Thanks for doing this story, I remember seeing these trucks a lot. The day shut down was announced I seen a truck on the road, wasn’t sure if he was trying to head home since the area was close to Indiana but the look on his face was sad. It’s a shame that people mess up an innocent person livelihood with personal greed and foolishness.

I was at Celadon for a while until the crap got wierd and the Sht hit the Fan. I bailed out of the company about a year before the company Shutdown for good.
Neither Finances or Freight was any Good, Management HAD NO IDEA where their trailers were and what Trailers were abandoned loaded with Freight and which ones were empty. I found several Abandoned Celadon Trailers while i was employed there that were abandoned both empty and loaded with Freight but missed their Deliveries for Months. Found a Celadon Trailer at a Georgia drop yard that was loaded with Truck Windshields that had been Abandoned and missed the Loads Delivery date over 2 months late.
Upper Management was a bunch of idiots that didn't talk to the Drivers or ANY OF THE FLOOR MANAGERS and not once kep up with where their Trailers were. Dry Van Trailers DIDN'T have any GPS trackers on them but their Refrigeration Trailers had a GPS on them no problem.
When the sht hit the fan and the flatbed side of the a company was Sold off you knew something was wrong but according to the conpany they came up with the excuse that the Freight wasn't there to keep the Division going.
The Companies Eagle Division was a complete Joke. If you were on the Eagle Lease Program, You were completely on your own. You were looked at like an Owner Op and you got your Freight from the DAT Load Boards which you sent to your DM and if your DM gave you a green light you took the load and did your own Fueling costs as well as. You were basically your own independent Trucking Company within Celadon and that's how you were looked at.
If you started feeling uncomfortable working there and you asking questions to the DMs or any of the Managers about what was going on within the Company Managers and DMs told you that everything was fine which was a complete lie to cover their own backside.
Eric Meeks was Nothing but a complete Bozo who thought that he was better than everyone else when in reality he was nothing more than a 2 faced Thief that was Stealing from Celadon and lying to cover up for him and the CFO Bobby Peavler trying to maintain their rich Lifestyle.
Jon Russell was a Scumbag and believed everything that he was told by those 2 Clowns, Eric and Bobby and never did his own homework or made any attempt to try and take his Company back at all.
I wasn't there when the Higher ups got arrested at the Company Headquarters but when I got back to the Terminal the company was a Complete mess, People were worried but was told to keep running things as normal and acted like it was going to get better when that was the farthest thing from the truth. Celadon HAD NO COMPANY Security and used the Indianapolis Police Department as their Company Security Force instead at the main building which was always there on site 24/7.
After the Company Closed and was Shutting Down I ran into Several Drivers who were left Stranded by the Company and didn't know what to do or where to go to. Most didnt know how they were going to get to their homes. The Closure was a Major mess with no one telling anyone what was going on until the Bitter end of Celadon and how things went south really fast

Hyndman Transport, wow, have not heard that name in yeeeears. I ran a MaxxFARCE engine for 2 months and was disgusted every moment having to drive that tupperware container. It broke down and I got to drive a 98/KW/550 Cat/18spd and I was in Heaven, sadly, for one day.

I happened to work for Fedex Ground in Sacramento and I remember a Celedon trailer parked in the yard less than 2 weeks before (Celedon's) shutdown. My employer receives these trailers and we load them customers' packages, then send the driver to the destination hub. The provider strictly designates that trailer head to that destination (FedEx's) prior to heading the provider's local terminal.

In case you did not know that was the second time Celadon closed there doors...around 1994 or 1995 was the first...I worked for a company [Allpoints} out of Denton that was started by the office and dispatch staff from Celedon in Denton after they closed there doors the first time. Allpoints was bought out by Fleetline out of Lancaster which was owned by Dart transit out of the cities. Allpoints was all company trucks. This was the start of Dart having company drivers. Just throwing that out there. Oh yeah Mark and Rex and all of them from Celedon that started Allpoints were awesome people.

I worked for them and when Jack Ziebarth from Zip Express came on board and started bringing all his people shady stuff started happening. So much so that I felt compelled to leave and wrote my own exit interview and gave a copy to the owners admin. Jack was steeling stuff out salvage trailers I was in charge of. I had the weekend crew point the yard cameras towards my trailers. Sure enough he shows up with a possy of people and off loaded rolls of carpeting, Piere One Pottery to name just a few. I loved Steve and what the company stood for in the beginning. Also, the blantant sexual harassment that went on was sickening. I loved some of the people but the owner lost site of what was going on and needed trust worthy employee's and was snowed by Jack and the rest of the evil doers. #ripceladontrucking
