I own 2 model trezors, 2 ellipal titans, a keep key, a ledger nano (not sure if x or s I think s), an ellipal titan mini, and I just bought a stax waiting for them to start shipping. I like the style of this stax and really wanted to get my hands on one.

I hate the current Ledger devices primarily because of the user interface. If we're going to get widespread adoption of crypto we're going to need better usability, this is a good step forward. Can't wait for the Stax. Fingers crossed a cheaper version comes in the future.

You only need the nano s plus, I class the extra features Bluetooth and battery on the X as negatives certainly not worth paying more for. The nano s works fine on the phone apps with the correct cable.
Hi I just wanted to mention you can actually use your ledger nano s or s plus with your mobile phone u just need a cable with 2 type C plugs on it to be able to do so I have actually done this my self. Hope this was helpful. 😁
They don't sell the Ledger Nano S anymore, but they do still support it. I don't know about forever. I think the rule of thumb is that a tech device or system is supported for around seven years after it is discontinued. Eventually, you should think about migrating your wallets to a current product line. I mean if you still owned an iPhone 4, would you expect Apple to support it? And would it even be capable of handing the most current apps? Technology moves forward... it does not move backward or stand still. However, your 24 word backup phrase will last many years... I can't speak to forever
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the most secure aspect of the Ledger Nano S/X is that it requires the pressing of 2 *physical, mechanical* buttons in order to sign a tx? Such that it makes it extremely more difficult for a malicious party to remotely simulate the electronic result of whatever is happening when the user physically presses those 2 buttons simultaneously (i.e. within a very short time span of each other) ? And the STAX relies on software, not a mech button, to interpret a "press and hold" , thus is more susceptible to spoofing/remote hacking that software element? Sort of like how a mechanical steering wheel must be controlled in person, by a driver, to turn the wheels but a steering wheel that is software controlled can be turned remotely should the manufacturer wish to send that signal to the steering wheel, thus overriding the physical presence of the driver?
They do not have user profiles for multiple users (a great idea) within Ledger Live. However, Ledger Live does support multiple devices and by extension multiple Stax devices. Each account/wallet in Ledger Live is associated with a corresponding device (whichever device was attached when you created the account)
I wonder, how well will Stax hold up to everyday carry? Vibration? Sweaty pockets? High electrical field environments? Cant wait for the follow up reviews!
Great points. I also wonder how it stax up against hackers attacking it. We have probably all seen a trezor broken open and the keys dumped from it. Will this have anti-tamper like the ellipal maybe? I really think that hardware wallets are still lacking. I think they need to have more things that they work with. I also would have loved to see a standalone device so if for example your phone was dead you would still be able to make a critical payment. I think as crypto evolves and become more main stream we will see better hardware wallets as more people start to use them. I am thinking that social media using them, payment terminals like credit card machines and atm's, these things will drive more adoption and especially as more DEX's become used and people get their coins off exchanges will be a big driver.
To be clear. If you own a ledger and want to convert to ledger stax. All you have to do is restore and use your key phase? Then all rolls over to the stax? Please do a video when you get for confirmation. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to see more on the stax

Good point. I can almost forget that I have the Ledger Nano X in my pocket (right pocket along with my keys). I keep my phone in my left front pocket. Having the Stax in either pocket would be noticeable. Not to be sexist, but I think most women will have better options. They tend to carry their phones in their back pocket or purse. You could restore the Stax using the Ledger x recovery phrase. That would make it a mirror drive. Or you could just transfer some of your assets directly from X to Stax
why didn't they just put a camera to read the qr code directly on the stax so you could eliminate the need for the smart phone on the transaction? wouldn't need a very high res camera to do that
Is it true that a hardware wallet is useless once it's been used as when you use your recovery phrase/seed it becomes public and anyone can then steal it? Also is there a way to reset the key/phrase to keep stuff safe?
Been a long time(2017) user of Ledger, have multiple Nano S and Nano X and a new Nano S Plus. as a buy and hold kind of crypto buyer I don't need the bells and whistles of STAX; I can cold store my cyrpto just fine w/the Nano X. I think best practice is to never buy a used Nano from a third-party. Why? Because you know the 24-word ecovery seed forever for that device. At least, that's what I have read on the Ledger website.
@@irweezyy I'm no expert here but the short answer is no--I think! Sure, you can transfer all your assets from the wallet to anothe wallet, but...the new owner still has to deal w/the uncertainty of you, the seller, knowing the original 24 word recovery seed. What would keep a bad actor from restoring a new device w/the old seed phrase and therefore having access to the new owner's wallet and crypto? Good luck selling your device. Let us know if you learn otherwise that a device's 24-word recovery seed can be reset, presumably by the new owner. I don't think it can.
Yes indeed! There is a great Tosh.0 bit from Season 2 Episode 25 where Tosh keisters a $5000 cash roll after he watches a guy stick a bunch of quarters in his belly button. Classic!
Yes, me too. I guess they were trying to cram as much as they could into an affordable, secure package and a color LCD would have made it too expensive. Perhaps the next iteration. Still a vast improvement in interface over the Nano X

