Anyone else wondering what her ex officer husband actually did while serving as a cop with the way he behaved at this trial?
He was completely inappropriate from the very start. How could he serve so long as a cop and have NO idea how to behave in a court situation?
Makes me fear for his actions that didn't have an authority figure right in front of him. He was combative even before he was on screen...

    • @donnaanderson2
      @donnaanderson2 2 года назад +37

Yes, it looks to me like he is the driving force in this whole thing. He is why she is so flustered and cant manage to articulate her thoughts. He is behind her and feeding her with what to say and most of it she knows better than to say. In my opinion its all his power trip, no one ever questions his authority or his view, and no one calls him out and says he cant do something or that he is wrong. She appears frightened and submissive to his wishes and his beliefs. My guess now would be that she is not a bad or aggressive driver but that he didnt want to deal with traffic and was prodding her and demeaning her driving and telling her to go around cars and to stop being such a pushover. Im sure he thought he could tell the officer he was a cop and that would end it. I think the officer felt for her and tried to give her a break but excop hubby would have no part of being told he was wrong.
That being said, I did go to google maps and found this exact intersection and the signs, that are there before the intersection just as the officer had said. The dashes on the roadway do disappear after the intersection that clearly shows that 2 lanes no longer exist. However, that is not enough to alert someone unfamiliar with the area to the fact that their lane is ending and they must turn right. Which is what most of us would have done, then turned around and gotten back on track. There should be a curved line making it more clear that if you are in this lane, you are going to turn right. A warning written on the pavement just yards beforehand that this lane must turn right should be added. It's just some paint and a little time from an employee to make it more clear and to avoid this problem in the future. It could someday save someone vehicle damage and or injury or a life. Small price to pay dont you think, some paint?
As for hubby, he has broken this woman's soul and she no longer has the ability to form her own opinion or voice. It's not worth it anymore, it's easier and more peaceful to go along with him. And that hurts my heart. She clearly deserves better. I may be wrong, but I would bet my last dollar Im not. And I bet she caught hell after this was all over. I bet it was all her fault, she didnt handle the car right, the officer right, the hearing right, the appeal right and now it cost him HIS hard earned money. That is the kind of cop I see in him. I wonder if the others in this case saw the same thing?

@@donnaanderson2 Sorry but common sense dictates that if you can see the lane ending and then it's gone you shouldn't keep going.
While I'm definitely not advocating for anyone to loose their life but more and more and MORE warnings are going up on everything and it's getting crazy. My garbage bags each have a warning not to close them on people, last year when my older daughter moved out I got her a toaster and it had a warning not to plug it in and put it in a bath! Where will it end? Are we going to have warnings on cracked sidewalk incase someone trips?
At some point common sense and in her case in particular years of experience have to be enough(especially given there were calls about her bad driving beforehand). We can't just wrap everyone up in bubble suits for protection.
I totally agree he is a crap head but she was the one in control of a one ton plus killing machine. It is her responsibility to drive safely weather he likes it or not or not drive at all.

Normally he'd be on the side of the prosecutor. He probably didn't have any experience being on the defense side of things. So normally he'd just show up, say whatever the prosecutor wants him to say, and he'd be done. If anyone contradicted his testimony it wouldn't matter because the prosecutor would just get it thrown out or a jury would give his testimony greater weight because they think as an officer he has some kind of training in discerning things or having good memory (neither are true). On the defense side, with an officer testifying against you, would be quite different.

I do think she's capable of asking a question, but I'm not entirely certain after that performance. She has stage fright as well of course and we shouldn't underestimate that. Even so, as you say, she is so inept that she really seems incapable of adjusting or thinking strategically.
I think she might have actually had a case with a good lawyer. Attempting to escape a road-rager is a decent excuse for impeding traffic. The lawyer could have asked the officer if he remembered her saying she was trying to escape a road rage incident, and why he didn't do anything about it, etc. But she never had a chance against this prosecutor or that cop quite frankly, they wiped the floor with her.

They basically wait until they are called on and then answer whatever they are asked until they are allowed to leave. The ones that have to know and thus could be expected be to are judges and lawyers.

If not a lawyer, why didn't he consult someone still on the force and run tt buy them? I'm sure they would have been able to explaiʼn that the ticket had no points and fighting it would be a waste of time.

She missed her chance to challenge the allegations of reckless driving earlier as prejudicial. There's more than one Windstar on the road, it may not have been hers.

Except the Officer watched her commit the infraction.

She was not charged for the reckless driving before hand. The reports of the reckless driving was the reason the officer was watching at that intersection, but not the reason for the ticket. The officer ticketed the driver for infractions that he saw.

This is exactly why having a lawyer would have been helpful. It’s clear Mrs. Hart didn’t listen, or couldn’t hear over her husband’s commentary. The Judge said evidence can be submitted during testimony. So she should have attempted to “submit” her evidence during her husband’s testimony, if she could have only figured out how to ask a question.

I wonder if they asked an attorney, and the attorney refused to take the case.

Cannot stand hearing someone say “UM” in a public setting let along a FORMAL public setting, like say a court hearing?!?
Ironically during career day in Jr HS a female police officer came & spoke to my Algebra class… She told us that when she conducted employment interviews &/or listens to presentations, the moment a they say “UM” she stops listening to them & starts counting how many times they say it.
That has ALWAYS stayed with me over the years & truly shows someone’s confidence with whatever topic they’re speaking about & their overall confidence with public speaking.
If you don’t have anything to say, SHUT UP! Don’t say “UM” just to talk & have the floor!

For the husband claiming 33 years of something with law enforcement, he certainly can’t handle himself in a courtroom. Let the person asking the question finish asking before answering.

I feel extremely bad for Ms Dehart. I don’t think that she wanted to be doing this, I feel that her husband was the one who was pushing her to fight this in court. I think his ego was hurt because when he stated he was a former cop the officer didn’t just walk away and let them go. Yet, the officer himself even stated in court he gave them a lenient charge because of that comment. I feel she was nervous and anxious because she may seriously fear her husband. Even his demeanor makes me think she has a valid reason to fear him.

I feel for her too. She has no idea how court proceedings work but she was trying her best. She was on the verge of tears the whole time and kept apologizing.

I disagree. She’s an idiot. She showed her colors when she loses her cool and asks if the officer is trying to keep her money.

We are all guessing about the relationship. I will postulate that after 30+ years the husband has learned to not correct his Karen. Karen’s know what they want.

Oh yes...always the mysterious truck whooping and hollering as they passed her.
This is what a "I watched 1.2 episodes of Matlock" law degree will get you.

Has her husband NEVER been to court?!?! I mean has she seen Judge Judy even once?!?!
This is embarrassing & it scares me that he’s a public servant & that she has a Driver’License

Seems to be a lot of 'get a lawyer' in this crowd. Please do, so you can settle out of court and not waste the court's money and time on these Hail Mary appeals.
And all this to save a couple hundred dollars and no points on her driving record?
