LIRR Forest Hills PM Rush, with Flying Yankee, plus servings of Spaghetti and Sauerkraut!! 4/27/23

- Exciting and sometimes frantic PM Rush Hour action at Forest Hills. Since ESA opened, traffic is more intense than it already was. Lots of diesels, M9’s, M7’s, and a few M3’s. You will see a number of my Engineer buddies passing by making their presence felt. This time of day, there is almost always at least 1 train visible. One must be alert with the frequent passing of 80mph trains. The position light signal bridge adds nostalgia to this fantastic trainwatching spot!! Most trains are identified.

Had a conductor yesterday that would really get along with Flying Yankee. Approaching Mets-Willets Point he opened the window and was screaming Let's Go Yankees all down the platform.

Used to be my home station. Spent a decade living in forest hills. Always a very busy section. Funny, train 860 is my train now going home. It always goes painfully slow between Woodside and Jamaica.
FYI Septa commuter rail received 2 new double deck commuter rail cars from CRRC they are a trailer and a cab control both of them were seen on a plat cars CSX were delivering them to Philadelphia

Thanks for all that Long Island action. Since I am from Philadelphia I have only ridden them several times. Since I am a horse race fan I have ridden the Belmont Park trains the most but have ridden some of the other lines as well.

Great video a lot of rush-hour Trains. here’s a question why was train 42 running in diesel mode if it came out of Penn station why didn’t it just keep running on third Rail power all the way to Babylon and switch over to Diesel mode over there if they take the Montauk branch from Jamaica Or run third rail power up to Bethpage if they were taking the Ronkonkoma line and jumping off onto the branch line between Bethpage and Babylon.
They switch over when they come out of the tunnel pretty much because they run better in diesel mode than they do in electric mode.
@@3985uprr thank you for the reply and update and info. For me I thought would’ve been better running third rail mode to save fuel and I thought electric would be more better than diesel bud I was wrong these are special locomotives that the LIRR ordered because they wanted to have their own special unique locomotive to the railroad. Hopefully the MTA orders the duel mode chargers from Siemens for the LIRR now the question is what cars will be they be pulling the C3 double deckers that they have now or order bombardiers double deckers like New Jersey transit has or get venture cars from Siemens.
Finally! I've been patiently waiting for you to do some mainline rush-hour railfanning. 😊
Some M7 “echoes” I plan on doing a couple more on LIRR and MN. I did one on Merillon Avenue recently.

Usually. I can only speak for what he does for me and a couple of my friends.
