At this time when recording contracts were being signed and first albums being made, the Liverpool bands were known to help each other out in the recording studio. I know the Beatles sometimes helped out on tracks they had given away. Don’t know what they might have done on covers, such as this, which were plentiful on all their first albums. What I do know (by ear not info) is that one of the key singers in this unusual arrangement is not George.
Having an almost lifetime experience of loving and listening to the Beatles this definitely sounds like George. Great voice, great version, best band of all time.

I booked Bobby Vee at a Corporate event in the late 80's or early 90's and found out we had the same BD. He was fantastic. Didn't realize the Greatest Band of all covered his biggest hit.

George sounded beautiful on this track! The first time I've ever heard it. Truthfully it would have been wonderful to hear him sing lead on many other Beatles' songs. The treble of his singing voice was so rich and soothing.
I never heard they did a rendition of this or that it was part of their Decca audition. Just stumbled onto this post. Super glad the tapes weren't destroyed and that the sound quality is as surprisingly good as it is. Harrison sounds wonderful as always. They definitely did what they needed to do at the audition and Decca did not. But all things considered, it was a stroke of luck to get passed up. George Martin was the perfect fit for the Fab Four.
