- Halo Mega Bloks was something special. Back in 2009 when Halo Wars was finally released, this toy line was a fantastic companion piece. Now, 15 years later, we have something truly special.
The first wave of Halo mega sets definitely had a very rocky start but they have truly come a very long way.
What was your first Halo Mega set?
Have you ever tried these before?

Seeing someone talk to a mainly lego audience about halo Mega construx brings so much joy to my heart! This was my first halo set and I was so fond of it that last year I rebought it and started recollecting the old set! I’ve got nearly every warthog at this point and two of these 2009 variants! They have a very nostalgic look to em when compared to the more realistic ones produced today! Keep up the good work bro, I hope you do more reviews of these sets!
Imagine my surprise when i watched GammaCompanyMark's Frigate's of the UNSC video, see your comment, then bounce to this video only to find you again.
@@rocketman561 if it’s halo related you’ll probably find me there lol, great minds think alike!
hey thanks that's nice of you to say! I definitely love the nostalgic feel of these guys and I'll keep em' coming for sure!
My first Mega set! This and the Ghost were so metal, these were sick!
I have very very vivid memories of my dad like forcing all of the pieces together for me and it staying together for like 10 seconds and then just exploding.
My older Mega sets all fell apart, so my dad had to rebuild it and glue each piece into place. Especially that Arctic Hog and the Hornet.
Promise you the new sets don't do that anymore
@@The_Local_Goose Oh yeah that I know. All my older sets were from 2009-2011 and it was a nightmare, but I know that the quality has increased exponentially.
@@Kisseyhersh123 awesome, I'm always sad when people hate on or disregard mega due to past experiences
Yea they seem like hot garbage
@@HybridBlueDream they weren't even hot garbage then but they definitely aren't nowadays
This was the first and only set I asked my mum for and after the trouble we had building it she never let me buy megablocks again
😂 that's crazy
Unfortunate, the sets are amazing now, better than lego quality for some stuff
@@The_Local_GooseI agree, but good luck trying to find some in stores.
Tragic
Omg what a throwback, I remember owning this set when I was younger.
The parts of my warthog as a kid literally did not stay together, the pieces would actually pop off of each other after 5 seconds so my mom ended up gluing it together for me 😂
I had this set as a kid and holy shit, where the wheel attaches would always come apart and fixing it required you to disassemble most of the warthog each time it came off
They re used the windscreen for this warthog on the arctic warthog, gausshog, both troop hogs, red and green and then in 2011 with EVA’s last stand they redesigned the windscreen, hood and basically everything else to make it shaped more like a warthog using more specialized pieces.
Also the holes in warthog’s tires were filled in the following year!
It was def a bad set but like 6 year old me was still happy with it. Now I have more halo mega.
I remember the unsc turret they made alongside this one. The parts on my set would fall apart just sitting there. Its like they were warped straight from the box. Great memories
Wow this takes me back... I remember the Warthogs falling apart constantly!
When i was young i never see pieces of my turret or warthog fall that easy...
So cool! Love seeing these older sets!
I remember getting this set when I was 8 and my mom bumped into something it fell from the top shelf I had it
I actually have my forward onto dawn set from ten years ago, I lost the wings and thrusters and a few of the top covers but she’s still here in her 3 feet of glory
Throughout my childhood, I loved Star Wars and Halo. I would get both Halo Megablox and Star Wars Lego for Christmas.
I have always appreciated how different both systems are for how similar they would seem to be from the outside. As for Halo specifically, Mega made a lot of specialized molds for the series, which Lego dosen't really do as much. Specialized bricks, accessories, windows, etc made for a really good and faithful build quality with minimal piece counts.
I think the coolest set I got from Halo Megablox was a phantom. It was huge and had a really well designed shape. Quite durable and heavy! Lol.
I also like the early warthogs, although they were a little flimsy. I got a white, snow camouflaged one which was really sweet. The vehicles having suspension (even though they were simple) is just such a great play feature for driving them around. Immerses you a lot more for sure. Those classic grunts are also particularly funny.
Unfortunately some of the newer sets aren't my favourite. However, I would'nt say it's because Mega made bad quality stuff! The change in Halo's art style with 4 isn't really appealing to me, and so the sets that came out (which were really well representative of the style) *also* weren't appealing to me.
I should probably check out the Infinite sets, because I like its art style way more! Thanks for reminding me :)
Good video
I honestly love the turret design we see here and in the og Aerial Ambush set. I'd love it if they could revisit it and put it in some battle pack or something.
