main takeaway: no one hates fire emblem more than people hopelessly addicted to fire emblem also as someone who actually likes rev but also loves sacred stones this video was a wild rollercoaster, I have won rev recognition but at what cost
Btw, in RD, it is implied that the others also know about the blood contract. Jill and Zihark are recruitable by Ike's army beforehand, but if you talk to them after, their dialogue implies something has changed
Gosh, I’m so glad that youtuber Dani Doyle and her cringe fail ranking finally entered the awareness of youtuber Dani Doyle so that she can finally take her down a peg! (Sorry everyone I couldn’t resist a dumb confusing joke opportunity 😹)
Fire Emblem might be the peak video game series for “*God* is *so* close to being being good/great” it makes me feel like an ANDROID how often I say it. FE9 both-sides-ing rant: What people anywhere on the “beneficiary of” part of the spectrum of oppressive social/political/economic systems need to learn is that the only way that killing a slavemaster can be considered “wrong” is tactically. The worst it could ever be is a tactical mistake not an immoral act because slavery or any form of structural oppression is always a greater evil than any lines crossed in resisting or dismantling them.
I almost never finish fire emblem games, everytime I stop and I'm like "I really wish I could love this game, it's so good but then why is it so bad???" To this day I still don't know if I actually like fire emblem or not.
Path of radiance is among my top games if I would rank games for the first playthrough. But on replay, it drops all the way down to the bottom tier. It features the deadly combination of being slow and not having any interesting difficulties to play on. Hard mode is too easy, and maniac mode is too tedious.
It's tragic how terrible at writing IS is. So many of these games could've had good plots if anyone competent was on the writing team. FE7 is fundamentally unsalvageable tho.
A new FE9 LP? Clearly this will be the run where you only uses units that can only equip swords in combat. No doubt this will be done savestateless on Maniac Mode
because we both love pain and can’t live without it. We’re addicted to playing the game in the worst way possible and saying it’s still good despite it all
BASED. God it's so nice to finally see someone with clout acknowledge that GBA Emblem is boring as hell. Like yeah I get it, nostalgia is powerful, I started with them too and I have fond memories of playing them, but the series has grown since then. We've learned how to make games that are fun and compelling even after you get over the novelty of "my advanced wars units have funny hair and can level up". Sent from my Android, or something.
Seeing this list feels weird as someone whos fave games are echos and fe11 and actually really enjoys awakening like you can give me the most map design is my passion chapters and I'll love it as long as Im not annoyed
I kinda hate that I can't disagree with engage at number 4 because dear lord that game's story pisses me off, but the gameplay is so much better than nearly everything below it I think it has to go there
Fair enough! I don't really mind the story (until the last 6 maps or so where it nosedives hard) but I know that's not the most common take, and I can see why others would dislike it more than me.
@@DaniDoyle It has the same problem I have with the story in a lot of yakuza games, where everything that happens feels so contrived and not at all like a natural progression of the story. People being like "oh no I dropped the ring" and then just fucking walking away has the same energy as leaving a loaded gun next to a guy you just beat up. Binding blade and conquest at the top is unfathomably based as well.
@docspangle ok but in Yakuza its epic because of how funny it is. You get scenes of the most bizarre thinfa happening like gaint bears attacking or mafia made entirely of men in diapers and these grizzled criminals just act like this is normal, but in engage it's just kinda lowkey annoying idk why tho.
@@DaniDoyle oh nah the goofy scenes are awesome in yakuza, I just get irritated when during serious scenes they leave a gun next to a criminal mastermind and oh no! innocent side character gets shot! Its too bad there was no way to prevent this! This exact scenario happens about 6 times its actually insane. And I'm still a yakuza fan somehow
Hell yeah, Engage being recognized as the PEAK it is!! By the way, are you plannning to do a commmunity emblem rings tier list once the units are done?
This is the most contrarian FE tier list I have ever seen and I love it. Especially FE6 in high tier. Objectively I think that game is just a terrible RNG casino with needlessly huge maps, but it's one of my favorites and I emotionally need more people to put it higher than it deserves.
