  • Join me for a little chat about a fascinating documentary!
Is Ruth Paine an innocent Quaker woman who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, or was she a government agent who played a strategic role in the JFK assassination?
The assassination of JFK holds an abiding place in the heart of Americans, and more than 60 years later, the questions linger. This documentary by Max Good focuses in on one personality- Mrs. Ruth Paine, wife of Michael Paine - and considers questions like:
    Who is Ruth Paine?
What was her role in the lives of Lee Harvey and Marina Oswald?
What are her affiliations and connections?
What actions did she take that make people suspicious that there's more to the story?
Why do people think she may have been a government agent, sent to "babysit" the Oswalds during a critical season?, and
"Where is she now?" - a real-time look at this fascinating woman who was 90 at the time of this documentary
I anticipate that we will divide this 1 hour, 40 minute documentary into three chatty discussions. Please add your insights and questions in the comments!
Watch and/or purchase "The Assassination and Mrs. Paine" here: amzn.to/4dweK3n
Come back, to discuss the documentary and these questions together, for the following three episodes!

This is fascinating. This has reminded me of something I watched a number of years ago about Oswald’s last phone call from prison and the two men who stopped him from getting through to the man he was supposed to contact. The amount of intrigue and the number of people connected to exposing truth who mysteriously died underscores that it was not a one man and done case. Thanks, Jess. Looking forward to this discussion.

.....Oswald tried to call two numbers from the jail, but, the phone operators were told by " agents" NOT to connect the calls. One of the operators wrote down the numbers and kept the paper. The first call was to a retired Army sergeant named John Hurt in North Carolina, not far from a CIA training base, where Hurt may have been an instructor. The second number was incomplete...missing a couple of digits, but, known to be located in a wealthy section of North Dallas. Obviously, Oswald was reaching out for help from his CIA " cut out" handler, and, someone who may have financed and run the operation he was caught up in....he KNEW he was framed.... he actually SAID so !! : " I'm just a PATSY !!...I didn't shoot ANYONE !! " The true evidence of him PASSING the paraffin test and discovery of the TAMPERING OF EVIDENCE by Warren Commission lawyer David Belin regarding the " women on the stairs" witnesses PROVES Oswald was telling the TRUTH !!!

Madeline Duncan Brown's (LBJ's mistress) interview and what she says about the gathering at Clint Murchinson Jr house on the eve of the assassination is one of the most important insights on what parties were involved. She recognized most of the attendees and it becomes immediately clear that these people would never be seen in public with each other. We should keep in mind when studying the JKF assassination that scores of people associated with this event, either being a witness or someone with crucial information, were killed in very odd circumstances. This continued for many years after 1963.

I have so many more questions. I’m putting on the “tin foil” hat, but why would Michael ( a Unitarian) and Ruth (a Quaker) from wealthy liberal NY families move to Bible Belt Texas in the 1960’s? Why did Ruth want to learn Russian when we were in a Cold War era with Russia? Ughh…so much to unpack!

“Lee resented that people didn’t see in him his potential, how great he was.”
    Gerald Posner
Just a reminder that Posner never met Oswald, nobody who knew Oswald told Posner this and Oswald never said it nor wrote it down.
Therefore Posner made it up. Making stuff up is dishonest and it is certainly not evidence.

I live north of Dallas and have toured the Ruth Paine house in Irving, Tx. It has been kept true to the 1960’s in decor and other furniture and appliances. The same beds and crib are still there as it was in November of 1963. Found it very interesting. A background story to all this that I read said Ruth Paine possibly allegedly was a little more “interested in Marina Oswald in a different way” Something that Marina was not comfortable with-she moved out shortly after the assassination and though Ruth tried to contact her many times after that, Marina wouldn’t respond.

