In Bharat (India), you need to enjoy the chaos everywhere, be prepared for it. You will have whole lifetime experience that you will not forget your whole life... The one who are cremated on this land at Varanasi, directly reaches Lord Shiva. You are blessed, you had touch of ashes. India is land of karma. Blessed are those who are born here on this motherland, and equally who steps here. Love all!
All those ashes you saw on different ghats were not - cremation ashes - but some kind of fire-ash left over after a ceremony......cremation happens only at specific places /ghats - all across India.......did you think we'd be burning a dead body anywhere ?
The ash he applied on your forehead was not human ash. It was from his "dhuna" (fire altar). So it was basically firewood ash.