I have not seen this demoed, but I am hoping for a pop-up keypad for entering seed phrases and passphrases. That remains to be seen.
as a buy and hold kind of crypto buyer I don't need the bells and whistles of STAX; I can cold store my cyrpto just fine w/the Nano X. I don't see the value here other than chasing the next new thing. I'd like to them add a password vault feature like Last Pass that I can can use my device for both crypto and online websites. If they add this feature and I'm able to cancel my lastpass subscription, then I'm interested.
Lastpass just had a pretty big data breach...
@@irweezyy yup they did. That's why I'd like to the capability to use my ledger device to logon to my various websites. That was my point.
So in your honest opinion would you recommend the ledger Stax over the Ellipal Titan?
Stax and Ellipal are kind of like apples and oranges. Ellipal is air-gapped and slightly larger, so it would be a personal preference.
Can you update inside app like Dcent Wallet?
The Stax will have firmware and Apps updated within Ledger Live. Just like the X & S Plus
Not sure if I missed this, but will the stax do biometrics for access? Or do you need to enter a PIN like with the nano X for access?
No camera for face ID an no fingerprint reader that I know of.
So I started buying crypto over a year ago on PayPal probably not the best idea using that but was easy getting started into crypto 8/9 months ago opened a coinbase account last few weeks started sending my crypto to my ledger nano x so it's not left on the exchange. Only issue I have I'm from the UK and PayPal doesn't allow me to send crypto but the US does would a VPN work??
Not sure about that. Papal may base it policies on the nationality of the account holder. But not sure.
@@CryptoDad okay thankyou probably just wait to see if that add the option for UK customers or wait till it goes back to the the purchased price and sell buy elsewhere
My philosophy is K.I.S.S-uckas!😳🤣😺
Does it bother you that Ledger is not open source ?
Cardano 🥇
I see the hardward coming into a very alarming grey area whereas it's good "easier" allows more adoption and yet also allows hackers access to exploit. Just saying. Mahalos Rex.
Easier to use dosnt mean easier to exploit lmao
Is it possible to sell a used nano x? Considering getting this one but would be nice to get some money back from the old hardware
I think best practice is to never buy a used Nano from a third-party. Why? Because you know the 24-word ecovery seed forever for that device. At least, that's what I have read on the Ledger website.
@@Zues64 is there no way to replace/reset/wipe it?
@@irweezyy I'm no expert here but the short answer is no--I think! Sure, you can transfer all your assets from the wallet to anothe wallet, but...the new owner still has to deal w/the uncertainty of you, the seller, knowing the original 24 word recovery seed. What would keep a bad actor from restoring a new device w/the old seed phrase and therefore having access to the new owner's wallet and crypto? Good luck selling your device. Let us know if you learn otherwise that a device's 24-word recovery seed can be reset, presumably by the new owner. I don't think it can.
Anyone have a promo code?
That would be hard to keister it when needed.
Yes indeed! There is a great Tosh.0 bit from Season 2 Episode 25 where Tosh keisters a $5000 cash roll after he watches a guy stick a bunch of quarters in his belly button. Classic!
Is he related to DAI?
Would like to see review when you physically get one
Disappointing that the battery isn't replaceable.
Yes just like an iPhone.
First 🏆
Nah, I'll pass. I'm waiting for the color screen. Or best if I could get a broken one and modified it myself lol..
Why is it not in colour? Big letdown
Yes, me too. I guess they were trying to cram as much as they could into an affordable, secure package and a color LCD would have made it too expensive.
Perhaps the next iteration. Still a vast improvement in interface over the Nano X
This should be standard, not cost $300
Definitely not buying since it doesn’t offer anything better than what my Nano X and S+ offer.
Since Ledger got closer to Apple by hiring the guy behind the iPod design, it's starting to smell a bit like a bad apple. They've been de facto disabling the "old" MacOS since the last upgrade, the Apple logic of programmed obsolescence. Rubbish to fight!
That price tag is rediculous. $280?!?!?! And they're designed to be stacked?? Lol how many do they think people will be buying at that price point??
cheaper than Ngrave
