I disagree that the album is seen as a time capsule because almost all the points Liz makes are still very relevant

I'm guessing the narrator was talking about liz' music style at the time.

The early nineties had so many great female songwriters. Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, Bjork, Alanis Morrissette, Breeders, Sleater Kinney. Happy to see newer artists like Snail Mail emerge in a similar vein.

If pitchfork is on a kick for 90s alternative female singer songwriters (bjork, Fiona Apple, Liz Phair) PLEASE do tori Amos “little earthquakes”. I remember the album specifically as a sheet music book that taught me how to play piano.

While I appreciate Casey Rice's contributions to the album, this video's narration implies that he plays the riff on 6'1" when, in actuality, Liz is the sole guitarist for that song. In fact, Casey Rice only does guitar leads on 3 songs on the album: Never Said, Mesmerizing, and Divorce Song.

Exile in Guyville inspired all these female singersongwriters that came out later, but let's not forget about The Breeders' Last Splash. Love them both equally!

personally I enjoy the girly sound tapes the most, can't really listen to the better produced versions in the albums. There's sth about that raw sound that feels more like the essence of her music.

It's hard to live up to others expectations of you. She wanted to make more of a pop turn in her music for a time. I actually enjoy a lot of her self titled album from 2003. She's a bad ass chick, doing whatever the fuck she wants.. no matter what others say! Rock on Liz!
