  • Take a grouchy doctor who is annoyed by almost everything (but has a heart of gold), give him a practice in the Bronx, and you have Ted Danson's 1998 comedy that ran for six seasons on CBS. Some believe if CBS hadn't been fiddling with the time slot it might have lasted even longer. The jazzy theme, presented by request, is by Bruce Miller ('She's the Sheriff'); you can visit his website here: brucemillermusic.com
    00:00 Opening titles (original).
00:22 Opening titles (widescreen). The 16:9 version was created by cropping the top and bottom of the frame, so you actually see less than in the original.
    00:43 End credits.

I love that pixelated filter they used. Makes it feel like a music video or something.

To be fair, when Terry Farrell who played Reggie left the show, Nancy Travis was casted in the role of Chris and albeit she was good imo, most fans thought Travis didn't hold a candle to Farrell.
At the same time, CBS moved Becker to Sunday nights, which pushed the show out of the Top 50.
The final nail in the coffin however, was the leaving of Saverio Guerra as Bob and the replacement being Hector, played by Jorge Garcia.

Try telling that to fans of "Almost Perfect", the first CBS show that Travis starred in. Her comedic chops on that show were absolutely impeccable. However, I recall that her character on Becker had a more subdued personality, so perhaps it can't be compared to her earlier show and she probably was a different personality than Terry Farrell's character.

How a show that first aired on one of the strongest nights on television at the time can easily get creamed when the network (i.e., CBS) moves the show to different nights is a mystery.
The show premiered on CBS in November of 1998, replacing The Brian Benben Show.
It first aired on Mondays at 9:30pm for its first 4 seasons, usually ranking in the Top 20 and uniquely airing right after Raymond.
In the fall, despite Becker in the Top 20 (highest ranking in the ratings was #13 in its fourth season), it was usually creamed by ABC's NFL Monday Night Football.
The rest of the TV season, however, ABC usually airs movies, while Fox has Ally McBeal, UPN has Malcolm & Eddie (later Girlfriends) and others shows that can't really compete on NBC and The WB.
Unfortunately, the network made a disastrous decision to move it to Sunday night in its fifth season.
It first aired on Sundays at 9pm ET for its first 14 episodes, opposite against ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney, Fox's The Simpsons, NBC's newest show American Dreams and The WB's Charmed.
Beginning with episode 15, the show later moved a half-hour later to 9:30pm, mostly opposite against the same shows.
Due to the low ratings, CBS was going to cancel it after that season, but later gave them the green light for the 6th and final season, but only gave them 13 episodes.
It was originally supposed to be a mid-season replacement, but at the last minute, premiered it in the fall.
The final season aired on Wednesdays at 9:30pm, following The King of Queens. It was opposite against ABC's The Bachelor (and The Bachelorette), Fox's newest hit The O.C., NBC's The West Wing, and The WB's Angel.
Thankfully, the show didn't disappear completely thanks to reruns in local syndication, cable TV airings like WGN America, TBS and ReelzChannel, DVDs, streaming on Pluto TV, and currently airing on Antenna TV and Rewind TV.