@@Jaymi-b3t there is a further angle to that. Ruth and her husband didn't live together at the time of the assassination. They had separated in 1962 but only divorced in 1970. But they always maintained in close and apparently very cordial contact. And as a couple they owned several modest houses in the immediate area whilst being quite wealthy.
If Ruth was a lesbian and they spent very little time during their marriage living together (1957-70) it raises the possibility that theirs was something of a lavender or empty marriage. Although they did have 2 children. Neither of them ever married again.
Then, given that Marina spoke very little English; Ruth was literally in complete control of her life.
Her husband, Michael Paine is another anomaly. A person with very high security clearance openly flirting with extreme left wing views. Whilst having right wing connections. They both smell like intelligence operatives. As indeed does LHO himself.

An interesting theoretical take on the JFK assassination is the 1973 movie "Executive Action" starring Robert Ryan/Burt Lancaster and Will Geer. It is a conspiracyy thriller using real footage of the assassination and immediate aftermath. but involving actors as industrial, military and intelligence conspirators.. The most interesting part of the movie for me shows how seemlessly Oswald moves from the U.S. military to Russia and then back to the U.S. to do street protests.as if somebody is opening doors for him not open for others. The screenplay was by Dalton Trumbo, blacklisted in the 1950s for his Communist affiliation. @@9Ballr it certainly does. What is most important about Oswald is that he was desperate to make a big impact on the world. He thought he would achieve it in 1959, when he defected to Russia. It didn't work. He thought that by k*ll*ng Edwin Walker ( with the same rifle used eight months later to k*ll JFK ) he would achieve it, but his shot barely missed. It's obvious that when he spent five days at the Cuban Embassy in Mexico City, in September, 1963, he was hoping they would allow him to defect to Havana. They wouldn't. But with the President of the United States passing in front of his place of employment? He couldn't let that go. If Marina had told him the evening before that she would go back to him, he wouldn't have k*ll*d JFK. ( She told The Warren Commission that she was playing hard to get, and the next time he asked, she was going to agree. )
Oswald, the supposed deluxe government op, was so ambivalent about k*ll*ng JFK that on Wednesday, November 20, he did his laundry. Hardly what you'd expect of a man about to try to pull off the most consequential ass*s*n*ti*n in American history.

The rifle she previously claimed not to know existed…

I have always found Ruth Paine as suspect. I found it hard to believe that someone takes a pregnant woman and her child into her home and actually paid her a stipend just to learn better Russian. She already knew Russian, and actually taught it. Also did you know her husband and his stepfather worked for Bell Helicopter and actually had a patent on one of the parts. So for each helicopter built and sent to Viet Nam they received a commission.

    • @lindavinall3972
      @lindavinall3972 6 дней назад

Also, the part where she supposedly tells the FBI there is no gun is totally fake. She moved Marina and her belongings back from New Orleans. She had to unload the car? I don’t think Lee brought the rifle on a bus. Also she made blocks and painted them for children. She had to step over the rifle in the blanket to get to her materials.

The amazing thing to me is that Mrs. Payne (even in her dotage) is such a self-publicist. You would think if you had the misfortune to be randomly connected to the greatest mystery of the Twentieth Century, you would have got fed up with all the attention by now. It would be even worse if most people suspected that you were an accomplice in some way. Why put yourself through it? Decidedly odd. I read somewhere that he home at the time of the assassination has been turned into a museum. Apparently, the new owners have fitted it out as it would have looked in 1963. I don't know if that is true or not? Are there many places connected to the assassination around the Dallas area that have been adapted for tourists in this way? I would be fascinated to know. All the very best to you.

You are correct about the Paine house. Paine bought two more similar ranch style houses in the neighborhood. In Oliver Stone’s JFK, Ruth is the only real life character whose name was changed. (Janet Williams) I wish they had kept the name as Paine, allow her to sue & then get her under oath. The Paines were both involved in framing Oswald. Consider, Oswald had spoken positively of JFK and had no motive to assassinate Kennedy.

Good discussion on Ruth Paine but the absolute key linking her is to Allen Dulles. Her husband Michael’s mother was also called Ruth Paine. Her best friend was Mary Bancroft, former secretary and mistress to… Allen Dulles in Switzerland during WW2. So Dulles, fired by JFK and a key Warren Commissioner, was one step removed from Oswald.

