It’s not called a tempered tang, but rather a tapered tang. And the rougher traction coating on the BK9 is there to hide the machining marks left from manufacturing process. If you ever strip this coating off you will see what I’m talking about.

Gotta love that Becker BK9. My favorites are my USA Carbon V Cold Steel Trailmasters.

I absolutely love this video. I myself as everyday carry have a Buck 119, I carry it EVERYWHERE and its been extremely useful. I also sometimes carry the Ka-bar despite people complaining about stick tang. I know its limitations.
About the Buck 124, its AMAZING. But there's a video of a gentleman not being able to stab 1 coat of Caharrt with it, but easily stab through THREE layers with no effort.
Also, wouldn't your ka-bar be rust resistant since the coating?
Nice video! you got a sub.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! The Kabar is good, but even the sharpened blade part will start to rust fast within a few hours if kept wet. The only downside to the 1095 high carbon.

None of those knives are generally considered bushcraft knives. They are survival, hunting or camp knives.

The Kabar Becker BK9, Schrade SCHF45 Leroy, are definitely Bushcraft knifes. Many videos on them crushing it! Thanks for watching!

Thank you, yes, use a knife for what a knife is meant for. Oh, and the tang on the Kabar Combat and Utility knife, is actually a tad wider then it looks like, when it goes into the butt cap. They notched the end of the tang, so the cap will fit snug. I have blueprints of the Kabar. I've had my Kabar since the early 80's, with the leather stacked handle.

Nah, my Cold Steel Trail Master San Mai III will do me just fine, thanks! It's got thicker steel, longer blade, full convex grind, laminated blade, amazing balance, and it fits my hand and feels just like a much smaller knife. Until, you start using it! Then it becomes a beast!
Strange that so many people (like you) haven't seemed to have discovered the Trail Master. I mean, it's been around for a loooong time, and still makes many Top 5 or 10 big knives lists one sees on RUclips!

Oh I have contemplated it many times - then Cold Steel sold out to another company and nobody knew if they would honor the warrantees. I still don’t know at this time, so I held off. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!

So here's my thoughts on things.
Most time's a large knife can do what a small knife can but not often can a small knife do what a large knife can. Buck 120 is on my hip every time I'm on a hike with my dog and my bushcraft/camp knife is the sp 10 Raider Bowie. Ontario knife company.
Can't go wrong, they both hold a razors edge and never run out of bullets.

My large blade philosophy is a one piece solid lump of steel 2 handles each side no cut outs of the blade as it keeps it strong and at least a half inch spine maybe 16 - 17 inch overall...

Be careful doing hardcore wood crafting with a Saber Hollow Ground Blade. And, especially, a Stainless Steel Hollow Ground Blade. Those Bucks are Hunting Knives, not Camp Knives like the BK9 is. The Ka-Bar is a Fighting Knife, not a Camp Knife. Just a suggestion. Always use the right tool for the right job... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

    • @longrider42
      @longrider42 Год назад +1

Um, pardon. The Kabar is listed as a Combat and Utility knife. At least on the box mine came in. When I bought it back in the 80's. Now I wont chop or split wood with it. But for all other camp chores, works great. Even does a good job with food prep. I have used mine a lot. I've also used my Buck 119 to carve with and make tent pegs, and feather sticks, not to mention as a camp knife. Sorry just a 61 year old adding his two cents worth.
