Seo Seung Jae (in pink with no headgear) has got to be the new Park Joo Bong. He's such an intelligent player with amazing vision for the opposite side of the court. Pay attention to where he sends the shuttle even when under heavy attack (example: 7:55) or even when he's in front of the shuttle, he is still able to send the shuttle to no-mans-land and therefore confuse the opponent's format. AND he's able to do super well and win in both men's doubles and mixed-doubles at the highest levels.
The problem with the Japanese pair is that they very strictly stick to traditional Japanese playstyle, i.e. to not make a mistake and stick to basics even at times when it might not be the best. Not their fault and mostly to do with the coaching style in the national camp. You can see that by the 3rd set, the Koreans have got the hang of the Japaneses tendencies to play the fast neutral shots that maintain their attacking turn. Hence the Koreans start anticipating certain drives and pushes and end up with profit on their anticipations and punish them with faster replies that the Japanese cannot reply to. Sometimes giving up the right to attack in a scramble/ambiguous situation and forcing the opponent to play an attacking shot under pressure/ shitty positioning, is equal to or better than a weak attack on your end. Because at pro levels, anything short of a full-powered short attack is defended and weak attacks are instantly countered and converted into attacks. That means going for such a play lets you keep your attack turn in the end. The Japanese don't do that here and constantly go for the 'obvious' best probability shots which ironically end up not being so because the Koreans also understand which ones those are and anticipate and counter them. One reason why the Endo/Watanabe pairing will be always be regarded as one of the legendary ones is because they were very succesful despite the short partnership and Endo being at the tail end of his career(31-34 iirc). The reasons are exactly why the Japs kind of lost here. Yuta Watanabe would sprinkle in very high risk/high reward shots in his rallies to pressure opponents and open up his and Endo's game. That combined with the trademarked legendary Japanese defence that their players have was a very lethal combo that I wish we could have seen more of.