It’s great to hear you talk openly on it, it’s so intriguing isn’t it.
The House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) concluded that the security for JFK was “uniquely insecure” on the day of his murder. Motorcycle policemen were removed along the side of the limo to the rear on the morning and agents were removed off the back of the limo at Love Field, to the disgust of one agent. Many secret service agents were out drinking until the early hours of the morning of the assassination, some until 5 am. And the parade route was changed at the last minutes to take the two turns from Main Street onto Houston Street then Houston on to Elm. Slowing the car down to 11 mph where JFK was shot. Who arranged the parade route and presidential security? The Secret Service with the Dallas police. Who was involved with the Dallas police? The mayor was Earle Cabell, brother of General Charles Cabell, the number 2 man under Dulles’s in the CIA. Kennedy fired them both after the Bay of Pigs. Cabell called JFK begging him to provide air cover for the exiles invading force but Kennedy refused and fired them both.
So where Dulles was one step removed from Oswald through Ruth Paine, His former deputy General Charles Cabell was one step removed from presidential security for the president in Dallas through his brother, the mayor. The CIA admitted Earle was a CIA asset up to 1962.
And as you say, George H W Bush was linked with de Morenschilt and many others.

If the Paines were “handlers” for both Oswalds, wouldn’t they have had Lee Oswald stay with them as well? Whether Oswald was a real or fake defector, when he returned to the US, Marina was an unknown quantity. I think Ruth was far more interested in Marina certainly to verify whether or not she was a Soviet intelligence asset and possibly there might have been a romantic interest as well. Marina seemed to be interested in separating Marina from Lee.
I don’t think the relationship between Dulles and the Kennedys is as described in “The Devil’s Chessboard”. While JFK was a senator, Dulles was giving him advanced copies of James Bond novels. Shortly after the assassination, RFK invites Dulles to participate in the JFK Library Oral History. There is a recording of a phone call between Dulles, RFK and LBJ where Dulles is asked if he could go to Mississippi to check on the progress in the search for missing civil rights workers. There is no hint of a strained relationship between RFK and Dulles. RFK asks Dulles to review a speech for him in 1965. Ethel Kennedy invites Dulles to RFK’s funeral in 1968. Dulles was definitely put on the Warren Commission to keep the Castro assassination plots from being revealed to protect the CIA and very likely to protect JFK’s reputation. And it appears the Kennedys returned the favor.
Oswald could not have fired the “Single Bullet Theory” shot and he might not have fired any shots at all. And Ruth knows more than she is telling.

    Jess:
Really looking forward to this one, so much so that I, too, purchased the documentary and am only beginning it as I write this comment. You mention you find suspicious Ruth Paine’s answers to interviewers’ questions over the years because they’re stated EXACTLY the same. I immediately recalled a movie, The Song of Bernadette, which is about the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lourdes, France in the 1850s. I’ve never researched the apparitions or read the actual testimony of Bernadette Soubirous (the visionary), but in the movie, Bernadette is questioned repeatedly by all sorts of officials about what happened the day of the first apparition. She states verbatim the same answers over and over and the viewer sees this is as a natural result of the constant, repeated questioning she endured during the ordeal of the investigations. We’re told Bernadette was average in intelligence, sickly, not a great student. Ruth Paine is definitely intelligent. Seems likely to me that Ruth Paine’s answers certainly could be delivered verbatim also due to sheer repetition. Just a thought.

    • @fiachramaccana280
      @fiachramaccana280 5 дней назад

      I think the difference is
      (1) Intelligence level. Ruth is highly intelligent. Bernadette was virtually illiterate. Intelligent well read people would be expected to develop their answers over the years. And not stick to the same word for word script.
      (2) Context. Bernadette's repeated questioning by various persons was involuntary. And likely rather unpleasant for her as the questioners in good faith were trying to find holes in her story. Her repetitive answers were most likely defensive.
In contrast Ruth Paine loved talking to anybody on the topic. People like that will open up and add/subtract small details over the years. She hasn't. If she hated talking to the media she would have shut up after 1963.
