LOAB is like black paint when mixed with other paints. A single drop of black paint can drastically change the hue of other paints. You have to be very careful with how much you add.
A single drop of black paint into a pool of white will turn it grey. Equal parts of white and black just makes black though.
That’s what LOAB is to me: concentrated corruption. Even mentioning LOAB will bring her forth.
Loab inadvertently becomes the patron saint of artists by corrupting every ai generation and making people wary to use it at all.
AI images with Loab tend to turn out horror themed because the image of a conventionally unattractive woman (signs of old age, skin conditions, deformations of the face etc) is most often seen on the horror themed art of actual artists. I haven't seen anyone who would paint or draw a highly detailed image of a person with an unappealing face for any other theme. And I assume the AI haven't either. That's my answer at least.

I agree with this interpretation on some level. Between the fact that an extremely average face (like, typical for what you’d expect to see on reality TV) is what keeps surviving all these generations of images and the way that the imagery in general is replicating pieces of horror art in random ways (Loab holding the head of a baby in a public bathroom is also holding a knife at waist level 10:52 - except that the knife is just a weird shiny arc floating in the air, attached to nothing), what I’m ultimately left with is the sense that there’s a disturbing layer caked on top of some pretty basic image generation.
Most of the imagery looks like fanart of Hereditary, Basket Case, or Rob Zombie movies. A lot of it is only horrifying in the way that it looks like photorealistic political cartoons.
The uncanny valley isn’t a comfy place, but it’s not that crazy, I guess is what I’m getting at

Edit Correction: despite coming from the same source (Voudon) Lwa and Elegua are considered different deities despite sharing many of the same parallels and reflect characteristics of eachother.

This reminds me of the legend of "boxcar Joe, the magic hobo" a recurring procedurally generated TTRPG player character who showed up in a bunch of different campaigns using different systems.
Ai should be a harmless tool, but even a simple old hammer can be used to harm others. I'm still baffled by how ignorant some Ai stans are of the difference between the changes printing brought and AI that could dewan generations worth of mediocre art and mass produced shit.

Honestly, and I don't mean to disparage anyone, but this honestly feels like a creepypasta. Stuff such as us not being told what AI & also the fact that we don't actually have much proof that these weren't cherry picked. 4:47 To clarify because this sounded similar to a common bit of misinfo, but image generators don't store and paste aspects of images. They're trained to replicate it themselves so any signatures you see is an algorithm's _recreation_ -of stolen copyrighted artwork that only happened to visual artists because the companies knew they could get away with it-

Loab spelled backwards is Baol (strikingly similar to Ba'al). I put "Baol" into my Google Translate app and it came up with the translation 'danger' in Irish (I didn't even know Irish was a language; I thought it was just English but apparently there are distinctions). I thought that was interesting.

I am going to share this video, because clearly part of what is happening here is a feedback loop, as a function of a 'learning' AI. The more LOABs are produced, the more LOABs are produced. So the more this story spreads, the more people wanting to freak themselves out will prompt the AI for LOAB directly. The internet could break the algorithm and make replacing humans with AI impossible.
The AI doesn't learn learn thing thing on the go and it doesn't search the internet though. You have to provide it with a prepared data set to train.

Freaked out people put in requests for the pattern that freaks them out, which further defines & strengthens the pattern, teaching the software that this is the desired pattern, increasing the production of this pattern even when it's not requested. And then it gets requested even more. In response to people repeatedly using a particular path, wearing on the grass to make a visible pathway, the machine responds by putting gravel on the path, which means people use that path even more, so the machine paves the path, which means people use that path even more. The machine is programmed to create paths to get people where they want to go, & the input is instructing it that this is the desired path. It is only doing what it has been programmed to do, & users are reinforcing an error, making the error eventually the default result.

We’ve kinda went back to what sprint was doing with the internal sims, but I’m going off on the path. I get it, the user was not asking for an opposite either, but rather to remove or refine an asset. Once it gave that result, they continued to use the original and only editing certain parameters that would continue to put out images containing her. So for example if you asked for rain and it showed static, you put -1 and it may show a pond.
Consider : Horror movie where Loab keeps manifesting in all images, slowly leaking into the reality of the film since it is itself just pictures

So I have an art friend who is very very well read and researched on this stuff (due to it potentially threatening our livelihoods lol) and he just outright told me it was fake (thank god). With how it works it isn’t something that could be basically conjured and spread throughout other images or generations.
I brought up the story and I wouldn’t say the thing’s name out of personal superstition (say/give it a name, give it power stuff) and he nicely shut down all that. Thank Christ.