I'm mad on 3H in B tier. Well, i replayed 3H twice this year. Fast draft run normal mode is boring. But maddening NG+ is playable. You can use the good tools like gambits and combat arts without worrying about getting the basic maddening setup like the blow skills, hit+20 etc and without doing monastery chores optimally to unlock professor rank early. Just dont unlock everything in ch1. Having all the tools in ch1 made the early game very easy. And also FE6, conquest and engage, at the highest tier. Nice. They are the games I replay the most. Conquest is so much fun when you understand the game. I loved my last run that I planned a Meme Selena build
I agree, now as someone who’s in the world of rom hacked FE, the vanilla GBA games just feel so Bland, like I still love them cuz nostalgia but like Rom hacks are the way to go
I'd say that most romhacks I've played are just straight-up better than the majority of mainline games. If I had to make a tierlist, Drums of War would be firmly two tiers above every other Fire Emblem I've played.
I really wish I could get behind the Binding Blade love. Unfortunately, while I like the characters and appreciate what it was trying to do in terms of challenge, I just found it incredibly tedious and stressful, especially on a run that aims for the true ending. That map size mixed with all the stuff the game throws at you is just too much. I only started Conquest recently, but I've found its puzzle-like approach to difficulty much more entertaining and interesting to figure out (leaving the nonsensical story aside). Agree that PoR has a problem with long enemy phases and the both-sides-ism, but I just like the characters, several individual moments and the basic gameplay too much to knock it down like so. Same for the other FE games I've played (7, 8, 15, though I'll agree 7 is by a considerable amount the least entertaining of them).
FE6’s stress and jank is part of what makes it so great. I realized on a hard mode iron man where I lost 26/52 characters that this was the greatest Fire Emblem game of all time. It’s just an insane experience, but not in a total bs way like something like FE5. Plus the unit design (like their stats and gameplay role and such) is genuinely peak. That’s just me tho.
@pksprite6401 I understand that's part of the appeal, it's just that's more stress than it's worth for me. I've said before that all games have their poison and it's a matter of picking what you're willing to put up with. As such, while I ultimately have a strong aversion to much of FE6 (and I suspect I will feel the same about FE5 when I finish it), I do send more power to you and all those who enjoy it.
Since I only started diving into FE as a series last month, I can't comment on most of the game placements, BUT I just wanna start by saying you and your videos got me into the rest of Fire Emblem after years of not playing anything past Awakening! I've been fixated on and obsessed with it so intensely that in this past month I finished FE8, FE7 (Lyn and Eliwood Hard; Hector Normal), and Three Houses (Crimson Flowers), and am now halfway through FE6. I also started separate playthroughs for FE1, Fates, SoV, and Engage, and a new run of FE8 on Difficult. Admittedly, I don't play on the hardest difficulties and I savescum but it's been some of the most personally fun gaming I've done in ages. Thanks for inspiring me to play through this accursed, fascinating lil series!! For all its flaws, the games are all at least fun to an acceptable degree, and they all have SOMETHING to discuss, usually extensively and/or fiercely, and for better or worse that's very entertaining to me. Quick Placement thoughts on the ones i've played a lot of: Love seeing FE6 that high, it's probably the most solid of the GBA trilogy IMO and that's before finishing it. Ambush reinforcement spawns can go away but that was my biggest issue with it. Otherwise its challenge level is just right for me, and I enjoy this roster the most in terms of gameplay options. I agree with the thoughts behind FE8's original and current placement cus it IS comfort food that can be easy to a fault (even without using Seth), but currently putting it NEXT to Three Houses is interesting. I'd probably put FE8 above 3H personally but it's purely due to a difference in what I want out of Fire Emblem gameplay. Writing-wise 3H still has most of the games beat, and that balances it out for me. I'm part of the masses that enjoy FE7 but I do think it's the one I'd least enjoy replaying of the GBA games. I'm not generally a fan of the type of challenge it throws out but I enjoy the variety of chapters regardless. I also think Lyn mode shouldn't be ignored and I played it before running through both other modes (mostly so I could have Lyn and Florina be useful, admittedly).
Revelations top 10? Lets gooo! I know it has its Problems, but building my units a from chapter ~10 to the early 20s is some of the most fun I have with the series. Though I always drop it at that point and either start again or play Conquest (or maybe Engage) if I want to play more strategic like an android. Anyway, I hope you get well soon.
I was unaware stopping revelations after chapter 20 was a universal experience its nice to feel slightly less insane after I have done so more than 5 times
In all honesty, I'm just glad Engage and Binding Blade are in the top. I really love and hate Engage as my favorite Fire Emblem. I love it because it made me delve deeper into this series to games I ended up liking a lot (Thracia and Binding Blade). I also hate it for the exact same reason, in this case for Genealogy and Blazing Blade. Like, I don't think I was ever as frustrated with game mechanics and presentation as with Genealogy, while I was exgremely stoked and entertained with the weirdness of Thracia and it's completely unfair map design.
