  • Let's set the record straight. There is no argument over the choice between peace and war, but there is only one guaranteed way you can have peace--and you can have it in the next second--surrender.

@Lou Ghee Trebuchet Patriotism is the reason you have the ability to write that comment because a group of men, and women, decided to risk everything for a place, and to protect a place, their son's sons could grow up in peace with god given rights. Patriotism is the reason Germans arent saluting a facist regime today. This same patriotism is why im willing to run into a burning building to save your American ass. I think, and will never not believe, that we, americans, believe in a collective truths that we are all free to pursue self goals, and to protect these truths i am willing to risk my life to save you because we need every man, woman and child to keep it. Also i do not believe you are just another human; no, i believe we are brothers in a tribe that have to protect and help each other. Without this collective what are we? Just a bunch of individuals looking out for individual interest. Sounds like a shitty place to me.

This is one of my favorites, but Sir Winston was a brilliant speaker too. My favorite orations were delivered to Parliament on 4 June ("We shall never surrender") and 18 June ("This was their finest hour"), 1940, and on the occasion of his 80th birthday, 30 November 1954 ("lion heart"). Depending on the actor (especially fond of Lord Olivier's version), I also love the St. Crispan's Day speech from Shakespeare's Henry V, in Act IV Scene iii 18-67. All inspiring!
