  • For the first time ever, the Canadian warm weather work uniform has been reproduced by a good friend of mine. This is the uniform that was worn by the Royal Rifles of Canada and Winnipeg Grenadiers, when they fought valiantly during the Battle of Hong Kong, in December of 1941. Him and I hope that these reproductions help bring some more awareness and remembrance for the sacrifices these men made, 80 years ago during the Second World War.

    Canadian uniforms have always tended to go more towards the green side. It’s evident in the battle dress, and I guess the Far East uniform too.

    How many Canadians actually went to Hong Kong in that Time Period and why didnt they just use the British Kit? Wouldn't that have been cheaper? Thanks for the great Video, cheers (eh?)

    • @TheFarOffStation
      @TheFarOffStation  3 года назад

      Just under 2,000 Canadians were sent from Canada, a battalion of the Royal Rifles of Canada, and one of the Winnipeg Grenadiers. They did not use British kit, well because, they are the Canadian Army and were arriving from there. The Canadians had their own manufacturing, and during the war, supplied the Empire with a great deal of materiel.

    5:42 I'm making an animated film on the battle of Hong Kong at the moment, unfortunately the closest thing I can get to accuracy with Lego for the Canadian infantry is tan, and even then, Lego doesn't make and legs or arms with shorts in tan. The struggle is real. :,D

    If you are looking for reproduction Canadian ammo boots What Price Glory sell some. I just purchased some a couple months ago for 2nd world war and Victorian reenacting and they are nicely made, though I replaced the leather laces that came with them which seemed to lack some quality. It's always awesome seeing someone else interested in Canadian military history (especially Pacific Theater as it's often over looked) I look forward to seeing how this kit comes along!

    • @TheFarOffStation
      @TheFarOffStation  3 года назад +1

      Those are exactly the ones I’m planning to get! Besides the leather laces, have you been happy with them?
      It’s definitely overlooked of the Canadians in the Pacific, which is a shame, because Canadian troops are some of the first troops to fight the Japanese, and to fight at all.

    • @thehistoadian
      @thehistoadian 3 года назад +1

      @@TheFarOffStation I've only worn the boots a couple times but from my experience so far I like them a lot, fit well and look good, first time I wore them out it was raining and they held up really quite well especially in the sort of wet, soggy terrain I was in. All the reviews I've heard on them from people who have used them longer then I have also appear to be positive so I have high hopes and certainly think they are a good decision. Hope this helps, cheers!
