- NOTHING Will Grow In Our Garden!
This year we started a new garden only to find that we have an area where nothing will grow. Did we do the compost garden wrong?
And yes, we do watch Pete at “Just A Few Acres Farm”

that’s a smart chicken, doesn’t want to end up in a freezer…. knows who to snuggle up to. 😂
Yes it is!!
Miss Saundra reminds me of myself. I take care of the regular chickens, Cornish X (will dispatch, if I need to), pigs, turkeys, dogs, cat, pet mice and rats, ball python, cleaning of the coops, brooders, pig pen, 18 large garden plots, canning and freezing, mowing, weed eating, tractor work, etc. My hubby works full time and doesn't have much time. I'm a stay at home wife, with a broken back, but I get things done methodically. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Happy homesteading, you two! 🙏🏻❤️
Never a failure, always an experiment if you're learning! God bless y'all.
No kidding about that. Thanks for watching.
Life is an experiment 😊🎉
That chicken is a skinny jeans chicken. It heard the word "chores" and made it's getaway.
Hilarious!
It has skinny legs, perfect for skinny jeans.
Hey Chuck, with the garden bed that won't grow- dig a fresh trench row and fill it with potting soil. Replant the seeds and the roots will grow near to the hot soil and only use what nutrients they need. Good luck
It's still the first week of June so there's plenty of time to get the second half of the garden up and running this season.
to fix the hot compost problem, mix in some additional soil to the hot compost areas and mix it in well to dilute it.Then replant. you have plenty of time. And watch out for hot chicken manure in the future.
You could open a row and add either potting mix or aged/cool mix to the hot. That should help.
Love the pet chicken!
If you built a wall with some of your offcuts from the mill you could maybe get more hay in the shed? It would give it more to lean on and you could go another round higher. Doesn't have to be pretty timber. Any of the small offcuts would work. Gotta love the chicken. She knows if she nice to Soundra she will get all the good stuff. lol 🥰
You two are rockstars. Sure love watching you two. I’m working our garden in our short season in Utah 7,000 feet above sea level. My garlic is going great and my 120 plants ( corn, peppers, tomatoes, okra) I transplanted as they were in grow shed for 2 months. We have progress. Best wishes
Thanks for sharing. I know a lot of people have had issues this year due to how wet the weather has been. Good luck!
We always compost our chicken scraps from processing. It makes great compost. God bless!
Keep watering.
Hey Chuck, have you considered putting a layer of topsoil down to plant in on top of that compost? it would give the compost some time to cool off and allow that seed to sprout in a medium that shouldn't burn it.
Its jus learning never failure
They ain’t nothing wrong with being a chicken lady Saundra! We have some lil bantams that we just love and they feel the same towards us! Smart chicken 😂
Corn needs sun and lots of water but not all the time .
Hi Chuck and Saundra! Nice bird!
good job , you didnt lose a crop you learned something :) i love to see sandra going hsnds deep no tools and planting
Exactly. Always learning. Thanks for watching.
Have you ever addressed how long does it take to see a difference in the pasture after the chickens are moved over it.
If your compost is still composting and hot I'd keep watering it so it will still keep composting and it will reach out some of the nitrogen so that it doesn't burn the seeds or the plant roots. The only other thing I've ever done is took and purchase some potting soil and I would make a hole I put that potting soil in it then I would do my seats or plant my plant. I believe you can never have too much hey as you said there is many ways to use it
Feed ur pigs punkin seeds for a natural warmer
I'm take a 📸 of my garden tomorrow and try and post it on here for everyone. I'm in Michigan. I grow lots of potatoes and peppers 🌶 😋
I love watching this show. Thank you.
I’m interested in building a compost set up that I can turn and work with the bucket of my tractor. Look forward to that project.
That’s exactly how I want to set this up. So I can get the tractor and bucket in the bay.
I love the way the chicken follows Sandra I absolutely adore it. Your hay looks so good may our God bless you and keep you close to Him love you both family
Where did Whistle Britches come from?
Great video thanks for sharing my friend almost time for some more cows
Keep the faith guys it’s called farming
I put my corn seed in wet paper towels for a few days before I plant it. My compost was pretty warm this year, but corn is up looks good so far.
Sorry about the beans and corn, but so much looks great. Good job, you two.
Thanks Dwight. We’ve learned some lessons here and that’s worth a lot. Appreciate y’all watching.
@@SheratonParkFarms It is my pleasure to watch your very enjoyable videos.
Will you ever buy a small grain bin?
On the garden you just had another learning experience. So now you know what to do next time. 😊😊😊
I'm with you- none of my jalapeños sprouted this year, for some reason.. 😖
Love the chicken❣️
Thanks.
I’m no expert but I believe the garden would have better if the compost had been incorporated into the existing soil by plowing/tilling.🤷♂️
I had a mess up with one of my garden patches as well. We moved the meat chicks uphill and it came a gully washer so dern bad, we weren't able to move them for days...and the rain never stopped. Washed all that hot chick poo right onto some of my mators and peppers. Yikes. What a mess it's been here in SE OK, but the critters sure are growing good. Mayhap I should look into that carnivore diet? AHAHAAAA... Nope. I'm a mator girl for life!
Thing's happen, that's the truth.
I appreciate all your videos. I do have a question. Your chickens, are they a Cornish Cross? Mine never fully feather like yours seem too. Thank you.
Thx
Nooice! 😎 STOC
Thanks
I heard charcoal is a good natural dewormer, just toss in some burnt wood and let them eat what they want when they want. Don't know how true it is but that's what I heard. But you be you, it's your farm and you can do whatever you want to do.
Lots of misses in the garden. I find the seed is poor quality lately. This last 3 or 4 yrs. we have had to replant a lot of misses. If you dig up the seed I bet they are just rotten. Thats what we have finding.
How much compost are we talking about? Is there market in your area for good compost?
Are your cows grass finished or grain finished?
You have to reintroduce it at night then in the morning they think everythings ok and they wont bully it
I think it’s becoming a pet. 😆
@@SheratonParkFarms I think you are right
what is the PH level of the soil ?
Have you tried using agriculture Lime Potassium and pigs urine
What is the soil like for worms, are there too many ?
flatten out the area and then raise the beds
Once you have spread the manure over the surface, it is time to begin aerating the soil. First, remove a small portion of soil in a wheelbarrow to have space to work the soil.
I'm the viewer who sent them to Sandra not u Chuck ! 🤪
🤣🤣 that’s right!!
what kind of baler does your hay guy use?
I don’t know what brand it is.
What type compost is it. Is it oak.
Pet chicken😂😂😂
Crazy isn’t it?🙄
😂😂😂
why "we failed"? why not "we learned something"? is negativity better for views? nice video. thanks.
