I feel well taken back to my childhood. I'm 3 months and a week to 40. Couldn't be any prouder to even live from just a decade and a half before then and see in the Millennium. Today, I'm marking what happened 2 and 3 decades ago. 😢
Excellent compilation, well done. Unlike today’s wimpy BBC news beeps, proper sobering signature tunes, rather as if the music was saying SIT UP AND LISTEN because THIS AFFECTS YOU! Does anyone else think the sequence at 0:28 is reminiscent of Fourscore ?
Unsure about foreshore. I found this article online: Instead of managing files and folders, forScore lets you search, sort, and browse through your collection using metadata like composer, genre, and key.
To me as someone who grew up with the pips, these themes just sound like any news station anywhere. Adding the pips from the radio into the news intro, and the electronic instruments and slow build up for the extended version for the News 24 countdown on digital, is just iconic, and given it's referencing BBC radio with the pips, there's no other station that theme could work on.
4:30 is the GOAT for me, but all of George Fenton's creations were stellar! Unlike the dross banging of saucepans that we've had to endure for the last 25 years.
There was simply no reason to ditch any of it in my opinion, but losing the 9 o clock news music in particular was sad. Replace all this musical finery with soulless beeps was just criminal.
I always remember thinking how beautiful the glass effect "wall" was in this.

The Last Truly Golden Age for BBC News Music!
Exactly ❤❤❤❤❤.
I was between the ages of 23 and 27. Remember this era well!
Even as a kid, I remember being absorbed by the headlines when this music came up. Superb stuff.
I remember these themes well, being a fresh-faced young adult in my twenties. Half a lifetime ago, as I am now aged fifty four!
I'm 15 years younger. See my own comments also.
Nine O’Clock news theme was best BBC News theme 👍🏻
Rest in peace Peter Sissons
1:58 The GOAT theme!
4:30 is the GOAT for me, but all of George Fenton's creations were stellar! Unlike the dross banging of saucepans that we've had to endure for the last 25 years.
Just simply sounds majestic
Bring them back !!!
I loved these themes - so authoritative and very BBC.
As a teen i actually believed the glass wall was real!
1:59 Cannot be beaten! Awesome
4:30 is ace too
4:30 is the one I grew up with in the 90s!
@@mezykin I remember hearing it and thinking something really bad and serious was going on. I'd sometimes hide lol. So dramatic its awesome
1:58 - Listen to that horn sounding for the Six O'Clock News, as if Genghis Khan was going to come riding into the studio on horseback
Well, if he can't get through the TARDIS doors, I would love to see that.
4:02 gets me every time !!!
There was simply no reason to ditch any of it in my opinion, but losing the 9 o clock news music in particular was sad.

These themes stopped being used in late 1999.
Only the George Fenton music
May 1999 actually!
That was when David Lowe composed the BBC’s 1, 6, and News at 9 just in time for the refresh in the same month of May. May 10th to be exact.
One O’Clock News theme was close, bit faster maybe.
The last one is the best news theme ever, it was from 1989.
