    I've been an avid bike rider since 81, and I have always worn a Helmet. You don't wear one to look good, you wear one to protect your brain in case of a accident. I've been in two Car/Bike accidents. Now I ride a recumbent bike and a helmet is even more important. That new helmet design looks nice, but needs to be ANSI and SNELL approved.

      @@steadfastcoward sounds like you locked it to the wrong part of the bike. i had that happen once, ems locked my bike up for me after an accident and it was stolen overnight. dunno what they locked it to, but i would guess the seatpost, which is easy to steal the bike, just take the seat off which requires minimal to no tools. the lock was still there, locked around the signpost. i doubt they picked the lock, though, if they had picked it, they wouldve just left it there, not taken the time to relock it.

      standing in the sun for about 10 seconds gives you UV radiation then that helmet would produce in several years....
      Let alone a tanning bed, which is even WORSE, by DESIGN (tanning and sunburn are your body's main defenses against melanoma). The disconnect in some folks amazes me. I gave a whole list of EM frequencies and their (generally lack of) risk in a comment above this one.

    • @ShermanSitter
      @ShermanSitter 5 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the information! I definitely don't do tanning beds! :) ...and I stay fully covered in the sun. the thing about science (which I am a supporter of) is it massively expands our sphere of ignorance which means at any time they can "find" risks. sometimes you have to mix intuition when making decisions, but I appreciate you shedding some UV rays on the topic. :)

    • @DFX2KX
      @DFX2KX 5 лет назад +1

      good call on the tanning beds.
      That's the thing, though. If science found some link between radio wave exposure and cancer, there's enough ambient radiation (from sources both natural and otherwise) that you'd really have to live 100 meters underground in a cave. And the risk is unlikely to be statistically significant.
      WiFi is conveiniant enough that I'll take the 5 in 2,000,000,000 odds. My hypertesion medication has 1 in 50,000 odds of total organ failure, for instance.

    Two questions on the first helmet :
    1. Will the nicely styled helmet absorb the energy of an impact ? I thought helmets where bulky due to polystyrene padding and internal "space", which creates a "crumple zone" to protect your head. A close fitting helmet will transmit the impact forces directly to your head, as if it's not there at all. Probably embed a splinter into your skull along the way.
    2. What is vegan leather ? Leather is animal hyde. I presume vegan is not animal, therefore its synthetic, therefore perhaps a plastic based material. Save killing animals, only to poison them with discarded plastic helmets ?
    Sorry to he negative but it seems like solving a superficial problem and creating more serious issues.

    So, the helmet with the RF/WiFi/Blue tooth bring radio frequencies and micro waves right next to your head. Have Cancer insurance?

    • @MladenMijatov
      @MladenMijatov 5 лет назад +3

      Simply put, no. There's no evidence that they do. That radiation is not ionizing radiation, in other words EM waves don't have enough energy to affect your body in any way. Besides that we are exposed to far greater sources of radiation every day without any significant effect on our health.
      Why would anyone want heavier helmet is another story.

    • @weaselsworld
      @weaselsworld 5 лет назад +1

      That's not how that stuff works. You don't get cancer from being exposed to radio waves used by current technology. If that was possible, everybody would be dying from cancer right now. You have no idea what kind of exposure you're getting right now from local cell towers, radio stations, television stations, emergency services networks, all the wireless routers you and your neighbors have... The list goes on.
      Basically, relax about it. You're going to give yourself an ulcer stressing out for no good reason because some other morons out there would rather stir the pot with junk science than contribute to society in a positive way.