This, and many other stories of disturbing AI behavior, remind me of a concept, suggested by Slavoj Zizek. Ideology does not necessarily need anyone to believe it. It simply needs a belief that someone else believes it. His example was a Israeli prime minister whose justification for Israeli imperialism was specifically religious, despite the fact that she was herself an atheist. But, when this contradiction was brought up to her, she responded that “the Jewish people believe it.” And this is something fascinating that AI can reproduce horrific ideas, not possessed by the creators, simply through the synthesis of big data. Essentially, we’ve managed to find a way to create ideology that no one even needs to believe is believe
That’s interesting because I’ve heard something similar. Say an entire nation believes they can tell the future by examining smoke sacrifices. They all March to war because of the smoke saying they will be victorious. It really dose t matter to the Defeated that the smoke signals were not “real” the warriors believed it and they came.

There's an article on Glitches as Sublime in Animated Landscape that I think is relevant here. The writer argues that computers operate a form of algorithmic computational writing on a level removed from human writing production (where fractions of a second are meaningful units and 1000000000001 is substantially different from 1000000000002). Usually, they argue computer UIs are designed to hide this activity behind a slower consistent frame, but glitches rather than demonstrating failure, pull that frame away and demonstrate the actual work the computer is doing.
Loab here probably makes a good glitch, showing the way the information is being sorted and possibly the bias put in towards a particular artstyle and to faces (in an effort to get the AI to produce things deemed artistic). Hence why she's hard to get rid of. She's incredibly consistent face, considered to be a single unit where every part needs every other, so when the AI latches onto her, it finishes the piece (to borrow the posters idea there, I don't know how this given AI stories its images and possible no one does, given the nature of learning algorithms).

this could actually be spun into a good horror script by the right writer: perhaps this woman, loab, keeps appearing in photos where she wasn't present, looking mutilated and mangled in different ways. a person or people who keep finding her in the photos search tirelessly to find someone who recognizes her, and when they finally do, it's revealed she was brutally murdered decades earlier.
This will happen and won’t do it justice.
This phenomenon is more interesting, scary and thought provoking than what I think we can replicate.

I hate to be a “horror hard man”, as was referenced in a past video, but these things just don’t scare me. It’s AI generated imagery. It’s indeterminate non-descript chunks of matter that looks vaguely flesh like. Nothing “real”. Creating a visceral reaction through lumps of color, resembling gore, with nothing to actually be afraid of.
Ai is still in the uncanny valley. All of its imagery are basically dreams with no concrete understanding of reality.
Im past 24hrs with no sleep. So I hope im not rambling too much.

Well, someone did suggest that there's a possibility it may not be grabbing (ie. stealing) pre-existing art across the internet for some of these. But instead real life images of gore for reference. So make of that what you will.

Also, I got so excited when I saw this video notification. I'm also really into the Loab story and I've even tried going to some free AI sites and I attempted typing in just "Loab" or "Loab sitting on a chair" plus other prompts and at least the 2 free ones I've tried that on didn't give me much of anything. That's probably why they're free, they're super and the results always look like a garbled mess lol.
You're also right in saying it didn't get covered much on RUclips. There's like maybe 4 videos on Loab and 1 is "debunking" Loab. I looked up more videos when I 1st found out about Loab shortly after the Twitter thread blew up and I was hooked onto the idea of Loab. She absolutely fascinates me to no end. As for the copyright legality of AI art mentioned towards the end, I really really wish the conversation these journalists and whatnot would be having is less "can you legally claim the art generated by an AI because the AI made it and not the person using the AI" and more about how the art generated is likely a composite of potentially thousands of sampled (or stolen, if you prefer) bits from pre-existing art from any number of separate artists just randomly picked and not sourced, thus meaning any one piece of AI art should be a nightmare of uncredited work that has yet to be (and likely never will be) properly attributed to ALL respective artists.
It really should be too much of an ownership dispute nightmare to allow any one person to claim copyright.

I think the reason for how specific and consistent the Crungus outputs are is simple: overfitting
Crungus is neither an english word nor a common name, so the models are unlikely to be trained on a substantial amount of data marked as Crungus. That said, it’s probably in there a couple times, so the model is overfitted, and produces output similar to its Crungus input

I feel like because of how Loab was generated, as a sort of double opposite of the Marlon Brando and then the logo image makes her functionally the opposite of what you would want. She is everything that we don't want to see, disease, despondency and at its worst horrible inhuman violence and gore. And so even as you try to weed her out, she is more tenacious and relentless because she wants to be seen. She's like the eternal reject, in turn rejecting her own rejection. Of course, she is not real and doesn't have this agency but it's cool I don't know. It's like a mirror to what we avoid.

Clearly what's happened is we were just wrong about what the 4th dimension is. It's not time, It's chance! We occupy roughly the area in chance between a protozoa, which can process exactly one outcome, that it will move; and those people who can play like 5 chess games at a time, That's probably like a thousand or so.