Btw, the chain gun is built slightly in correctly. It isn't supposed to have that rod section in the middle. That was introduced on later designs.
Hear me out chain on the passenger side of the warthog and the covenant turret mounted in the back.
I see you savage
I remember those SMG and Shotgun buttstocks were so big you couldn't have your mini figures hold them in a natural position. Thankfully when the ODST mini figures were released with suppressed SMGs they redesigned the un-suppressed SMG and the Shotgun.
my first mega set that got me into halo and into xbox
i do not remember those pieces being attached to the bottom swivel of the turret but rather it just having the swivel attached to the bed so the figure could use it properly.
The memorys of this set😱
I thought my set was the problem, now I see everyone had this issue
I remember these, i never got this one specifically but i got a lot of choppers and that red troop carrier warthog.
That one looks awesome!
Edit: Nevermind, i thought it would have better suspension
i too remember the curse of the collapsing warthog
I remember getting it a few weeks after I first got the hornet and same it kept breaking and assumed I built it wrong but when I got the Eva last stand I swapped the wheels to that warthog and used the original wart hog body and a destroyed warthog
Yeah, early halo mega blocks (now construx) where hell to put together
My first set was the original Mongoose (that turret it came with wasn't really stable either, heh)
Great review!
Thanks for watching!
Beam* rifle, binary rifle is halo 4+5
And it’s a forerunner rifle
Would be cool if you make a pt 2 comparing to t to the modern hog like the halo show one
This was also my first ever set
had to glue that shit
Just found your channel and all I can say is phenomenal job my dude 👍
Great editing, commentary, and video work. Keep it up and i look forward to seeing more of your content!
Hey thank you that’s very nice to hear! Definitely lots more to come and always improving!
lmao this was the first one i got as a kid and this always pissed me off
Did you draw that art in the background? because if you did, that's grounds to be made fun of.
lol you may make fun of me, ill allow it
wtf I had this and it always fell apart, I thought I was alone lol
I bought some older used Megablok sets and almost every hinge was borderline useless due to wear
i had 3 of these sets sadly only one survived
Review the original halo mega scorpion tank
It sounds bad but I had to glue mine cause I returned it and got another one and it was the same good turret but the warthog kept exploding if I rolled it so I glued it and it was pretty good
Uuuuhhh you have two turrets stacked on top of each other dude, the 2009 warthog has those two blocks as the neck of the turret and a specifically modified part that sits on top of the swivel plate to attach to the machine gun, if you had the right part it would be perfect height for the Spartan to grab the machine while standing on the two jumper plates on the rear of the warthog and allow the gun to swivel up and down and side to side with the Spartan standing correctly. Good video though, please don’t take this comment as mean spirited or anything, i just want to inform you!
so this was the first megabloks set I got, and any time I tried to play with it, it fell apart, so It became the last megabloks set because of how bad it was, which is a shame because I liked their figures
The warthog turret didn't have that extension piece.
I had it, i messed with the design a lot.
Whats the best wahrthok
this thing was *not* fun to put together! the arctic version was much better somehow, but they really only got it right when they started doing the Halo 4 style ones.
Built turret wrong you put the extra skinny poll not supposed to be there
darn, guess I didn't have all the pieces since it broke so many times...
Honestly, it's completely unacceptable how shitty the original mega bloks Halo sets were. The pieces would never stick together and when they did, the actual building techniques were so bizarre that I don't know how the thing stayed together
"The Halo Set That Always Fell Apart" you mean all of them?
Ah look an idiot
Bro, I get making mistakes and stuff, but your Halo and Mega knowledge hurts sometimes. For a good few years Mega Warthogs had this basic "suspension" and it's changed a lot to reach the very new design we have now. Also, the Elite came with a beam rifle, not a binary rifle. I get it's nitpicky, I just notice stuff like this in every one of your videos
You are right. I obviously know it is a beam rifle but sometimes words get jumbled when I am working on these so often. I actually own nearly every halo mega set, have been collecting since 2009 and know what I’m talking about. Some warthogs have this suspension yes, but typically we see newer styles of suspension with different pieces used in order to achieve it.
My goal is to cater to fans who both have an extensive knowledge of halo mega and don’t. I do let things slip through the cracks sometimes and try to continually improve. I appreciate the feedback
Feedback? That was a complete nothing burger, a very harsh nothing burger.
You have an image to uphold, I understand that, but you don't have to pretend that this level of nitpickery is valid criticism of you or your channel.
@@MrWoodyShorts Oh damn, nice to hear about your collection. Good to know lol, my bad