For a while i thought it was pretty funny how hard Dani is on fe7 cause i had only played Eliwood normal and thought it was fine but like eight months ago i started VERY slowly trudging my way through hector hard for about a month and i think it killed my interest in fire emblem for a long time. every chapter really found a new way to be shockingly terrible. I haven’t even finished it my save file has been sitting at cog of destiny for over half a year because my trained Florina gets two-three rounded by valkyries while she’s holding a javelin and refuses to dodge a sleep staff once
The GBA era does kinda have it’s own experimental “mechanic” in a way. Chapter clear objectives. Defend the point isn't new to GBA. Thracia has 2 of them (ch13 and ch11). GBA's once again stealing thracias homework, (just like with rescue). There is a very big difference between seize and Escape (and defend maps). For an perfect example of this, ch19 would not be possible as a seize map, although all rescue maps are significantly impacted by your inability to "freely" leave people behind, especially in a game with infinite warp.
GBA being bland is somewhat valid, but I don't think it is fair to put down the GBA games because ROM hacks implemented more features not originally present. If you were given 20 years to improve an engine, it should be expected to be superior to the original. The early GBA hacks were pretty much just FE7 clones, but often with way worse art and arguably worse maps.
I'm not penalizing GBA for not having romhacl features, I'm pointing out that the blandness is not due to limitations of the console, as is often the defense people give.
What do Rev fans like about Rev? The only time I played it I disliked it. Then again I was severely burned out on FE at the time from doing every FE in a marathon.

Radiant dawn. Has real big "first fire emblem i played" energy, but the story was kinda butts, but so is almost every FE story and that one at least doesn't have the same sort of rushed quality that 3H story has. Even with its warts and all, I just really like RD and think that even with bs like blood pact (and I would argue that there are some ways to write it out of the story and still feel convincing), I think the story's justifications for itself are interesting enough even when the allegory falls way short of what it should be
Genealogy and Thracia should be together, half of the Thracia lore is front loaded by Genealogy so that Thracia can just hop into its narrative with a clear end goal. Narratively, Genealogy and Thracia are better than Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance full stop. The Laguz And Beorc conflict always feels artificial and lacks weight compared to Sigurds tour of subjugation and its political fallout and the scapegoating by Arvis and the Loptous church
main takeaway: no one hates fire emblem more than people hopelessly addicted to fire emblem
also as someone who actually likes rev but also loves sacred stones this video was a wild rollercoaster, I have won rev recognition but at what cost

Chapter clear objectives.
FE1 was Seize/1 Kill Medeus
FE2 was Route/2 kill boss
FE3 was Seize
FE4 was Seize
FE5 was Seize/Escape/Arrive/Survive/Survive and kill boss (all but two chapters are contingent on getting Leif to a specific tile)
While FE6 is all Seize (and then Kill Idunn), FE7 and 8 use a relatively balanced mix of these objectives aside from escape. The only objectives they add that I can think of are Defend throne/green unit, and the Hector Mode exclusive “Take Three Points”

Finally! Someone who shares my takes on PoR!
I played it as my second Fire Emblem game and it was sooo slow. It was also mindless and I was getting mentally checked out constantly. I dont mind either quality by itself but when combined it made for an FE game I havent revisited since my first time with it and I refuse to recommend.

Even tho i still like FE6, I gotta agree that GBA is the blandest era of the franchise, I'll take the SNES Trilogy & DS Duology and ROM Hacks any day
Honestly I don't know if you're giving rev enough credit :3
Huh no comments on engage or fe6
Genealogy and Thracia should be together, half of the Thracia lore is front loaded by Genealogy so that Thracia can just hop into its narrative with a clear end goal. Narratively, Genealogy and Thracia are better than Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance full stop. The Laguz And Beorc conflict always feels artificial and lacks weight compared to Sigurds tour of subjugation and its political fallout and the scapegoating by Arvis and the Loptous church
This is a list about my enjoyment of the games and I enjoy one a lot more than the other
Favorite? FE 11
Based fe7 in the last tier
Revelation being B tier isn't what makes me unsubscribe. Calling Thracia good is what makes me unsubscribe.