    • @DFX2KX
      @DFX2KX 5 лет назад +2

      I feel it should note that, WiFi (which is a radio band), microwaves and visible light are all the same thing, electromagnetic radiation. The legal maximum transmitter power for a WiFi radio is 1 watt. most are far less powerful then that (The one next to me is 750mW or so I think). My 7LED flashlight is about 3 watts, give or take.
      There are only a few spots on the EM spectrum (from radio on the long wavelength end, to Gamma and Cosmic rays on the short end) you have to worry about. Visible light is smack dab in the middle. Radio waves cannot kill you in any dosage you could possibly receive them under normal everyday circumstances. Most of the radio waves you absorb do not come from FM or AM radio transmitters, AC power lines, or WiFi. They come from space. We use the channels we do because the universe is somewhat quiet at those frequencies.
      Microwaves, as used in communication (or most anything else), cannot harm you either. Microwaves punch through the air very well, and as such operate on tiny fractions of a watt of power per square meter for something like a GPS receiver. To give anyone any measurable chance of cancer, you'd have to build a special wave-guide box, and a cavity magnetron of impressive size and tuned to a very particular frequency so that it interacts with the water in your body. You've now made a human-sized microwave oven.
      Infrared can harm you in large amounts, you feel that as radiated heat, say when you open up your oven, or hover a hand over your coffee. Thermal imagers can see in this frequency, as can some missiles, too, so I suppose if you're a fighter pilot for a living, you can be afraid of IR light.
      Visible light can harm you in much the same way as IR can, but most sources of visible light generate just as much if not more IR light then visible, so... see the above. In the case of visible light, it's your eyes it can destroy. This is why you don't shine a laser pointer into your face.
      UV light is needed for vitamin D in small doses. But UV in excess will kill you, and it will not care. I bet half the people that go 'I don't have WiFi In my house! go to tanning salons, and happily absorb 1,000,000 times the radiation their WiFi router will ever give them in a lifetime within the space of one 20 minute session. Seriously people.
      Gamma Rays are seriously bad, mmmkay? It's (one of) of the things that turns your DNA into hot porridge when you get exposed to nuclear waste. If WiFi scares you though, you really don't want to know how much of this type of radiation you absorb in a lifetime from the Sun, it's TINY compared to how much the Sun outputs in even a minute, but it's still way more then you get from a Router.......

      They are on Amazon. Their prices are due to the high quality of technology put into the lights. Well, they also have to make a profit. But I'd rather pay $50 for a hologram like projection that's water proof and will last a couple years as opposed to a $5 flimsy, dimly lit piece of plastic that breaks when it gets wet and doesn't have a rechargable battery. You pay for quality and durability, these lights are both.

    Like very much the Thousand lemon helmet and I would send some samples to major Scandinavian bike shops. Price is reasonable and taken the design and the quality into account I would let it at 99,00 euros customer pride which is still good under the price of the big brands.Especially women like that model in Belgium but you can find similar of it at half of the price in my county. That's why I say northern Europe.

      thing is. Bike helmets look the way they do for a *reason*. Those helmets helmets remind me of the 'Helmets' sold here that get called 'brain buckets' a lot (because that's about all they're good for in an accident, it's a motorcycle term). It appears to have no padding to speak of, and doesn't have any features built in to protect against neck injury either. I'd be shocked if it could even get the requisite ratings here in the states, let alone the tougher EU laws.

    Funny how they think one lock that you lock and unlock with your phone will prevent thieves from stealing your bike. And that kind of lock is kinda obsolete. I don’t mean the U Lock is obsolete, I mean the kind of U Lock that only locks on one side. You need a U Lock that locks on both sides so a thief would have to make more than one cut slowing them down a little. Not only that but you should have more than one lock on your bike. Whether it be two or three U Lock’s, two U Locks and a chain lock or three different kinds of bike locks. No cable locks though. Too easy to cut...unless you have two or three locks on your bike already and you just want a cable lock on it too for added security. Too much security isn’t a thing. Some people think that a lot of locks on your bike is not necessary but I say the more locks on your bike, the less of a chance a thief will try to cut them and steal your bike. It would be too much work for them.

"Must have" usually means sales. And "best of" posts are so subjective. You know there's a high probability of disagreement. I do like it when I find something I like that I didn't know about.

      I agree with you. Darn shame it's a no-go as it was the only 1 of the 5 I'd consider getting.
      If you look at the FAQ, they suggested an odd notion: "cyclists exchange their bicycles more frequently than the brake pads because these usually last for more than 5000 kilometers." 5000 k = 3106 miles and I've not yet replaced my bike (8 months old and ~ 4,000 miles) or my brake pads.

    As a biker I disliked the Thousand helmet less areas to protect the sides of the head, live near the cervical area (behind my neck), area that a Girl helmet protected my head on both side and the back.
    The phone holder doesn't look safe, in bumpy roads and riding bikes in my country is a though test and also my city is not designed thinking on bikes we share the streets with buses, cars, trucks, motorcycles and often I need to go up on the curbs to be safe on the sidewalks, that's 🇧🇷

    Microlights should introduce the Malawi set at just under 50 euros per set. By preference a promotion campaign towards fall 2018 at both local bike shops and bigger vendors. The great advantage for a regular biker is that is is frictionless.Bicycle riders watch that they do not loose speed by accessories. We miss all sense of taste to make our bikes sleek. Like that product.

      De Cnijf Kris the micro light doesn't have mechanical friction on your wheel, but it absolutely adds a load thanks to eddy currents. You don't get power for free.
