    Inspection camera for phone: amzn.to/3yCimym
    Lettering brushes I use: amzn.to/3EwzFVf

    After Thoughts about the Video: The pulley on the gas motor is way too small but that can be a good thing as this will put fewer "miles" on the pump. The Quincy pump on this is rated to run 400-1000rpm with the highest also being the fastest cycle/pump up time. I would have swapped the pulley but it appears to be rust welded pretty good. Future me will have to worry about that one.
    Quincy 210-1 rated for 400-1000rpm 2.82 to 6.34 CFM at 100psi

    Good OLD stuff! And a flat head Briggs will ALWAYS run eventually if i's not exploded. IF you ever run into a Briggs gas tank with pinholes, get a tube of Seal-all from the Dollar store or hardware or parts place and after cleaning the tank and blowing it out, just squeeze a blob out where the holes are and let it set a while. That's all it takes and a blob will level itself out and that's it. No more leakages. I've used that on several Briggs tanks and nary a drop of ethanol gas has emerged from foresaid cavity. Sorry things are so bad that Ginger had to go work part time but maybe you'll get her employee discount. FINE compressor and it'll come in handy, NO doubt! BLESSINGS, Pal!

    When you fix the old things the new ones are not needed. Tinkering is the best part of any repair shop. I liked the newer color. I didn't like the original. I was ready to give a compressor to my brother, but for some reason, he couldn't make it work, even though it worked fine for me, and since then he has bought three other NEW ones. I'm still using the old one and it works fine. I added a water filter trap and a new hose and the old one still works like the day I bought it 15 years ago. The real maintenance on a compressor is draining it every day to stop condensation on the bottom from building up and making it rust inside and leaving the valve open until its next use.
    Bring 'em back to life if at all possible. If not that scrap steel can be used in other projects. I'll be turning an old worn-out 100 gal. propane tank into a yard roller once I can get the top valve to break free and I am using old bed rails for the tow bar attached to pillow bearings.
    *If you have a solution to remove the top of that tank other than cutting it off I would take any advice on that*. I could use a plasma cutting torch, but am trying to avoid destroying it for a future application. For safety, I will fill the tank with water to purge what may be gasses left in there, but the valve has been open for months, so I don't anticipate an issue with residuals.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  Год назад

      Hey Thanks. Propane is heavier than air so it will always settle, so storing it upside down will eventually drain it. Those valves can be a bear to unscrew as I think the sealant acts like a loctite. Heating the valve and then twisting them seams to work.

    Have one since the 70's built in 1969. It came with a 3 hp electric. I ran a 7 hp gas on it and used it for drywall texture work for years. I now have a 5 hp electric using it in my work shop. It like you explained it's a continuous run compressor designed for painting cars. I deleted the continuous run system, installed a regulator so it will cycle on and off and have used it in my shop for 35 years. I ran a 4 1/2" pulley on the gas and am currently running a 3 1/4" pully on the electric motor with a 125lbs shut-off. Good job!

    Quincy unloader system will not let the compressor pump without the compressor having oil pressure. That’s why the air circuit is tied into the oil pump. If you lose oil pressure, the oil switch opens and it will unload the same way as it hitting its setpoint pressure. It’s also a semi soft start so when first starting, the compressor free wheels until the oil pressure builds.
    The actual unloader on the head puts air pressure on top of a diaphragm that pushes down a piston to hold the spring loaded suction valves open.
    I rebuild Quincy comps for breathing air applications. Feel free to ask any questions.

    100% in agreement about spark plugs & oil change. I bough a a head for a Ford Escort years back from a junk yard that had plugs in it. It was the first time changing an auto engine head. It started & ran great. I was getting 27 MPG town/hwy driving & I just did not get to changing the plugs.. My brother-in-law had nothing but criticism, "You did not change the plugs???" I would have changed the plugs but with 27mpg, new plugs why? That is what I was getting when the car was new. In my Trash or Treasure series, I do not change the oil unless/until I get them started.
    It goes without say, another big 👍

      I stopped buying plugs for small engines almost 15 years ago and have only come across 1 that was cracked and needed a swap for a different old plug (I had a used one for it laying around). My savings has to be in the $1000s by now. Most of that are pushing $4-5 a plug now. For cars I only swap if they are hard to reach and or Platinum/ iridium as you can't see the condition of the electrode. I actually started putting only copper plugs in my cars as you can clean them whenever and also see the condition instantly by looking at them. I find a get better gas mileage with the copper plugs and being cleaned occasionally versus putting in 100,000 mi Platinum and never touching it.

    That blue and white reminds me of vintage ford tractors from the same era. That's a great collection of vintage American tools you've got there, I've noticed here in the UK in recent years more and more people are recognising the value in old tools and machinery and that is being reflected in the prices and they aren't ending back up on the market so my guess is most of the people who are buying them are buying them fixing them up and using them or using them for spares. Nice bit of sign writing btw!!

    • @MaxGiganteum
      @MaxGiganteum Год назад

      My take on people scooping up and using vintage tools is that new tool prices have risen a lot... and when you couple that with the quality of brand new tools being in the poor quality range, it makes sense to put some time, effort and a little bit of money into the vintage tools. Especially so when you consider their continued durability. Peace & good vibes! 👍🏻👨🏻‍🏭🇺🇸

There's an amazing amount of people who have zero clue that the old rusty tank on their air compressor is shaping up to be a bomb one day. Just got done rescuing an older 26gal CH (maybe the last real US made model?) and now on to an '86 Toro riding mower. This week I'm finishing up a full carbon clutch disc for it. Very unusual clutch/transmission as there are no parts or even aftermarket replacements for an actual friction plate clutch system for a riding mower (if it fails, the closest thing I found were 9" tractor disc brake liner kits). Probably overkill, but it's what I know how to do, and it'll be the last clutch disc it will ever need. 😁

    I've owned many of those small Quincy single stage compressors over the years. They will run forever. The only thing I ahve ever seen go wrong with these is, if they have been run continuously for years and years the valves and the head will get coked up. A quick cleaning is all it takes to get them going again for another half century or more. I have two of those Lo-Boys right now, both are electric (and green). One has a 1HP motor and the other 1 1/2. What broke off the bottom of the tank was not a foot but rather a little wheel. The foot's just as good I guess. You did a nice job with this one and it should last you a long time.

    Nice restoration, that engine is off a snowblower because it has the auxiliary shaft to drive the wheels.

      This particular engine would be from a tiller. The snowblower versions would have different sheet metal for cold weather operation.

    I love how you just repair something so it’s presentable and useable.
    I was brought up with the villiers engines and then the legendary Honda gx engines.
    We had some briggs and Stratton engines but parts were few and far between here in UK.

    I like those carbs with the plunger chokes. I have one on an old generator. You lucked out having a Quincy. Accessible repair kits. I am trying to find a kit for a Kargard.

    I always find your videos informative and entertaining. This one was great. Loved the Home Depot and Lowes employee bit. Especially enjoyed your caution sign safety tip.
    By the way i bought an old AC welder that needs repair. Your video inspired me. Now just have to repair it. It is a Miller Thunderbolt 225. I had no idea that they were so heavy. It came with ground and welding cables. I paid $50 Canadian about $36 American. The out side of the welder seems OK for its age but the shunt block that controls the amperage is seized. Have you worked on one of these? Any works of wisdom? if it doesn't work out I think I probably can recoup my investment in scrap.

      Can't go wrong for that price. I haven't worked directly with that welder. The cables and cords are always worth it and resale easily for top dollar so don't scrap those.
