women.
You get bonus points for the John Entwistle reference! 👍 This track is a "Fuck you, I'm done!" relationship song. If you watch it again with the closed captioning you'll understand why the tone is that way.
HATE? was #27 of a 33 song set list at this concert with 18K attending! BAND MAID has done Acoustic concerts where they do not were the costume - the song BESTIE (INCUBUS collaboration) also has them out of costume. More suggestions: MORATORIUM -ruclips.net/video/sf2th1ZL6J8/видео.html FREEDOM - ruclips.net/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/видео.html BLOOMING - ruclips.net/video/uUt_JBMocKM/видео.html Daydreaming - ruclips.net/video/RCaeUkrItyY/видео.html For some real fun watch these videos together - same song different versions PUZZLE - both of these are live! Acoustic version - ruclips.net/video/ayJtzPkgZTc/видео.html - Rock version - ruclips.net/video/zvuqmSQEnaA/видео.html From a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly. Some bassists may throw their picks away to slap, but you use the same pick when you change from slapping to picking again, right? (Misa): No, I don't throw my pick away. I have become better as I practiced. For the recent 2-3 years, I haven't lost any pick. (Chris): Show me how. (Misa): I keep the pick with my index finger and palm. (Chris): Then you slap the bass with your thumb and middle finger? Can you show me how you play? (then Misa shows how) (Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever. (Chris): You are mixing them up! That's awesome! (Misa): I think anybody can do it if you practice. Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - now has a signature 5 string bass.
To answer your question about their opinions about their Maid Astethtic, it wasn't always the case in the beginning, but now, No. They Love their look and even call it Battle Armor with even Saiki saying she feels uncomfortable without it on when they're performing.
Just like the rest of the song, the guitar-bass exchange was carefully crafted. It cleverly starts as a throw down, then moves to a call-and-response, before finally playing together. It’s virtually identical to what they did at Lollapalooza. At this show, they debuted the outfits you see here. They deliberately play down the maid elements and become more goth. Compare to what they are wearing in the THRILL OMV, and the 2020 concerts, etc. In their latest video, BESTIE, they all wear entirely white outfits, as the song is a collaboration with Mike Einziger of Incubus, and they felt the maid outfits would not be appropriate. Take a look. The song is very different, but still very BAND-MAID, and the visual transformation is magical.
Well, the collab in SHOW THEM was amazing. Danie's scream at the start was amazing. Also the way how Kanami arranged the call-and-response between two bands, was really smart: each band responded to the call of the member of the same band. We don't have a good recording yet, but I'm sure it will be released one day, it was recorded and filmed during the concert. And then we'll be impressed even more (once again, because BAND-MAID never ceases to impress).
You will notice that, first Saiki and then Misa changed their clothing style within the first couple of years- sort of goth/maid. Don't let over the top comments get to you- just delete them. Band-Maid and their true fans have a huge respect for each other and those other bands, but a very few can't accept different opinions on music or bands. Great reaction by the way- more please. In contrast to the more frenetic try Wonderland Official Live Video (a Saiki masterclass) or Daydreaming Official Music Video (One of Kanami's early favourite songs).
Hey Ken! Sure you've seen me around TWA for a few years lol. Think you could give You a listen? It's my favorite song from them but it gets very little appreciation because there's no OMV or even a good live vid. Only the audio. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
There's a solid live of it from a while back, but you'd have to find a concert on a kind of sketchy site. They did it recently at the 10th Anniversary spin off. Hopefully we'll get a way to buy that show soon. Really cool song.
It's so hard for me to pick my favorite member. Misa the bassist is incredible. Akane is a phenomenal drummer. But Kanami is the adorable guitarist and brains that composes all the music. And to top it off the rhythm guitarist Miku is the founder of the band. Edit - Personally don't want them them to get away from their maid persona. Kiss did and they went back to it. Alice Cooper never strayed from his on stage antics and theatrics. Slipknot, Buckethead and others embraced the traditional rock strange theatrics and thrived with it.
Unfortunately, the first time I saw Alice Cooper was for Flush the Fashion when he had finished rehab and had pared back the show and didn't even wear the make-up. Thank goodness that didn't last long.
Band-Maid on occasion won't wear the Maid outfits (or battle amor as they call them). The maid outfits have sort of morphed over time to reflect each members personality. Of the most recent outfits only Miku still wears what would be considered a traditional maid outfit. I don't think they will every get rid of them (or want to) but in the recent video for the song Bestie they don't wear them (because the song was a collaboration). Also, they use to do all of their interviews in the maid costumes, it seems they are easing up on that as well.
They have worn different costumes at different times over the history of the band. Miku started the band, and worked at a Maid Cafe. So she's the most dedicated to sticking with the maid costumes. She pretty much sticks to the classic maid dress. Kanami used to dress very similar, with some subtle differences. She still keeps the maid feeling, but not so much the classic look now. The others less so. Misa didn't like the look, so wears black dresses and excuses it by saying she dresses as an assassin maid. Saiki is similar, and some people say she dresses more like the hostess than the maids at a cafe. Akane probably changes the most from tour to tour. She keeps the black and white color scheme, but styles change a fair amount. Plus she can't have long heavy dresses, or they would get in the way of drumming.
(Sigh-Key_ is correct, just like Psyche. Only 95%? I'd take her over 100%. But the Call & Response "Battle" isn't a race. The best description I've hear was it's a musical interpretation of the back & forth in the argument with the guy that she hates. They do dress in other things. As their April Fool's Day persona BAND-MAIKO they dress as Geisha. But if you want to see them in something more casual than Maid Outfits check out the Acoustic Christmas Broadcast. They could wear whatever they want, as long as it was Christmas Red and or Reindeer Brown.
I understand you wanting to have a genuine reaction to songs that you haven't heard. Just suggestion, if there are any Band Maid songs you have already heard and especially like, you could do a 'review' video to show and explain why you think the song and or the band is great. That way you can still make a video but be authentic.
You rewind and praise Akane. That’s sufficient for me to give a like. I don’t like reactors who don’t rewind. It’s lousy. Also, I love when people, pay attention to intricacies of drumming. That’s top notch.
1 don't mind a few negative comments if the majority are ok. 2. We just don't se the Maid costume anymore and could care less about it. Is been 10 years almost 11. So no I don't think they got tired of it.
Misa and Saiki have never liked the maid outfits and have been doing their own thing for years Miku and Kanami love dressing in the maid outfits and Akane doesn't mind either way

