      Classism was a large issue in Britain at the time, and Liverpudlians specifically were pretty low on the class hierarchy. I'd assume it might've been because his accent was considerably strong when compared to Paul or John. That'd make more sense of this to me.

    • @0biwan77
      @0biwan77 4 года назад +4

      It’s not just the Beatles. At least one of the featured vocals is not a Beatle at all. It’s probably Gerry Marsden of Gerry and the Pacemakers, possibly Billy J Kramer. At this time when recording contracts were being signed and first albums being made, the Liverpool bands were known to help each other out in the recording studio. I know the Beatles sometimes helped out on tracks they had given away. Don’t know what they might have done on covers, such as this, which were plentiful on all their first albums. What I do know (by ear not info) is that one of the key singers in this unusual arrangement is not George.

      He certainly was, on the album Meet The Beatles it said on the cover. That not only was he the youngest but a handsome young man as well. Yet they were jealous of Pete Best because he was popular with the girls. Pete Best was the Beatle that time forgot.

      @@danielbouju1688 yes it's true Pete Best was part of Rock History. What's sad is that he didn't share in the glory along the Beatles in being famous. But of course Pete did what he had to to make it through life. He mentioned a while back and I believe on the David Letterman Show . After he left the Beatles he was with another group they were the opening act for the Beatles. When they came off the stage because now it was time for the Beatles to perform. They passed the Beatles along way and he said that they didn't acknowledge his presence. Pete Best said he always was sad about it.

    Thanks so much for sharing this track. I had no idea the Beatles covered this Bobby Vee hit. George's voice is wonderful here and it reminds me that he just didn't get enough space on the later albums. He was an excellent writer and singer. I would have loved to hear a duet with Bobby Vee singing this song. Thanks again for reminding us of how wonderful George was.

    I never heard they did a rendition of this or that it was part of their Decca audition. Just stumbled onto this post. Super glad the tapes weren't destroyed and that the sound quality is as surprisingly good as it is. Harrison sounds wonderful as always. They definitely did what they needed to do at the audition and Decca did not. But all things considered, it was a stroke of luck to get passed up. George Martin was the perfect fit for the Fab Four.
