Such an impressive and suitable composition for the BBC Election programme. It's British, regal, urgent, anticipatory, and conveys the gravity of the situation.
I was in Lincoln while the election was on. When the bells rang on the coverage I could hear the bells in the cathedral behind me ringing in unison. Absolute chills.
I'm French and I've been obsessed with this music for a week ! This is the greatest election theme i've heard. Thanks David Lowe, Rick Wakeman and the unknown genius who chosen this song for an election opening 45 years ago !
AMAZING! Have been looking all for this since Election Night. Those were five intense minutes I’ll never forget. The inclusion of Big Ben is a nice touch! Thank you!
The last theme was just a stock footage sandwich. I was worried they'd keep it corporate and stale forever, being too afraid to show the politicians' faces like in previous intros. This theme would've been perfect if they'd used better footage for Starmer, it's a bit weird how every other mainstream candidate had people holding signs indicating which party they supported but he didn't. Also, the clip where you slip the ballot paper into the box is literally the first thing that comes up when you search "UK voting" and looks a bit cheap.
@@mildlydispleased3221 also Reform didn’t have signs. I was more talking about the song itself rather than the visuals. But for me I think the visuals are an improvement too.
@MintiesPoopin I know Reform didn't have signs, and really it's a one-man party, so Iike the footage they used of Farage, even if I despise the man himself. I just find how it's a bit strange that they didn't use the mountain of footage with people holding Labour signs but did for every other "real" party. I think this is a massive improvement and the best election intro so far.
I’m 45 and I still can’t believe I lived to see another Labour victory on this scale, I didn’t think I would after the 2019 election. Loved the Arthur theme and this was the best opening sequence since 1992. Nothing will ever top 1992’s opening sequence, leading upto the infamous exit poll that went wrong!
Only thing I would say is caution yourself on the scale of the win. Turnout is down 11% compared to 1997. Also while Labour have a lot of MPs, a lot are based on slim majorities. They are ocean wide but pond deep. Labour need to be the govt we hope they can be to put any other option completely out of the window come 2028/29 election.
@@DazzaS83 oh yes my fear is what happened to Attlee in 1950 where his 146 seat majority was all but wiped out by a small swing back to the Conservatives.

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that you've posted this, it is a vast improvement on 2019 that really brought Arthur into the 2020s. After waiting many years to hear the 2010-2017 exit poll music and it's still not available, it is a relief to just listen and take in this music in all its glory!
The intro, the buildup, the iconic chimes of Big Ben at the end as the Exit Poll was revealed. ...this theme is absolutely stellar. David Lowe has really brought Rick Wakeman's theme to life. Adding that BBC Flair with the pips and the thunderclaps... It's fantastic!
Simply a brilliant production. Had me on the edge of my seat. It had it all, a classic riff that sends a shiver down your spine with a modernised undertone. Only thing I would improve would be the way the exit poll was announced. Missing Dimbleby dearly there.
The way that the figures are put up on screen has an effect on the way the presenter presents them. During the Dimbleby era, they'd just give you a textual headline - no numbers ("Labour landslide", "Hung parliament"/"Conservatives largest party") for a few seconds, and THEN they'd give you a breakdown of figures. In 2019, for Huw's election, they gave the headline ("Conservative majority") and two biggest parties' figures simultaneously, before then showing other parties. And in 2024 they went all-in à la ITV and Sky. The arrangement of the reveal in Dimbleby's era makes for a more dramatic announcement at the expense of details.
In my opinion the most beautiful piece of Television the BBC puts on for us every 5 years - sometimes more often - but they outdid themselves this time!
Pretty sure they timed everything -- and Big Ben's bells are pretty predictable. Of course, the actual intro segment on the results show is pre-recorded (up until 30 seconds before the exit polls).
By a country mile (as John Bercow would say) this is the best version of King Arthur for election night we've ever heard. Absolutely brilliant version, shame we watched another channel though so we could avoid Kuenssberg
Rick Wakefield definitely didn’t compose the cool parts. This song sounds incredibly old and dated. The parts from after the intro and on could definitely be argued as Lowes composition.
This is one of the best remakes of the Arthur Theme for many many years. Thanks to Rick Wakeman & an Amazing composure from David Lowe. It really is a fantastic theme for such an important event.
Who’s here listening to this epic theme tune after UK’s Labour Party completed a comeback victory against the Conservative Party government? As a US citizen I love BBC and their coverage of how global politics play a major part of the younger generation of American people who look for valid coverage of their own country. American news media has gotten worse since trump was in power from 2017-2021!
I don't like the beeps😅 Makes it sound too generic and almost the same as the normal news theme, however it's still brilliant though, if Lowe erased them for 2029(or earlier) it would be super god tier!

It's been like that since 2019.
Such an impressive and suitable composition for the BBC Election programme. It's British, regal, urgent, anticipatory, and conveys the gravity of the situation.
I love your use of the word anticipatory. Such a fine adjective to describe it!
2010 theme was better. Arthur is incredibly dated and sounds stuck in the past
@@CtO-nj9uu Bollocks! Arthur has Grown and evolved to become energetic and filmlike in a way that 2010 could never beat!
It is bizarre but wonderful that BBC News has better music than most primetime dramas.
Conversely it’s weird that BBC Drama - Line of Duty, An Inspector Calls, for example - tells the truth more often than their news operation.
Maybe the most tense 5 minutes of TV ever! Thanks so much for uploading this. I'll remember the moment when the exit poll was released forever
Maturing is realising that this is quite possibly the best news/election theme of all time. Goosebumps every time.

I've been watching election coverage since 2010 and in that time they've always had the chiming of Big Ben.
Not in 2019 however, that year they just played a recording of a single bong as Big Ben was under renovation at the time.
@@MegacooltommydeeI sit on my toilet corrected.
This theme hit's all the right notes. BBC have always had a fantastic team of musicians. Also, this is the best version of their Election theme yet.
The few minutes before 10 o'clock had me shaking. Probably the best damn iteration of Arthur the beeb have used!
Massive improvement from last election! Arguably the best theme AND buildup.
The best theme was 2010, this sounds incredibly dated and unfitting compared to the newer song they used in 2010.
