My favourite BBC news theme and ident - the powerful Drums hailing the lightning flashes of information and news coming in from across the world- evocative- depicting the almost art deco like mast representing the BBC gathering news from all for corners of the Earth and then broadcasting with power and authority to its audience- in the day when BBC News was the big trusted daddy of news. At the end of the piece the mast shows its always listening and forever monitoring - standing by for world events ready to burst into action Didn’t realise George Fenton composed the music - a great composer who wrote many a great theme tune
Oh cool, we found the part in the comments in every old upload of a tv programme where folk get weird and have zero critical thinking skills or emotional stability.
@@peterwilliamskelhorn6675 These days I think they'd avoid doing it because it gives the impression that the newsroom is closing down for the night. "Nothing left to see here" etc
How do you know all this? Are you some sort of a BBC News theme researcher? I've seen your comments all around these videos, and I was tickled to know.
@@latintvman_09 Thank you for your comment. I have had some very good connections, both within the BBC and elsewhere, over the years collected all sorts of information, this was just comment on what tracks were used at the time.
This is by far the best pre-David Lowe BBC news theme
A bit flat, the recreations were better in 1993.
It's also the best post-David Lowe theme
@@jacksugden8190 I didn't like the 1993 to 1999 versions very much. All much weaker than the previous ones in my opinion.
Entirely Agreed, this is the best news theme ever invented by man.
0:28 ''By the power of Grayskull!''
0:33 ''I HAVE THE POWER!!!''
This was really the first and only time the BBC had a news theme with the same gravitas as News at Ten on ITV.
The greatest news music ever created.
best news music ever written awsome piece of music
I like this as much as the 1993 version which is very similar to this one
I wish BBC would bring back the iconic antenna. They can polish it up a bit and make it 4K but keep it as a 2D graphic.
I well remember this era well and the theme tune. Aged between eighteen and twenty three back then, now fifty three!

I love this opening ❤❤❤
I've always liked this one the best. I love the transmitter radiating news to the nation. It has a very 1940s feel to it also.
Found this, thanks!
Ahhh childhood. We were a proud nation back then.
Apparently you will be substituted.

The studio lights go out when the closing music is playing.
+Graham Pearson they did until October 2000 when the 9pm news moved to 10pm

Hi Jack, I hope you're doing well. I'm just wanting to ask you a question, is there a website that showcases some BBC News cues from the 1980s?
Great theme this....some of the BBC news idents were fabulous. Pretty plain now, no big symphonic jobs any more.
Please can you do the same thing for the Nine O'clock News 1985 to 1988, and also 1981 to 1985.
How do you transparent this video? I want to do this with Le 19h30 by TSR (2001)
See the uploader's comment: this is an inside job
weird antenna
