@@potionseller8943 its actually not why red light is used. Blue light is harder to pick up with the human eye at a distance if you arent observing the source.
It has a number of advantages. The biggest being your pupils absorbing light, red doesn’t dilate your pupils as much as white light. Therefore making it easier to adjust to the darkness after turning it off. And trust me, it’s a huge difference.
@@sjtv6565 if you’ve never used it. You wouldn’t know. But I’m telling you from experience as well as fact, that your eyes do not dilate the same way to red light as they would white light. Pro tip for anyone into camping or " tactical" things .. GET A LATERN! You can set it anywhere and work hands free. Sometimes having a head lamp can be too much light and focuses all in one area. Lanterns are also good for if your power goes out at home ❤️
If you dont have a lantern but have a jug of water, you can attach the headlamp to the jug, be sure its filled with water and the led light is facing inwards so its shining into the water jug. When filled with water, the water jug basically turns into a lamp, and is extremely bright (well... brightness is depedent on your headlamps strength!), but typically its incredibly uniform, and also "soft". You can also do this with the red light option.
All I see when I look at that is my old battle buddy shining one at me while in undies, perfect face paint, and Pit Vipers waking me up for Fire Guard.
With enough red and purple lenses about 6 of the red and 2 of the purple. The military flashlight can be viewed using night vision goggles but not seen more than 3 feet away at night. Poor mans IR light. We used it for signalling. Flashlight : A metal or plastic tube designed to hold dead batteries.
Star light scopes picked up any form of light. It was extremely hilarious when we would watch the patrols using IR and low lighted red or blue lenses. Walking or standing around us or in front of us. They never knew that we are in the center of their formations.
Red light allows you to keep your night vision and keeps your pupils dilated and used to the dark. We use them in every vehicle and every single helmet light
In the Air Force they have a budget to order stuff for your personal crew like knifes and sunglass(Oakley’s) etc. it depends on how important you are i guess
Medic here, we had a guy put his Peter I'm one during training. He lacerated his Peter, had to take him to the ER. Medics always keep an eye your people, especially when they are bored.
1: red light lets you retain night vision 2: its the longest visible wavelength making it harder to see by the enemy 3: they also give you a regular flashlight on deployments with IR capabilities and a red LED. So that's not an issue
Several reasons:1. Your pupils dilate less, so they stay more adapted to seeing in the dark, so less light-blinding. 2. Attacks less bugs. 3. Harder to spot from the distance.
For those who don't know, red light travels a far less distance than white light. I haven't served but I was taught some things in cadets. Red is for night and blue is used to penetrate through smoke because white reveals it instead. Something along those lines 🙃
My father (from the netherlands) also has one of those. Its pretty useful; it has a mechanical on/off switch and it has a button used for sendong morse code messages. It also has some colour filters :)
Red light is used for all sections of the military. Submarine's, plane's and helicopters. Not to be unseen, but to protect your night vision. We always use red or blue lights in astronomy

Red lights are used to minimize the disruption of Rhodopsin production, which stop being produced, and will "desolve" when exposed to basically any light. They're the reason you can see better after staying in the dark for a while.
Red light also allows your pupils to stay larger
You are very correct!
Blue light helps with recognizing contour lines on a topo map. They get washed out under red light but still helps with your vision at night.
@@morganh2800 however there are red-light readable maps where the red is more of a red-brown to help it pop out and stay visible