Yes, your pronunciation of Saiki's name is correct. :) And thank you for giving Akane her due. I've seen so many reactions that gloss over her performance or don't mention her at all. In their Christmas acoustic show they are dressed in normal clothing and in their latest music video Bestie which was co-written with Michael Einziger from INCUBUS.
Wow! Excellent! "Bestie" really had an "Incubus" vibe to it. Even down to the music video itself. Not a criticism at all, btw.

(from their own Anime MV (series?)): ruclips.net/video/7LB_EPS48HE/видео.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:

Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD.
And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:

If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, live streams, CD, DVD/BD & merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies.
A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.

The Maids are one of the hardest working supergroups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids, and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE!
Thank you for the informative and well laid out comment. I will try to take note of your suggestions for future videos.
Such a great song 🙂
Thanks so much nice reaction!
I hope you`ll enjoy them!
I think snap and claw is when she mixes Rice Krispies with Frosted Flakes. Thanks for the informative comment BTW.
Well done Ken. Thanks for a thoughtful reaction.
"Musically a place for everything and everything in it's place" nicely said and that gets my sub and yeah Misa will get you everytime, cheers from down under 👍🍻
That 5 string bass sounds sick
Great reaction! Thanks
Very nice and informative comment. Thank you for taking the time to watch and fill me in on some background. I'll have more coming soon.
I think they are well on their way toward a more maid-inspired look. Miku seems to be the only one holding down the maid thing now.
Came here for the music stayed for the eloquent commentary.
Band-Maid for me is the perfect storm.
Each member adds to the overall ensemble so the sum of their individual contributions are greater than the whole.
It wouldn't be Band-Maid without their iconic costumes/uniforms.
Even Saiki (who initially hated the idea of the maid aesthetic)
is totally on board and loves her head piece and uniform. Just don't expect her to serve you tea.
I'm a coffee man anyway.
You want to see them in non-maid outfits, eh?
Please check these MVs from their official YT channel, then:
Gion-cho
Catharsis
Bestie
Have fun, PO!🕊💕
I like how their maid uniforms have been evolving over the years. Miku is really the only one that still wears more of a maid uniform now. During their Christmas acoustic concert they referred to their outfits as their "battle gear" or something to that affect. So even though their outfits may keep evolving over time, don't think it will go away at any point.
"Bestie" Official Music Video
co-write with Michael Einziger from INCUBUS. Their newest song with different cloths.
As an old fan of The Who, I see it the same way.
Don't You Tell ME (Live) for another guitar/bass battle! Subbed.
Great reaction! And don't worry, some nitwits are always there. Like that idea that it would be a race between Misa and Kanami. They have no clue about the genius musical interaction, as well as the complete absence of ego between the members. Better to give energy to people that radiate the same positivity as our lovely women.
They can wear whatever they want at this point but I hope Miku keeps the maid costume
Bandmaid,aka "The Perfect Beast "
You get bonus points for the John Entwistle reference! 👍 This track is a "Fuck you, I'm done!" relationship song. If you watch it again with the closed captioning you'll understand why the tone is that way.
HATE? was #27 of a 33 song set list at this concert with 18K attending!
BAND MAID has done Acoustic concerts where they do not were the costume - the song BESTIE (INCUBUS collaboration) also has them out of costume.

From a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly.
(then Misa shows how)
(Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever.
(Chris): You are mixing them up! That's awesome!
(Misa): I think anybody can do it if you practice.
Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - now has a signature 5 string bass.
Thank you for your list of suggestions and the interview snippet. I will do my best.
I dont care for The Warning, but Band-Maid is an incredible hard rock band.
Misa can go from pick to slap in the blink of an eye!
From Now ON and Onset
I,love, most that exit from duelling supported by double bass by Akane. It’s even better in Lolapalooza with contribution by Miku.
Misa's my fav too 😅
🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO!
Never, ever, say you are sorry when you back up a B-M song!
Check out Bestie, It is in English. And they are wearing all white.. another good one is, From now on. It's great.
You rewind and praise Akane. That’s sufficient for me to give a like. I don’t like reactors who don’t rewind. It’s lousy. Also, I love when people, pay attention to intricacies of drumming. That’s top notch.
I live to serve. 😁

It's like the spirit of the maids.
1 don't mind a few negative comments if the majority are ok.
2. We just don't se the Maid costume anymore and could care less about it. Is been 10 years almost 11. So no I don't think they got tired of it.
Misa and Saiki have never liked the maid outfits and have been doing their own thing for years Miku and Kanami love dressing in the maid outfits and Akane doesn't mind either way
🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥!!!

The spirit of Jaco Pastorius inhabits MISA...and the soul of Buddy Rich is in Akane. The best rhythm section in rock.
