Operation London Bridge: Shows Tower Bridge

The Old London Bridge stood on the Thames from 1209-1831. The New London Bridge stood on the river from 1831-1968. The London Council put the bridge on the market in 1967, an American entrepreneur, Robert McCulloch purchased it in 1968, he believed mistakenly he was buying Tower Bridge. The bridge now stands in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. London now has a” Newer” London Bridge that replaced the New Bridge. Operation London Bridge is named after this current one.

While I can see the aww factor of King Edward VIII abdicating for love, here in England it’s still seen (even 80+ years later) as a rather shocking dereliction of duty. The unspoken social contract between the royals and the country is that they are expected to put their role and sense of duty to serving the country ahead of personal feelings. This is something HRH Queen Elizabeth II has embodied for her whole reign and is one of the reasons that she is deeply respected.

His abdication was a very serious matter. He was perceived as a weak man who was pro-Nazi to the point of staying with Hilter at Berchtesgarden, his summer home - a trip not approved by the Royal Family. A lot of historical documentation was suppressed and later released. However, at the time the problem was all about the fact that Wallis Simpson's 2nd ex-husband was still alive and as Edward was Head of the Anglican Church (Supreme Governor of the Church of England) he could not marry her and remain King. She could have remained as his mistress, but marriage was never possible.

After Edward abdicated him and Wallace visited Hitler in the Eagles Nest where they got on well with Hitler so much that when planning operation sealion Hitler made the decision to put Edward back on throne after the conquest of Britain as his man. He's got a bullet in his arm from a farm accident, has basically been unable to walk for 20 years because the discs in his spine are crumbling, he's had part of his bowel removed because of cancer (5 years ago and there was about an 80% chance he wouldn't live), he's got heart disease and yet he's still going! His parents lived to a decent age too and most of his brothers died in their 80s. I think that's good genetics!
My Nana died last year (we had her funeral the 1st week of covid lockdown 1) and she was 94. What finally got her was a combination of old age and heart disease. She'd worked on the farm as a land girl during the war (where she met my Grandpop) and then was a farmer's wife (so doing a lot of physical stuff!) until she was 51 when my Grandpop moved (she was older). One of her sisters is still alive (I think she's 90 this year) and has a husband the same age.
I know there's been a few others around the same age in that side of my family (and friends they've had in their area) and I can promise you that none of the people involved in any of this are even remotely wealthy and have all had very manual jobs and hard labour. I actually think it may be that which helped as they've build up healthy bodies by being active as opposed to someone sitting at a desk indoors all day. @@katpalmer8713 well done to your grandfarther 👍. And yes I understand genetics play a huge part. But lifestyle is also incredibly important. For every person who lives a hard life and a long one there are a lot more who die early. That's why life expectancy is so much higher now than it was 100 years ago. When fresh fruit and veg were scarce long hours were the norm. Obviously medical advancements play a part too. But if you took twins and had one work in coal mine for 70 hours a week have a limited diet little fresh air lots of stress then gave the other millions the best health care and cooks to prepare the best foods. the second one would live longer. But yes you can also be genetically gifted and go through hell and live to 90. But those people tend to be the exception to the rule farmers btw are known for having long life expectancy. If I remember correctly fresh food , fresh air and for some reason early mornings are all said to help.

Regarding the change of inheritance, they didn't switch, they just made male and female heirs completely equal in succession, previously it was male-preference primogeniture but now it's absolute primogeniture.
If you think of it this way, if Princess Elizabeth and Princess Anne had had a younger brother when King George VI died, the younger brother would have been first in line.
Now with this new change, Princess Charlotte is currently 4th in line for the throne and her younger brother Prince Louis is 5th, without this change in law Louis would have been 4th in line and Charlotte would have been 5th despite being older.

The Royal family generally live to an old age, some will say to greater health care and some will say way of life, either way most people don't see two monarch's die and so also two coronations which adds to the reverence to a degree. Great review 👍👍👏👏

London Bridge was opened in 1831 by King William IV. In 1967, the bridge was bought by Robert P. McCulloch and transported to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The 'Arizona bridge' is a reinforced concrete structure clad in the original masonry of the 1830s bridge. McCulloch had exterior granite blocks from the original bridge numbered and transported to the United States to construct the present bridge in Lake Havasu City, a planned community he established in 1964 on the shore of Lake Havasu. The bridge was completed in 1971 (along with a canal), and links an island in the Colorado River with the main part of Lake Havasu City. The "rededication" of the 'London Bridge' took place on October 10, 1971.

The code names for the deaths of either the ruling monarch or member of the royal family have been used since death of the Queen’s father HM King George VI - the code name for his death was ‘Hyde Park Corner’; it’s also mentioned in the Netflix show : The Crown. I do feel sorry for King George VI as he was never meant to have become king; not only that, he was just 56 when he died in 1952 from complications of Lung Cancer as he had been a heavy smoker. As a result of this he had one of his lungs removed in September 1951 to ensure that a malignant tumour, which had been found in his lungs could not spread + he also suffered from Arteriosclerosis (the thickening/hardening of the walls of the arteries), Buerger Disease (the recurring inflammation and clotting of the veins/arteries of the hands feet) - which had been exacerbated by the heavy smoking.
Also, the code names for the royal family in event of their deaths are:
    - Operation Fourth Bridge for the eventuality of the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
    - Operation Menai Bridge for the eventual death of the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles
other code names used have been:
    - Operation Tay Bridge for the death of the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth (the queens mum) in 2002
I hope you find this information useful and helpful to your understanding of the royal family and history
    InnocentAmerican 😁👍

"Technically" The Queen has more in common with your President than the Prime Minister in that she is the Head of State as the executive. The Prime Minister is part of the executive branch and in practical terms acts like the Presidential branch you have though of course.

When Princess Diana died (yeah I know she wasn't a princess) they had to rush a funeral, and so used Operation Tay Bridge. That was the Queen Mother's funeral plan. All these plans are rehearsed regularly so it goes off without a hitch and that the timing is exact.

It’s a amazing comedy and musical show aimed at British kids that is incredibly historically accurate. Lot of British history and history from all around the world. Informative, funny and songs that will get stuck in your head.

Regarding the value of the Crown Jewels. It's basically impossible to determine due to historical significance (several pieces date to the mid-1600s), but overall it would be billions. The sceptre alone include a 530ct diamond that is valued at around $525.
Also, there are several additional elements of the jewels not pictured here: a jewelled sword, additional crowns, various rings, vestments, gold trumpets, even a gold altar dish. The total collection has 142 pieces and over 23 thousand gem stones.
