My friend, an Iraq combat veteran, has been a coheed fan his entire life. His last leave, I had a surprise for him. We were going to see Coheed live. But when he got back, he broke some horrible news. He had lost his hearing in an IED explosion. He still wanted to see them, so we went. You know what he did? He sang every goddamn song. I would tell him which song they were playing, and he sang each one.Fuckin' amazing.
I feel like they came up with the perfect musical description of the relationship Batman and Joker has. Long live Coheed. Long live Claudio. Long live COTF.
@Seegh Hyle on top of flowing very well lyrically, it manages to capture the essence of how Joker views himself. A looming, smiling menace on the every day man.
@all not to mention how it epically displays the amazing way Batman and the Joker are juxtapositioned. Both are literally crazy men hell bent on forcefully changing the world in their image. Only a few morality differences separate the two. They are both examples of your fate following “one really bad day.”
Lyrics This city's lost it's hope, I repeat, I boast The strange will walk alone They scurry with their doubt, darkness shrouds, the sirens shout Against the concrete below Oh, this works all for you and me, it's all our being We'll burn this city down! Who will be your pretty, little enemy? When I'm gone your world will prove empty I promise you will always remember me The joke's on you, poison me While you clean the streets of misfortune I pick the innocent from my dirty teeth We're one and the same deranged We were our worst nightmares delight And I promised you As you always knew Our world's no paradise Who will be your pretty, little enemy? When I'm gone your world will prove empty I promise you will always remember me The joke's on you, poison me While you clean the streets of misfortune I pick the innocent from my dirty teeth We're one and the same deranged There is no me without you I will behave, I will be An afterthought, your make believe Your darkest day is your friend in need (ha ha ha ha)
i love this song. it's melancholy and dark, which fits Batman. and i like how it deconstructs the nature of batman's relationship with the joker, and gives it a kind of sick, romantic twist. it's almost like an ode from the joker to batman.
This is a beast song. It really gets the Joker and Batsy perfectly for this game and how the Joker feels about their relationship. They need eachother and without the other they can't really be the same...awesome song from an awesome band for a awesome game.
The word "Masterpiece" is thrown around a lot these days. A masterpiece captures a moment, event or tells a story and is able to draw emotion from the person watching or listening. This song regardless of how you feel about Coheed does exactly that. It tells the epic story of these two iconic characters from a perspective that can be understood by anyone that knows anything about "The Dark Knight" From the days of Keaton to the now Beal and comics themselves. This song captures it all
This song from my favorite band of all time captures the true essence of everything that makes us humans spiritual beings. The eternal conflict of Justice, righteousness, and truth versus, dissolution, deception, and lies. It's the same story told for thousands of years. We are all familiar with. They will never have a Victor because they weren't meant to be. We will always have 50 percent vs the other 50 percent. It is eternal.
I saw Coheed and Cambria play this live when they toured through my hometown. It was really awesome. Had more power live than the recording lets on. Such a banger.
@connstryker1907 yeah, this song was originally made for Batman: Arkham City which came out in 2011, Coheed released a mix this year that sounds a lot cleaner but this is still a better version in my opinion as it's more theatrical.
Love it. Coheed are certainly an acquired taste. Very few people like them on their first listen. All of their songs are varied and technical, never boring...
This game has such an amazing soundtrack. Coheed, Panic! at the Disco, The Years, The Heavy, they all made perfect songs that matched this game perfectly.
A To Z Gaming Couldn't agree with you more. I remember the first time I beat the game I was expecting to hear it during the credits and needless to say, I was very disappointed.
Coheed has not remained the same since their early days. Each album brings something completely different to the table. I love Second Stage, In Keeping Secrets, the Good Apollos, YOTBR.... All of them. They evolve with each album while maintaining their musical and artistic integrity. So original and unique.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this really captures the relationship between Batman and the Joker. It's like a yin and yang dynamic; while they may be opposites, both are elements of nature, dark and light. All things are dualistic and yet one. This song really makes you feel for both characters and that exact opposition, yet composition aspect of their morals and ethics.
Coheed and Cambria is one of the best bands around today. There music is progressive and technical. Claudio's vocal abilities are phenominal, as well as on guitar. Claudio is a genius when it comes to telling a story and being original.Check out his original comic books. Amory Wars and Kill Audio. This song fits well with the Batman story and the Arkham City. Nice work once again Claudio and the rest of Coheed and Cambria!!!!!!!!
Honestly, this is the first song by Coheed and Cambria that I've actually sit down and listened to, and I've got to say... it's great. It's dark lyrics and themes are addicting, not to mention how the song itself almost perfectly summarizes the unique, ongoing relationship between Batman and the Joker. I believe that the singer voice also helps to enhance the overall theme/direct of the song since it could be characterized as being very Joker-like.
I'm not a fan of Coheed and Cambria but this a great song. It really fits the mood of the game and the overall darkness of Batman and you can tell that Claudio really takes the source material to heart.
Whoa! I like this song! Even though it's for A.C. it totally fits in with The Afterman. Coheed is cool because they aren't "Big" but their fans are like crazy about them. Those Neverender shows in 2014 are all sold out!? Who else got tix to them before they were sold out??
would you say almost a "love" letter? that's how i always thought of it, with how many times he's said there is no way one could essentially live without the other. they're fated to be each others worst enemy but also the person who understands each other the most. i feel like that was terrible English but i'm too tired to care if it doesn't make perfect sense.
I've been a Batman and Joker fan since I was a little kid with mask of the phantasm on vhs and I cant believe I just found out about this album yesterday. I've played Arkham City too many times to count since 2011 and I missed this completely. I listened to the entire album and it's badass in all but man, this track, I've listened to this one the most. Is there anything like this for the other Arkham games ?
Hey if you are interested, The singer writes comics. One of them is heavily inspired by the relationship between Batman and Joker, called "Translucid" It's really good.
I almost feel like crying... The song captures the batman/joker relationship quite well, I must say. They could be shuch great friends, so unfortunate that they're just... deranged.
Joker will always be the best batman villain. He is the only one who understands how crazy batman must be to do what he does. Joker accepts his insanity while batman fights against it. The struggle that batman goes through will always be amusing to joker.
I think it's more appropriate for Death OF the Family since the Joker's main argument was that the Bat Family was dragging Batman down while he gave him a reason to exist. It was really REALLY, twisted.
"Deranged" - Coheed & Cambria. One of My Current Favorite Band's soundtrack contribution to the Batman: Arkham City video game which was released today by Rocksteady Studios! [Tuesday, October 18th, 2011]
Gage King If this is your favorite, you haven't listened to enough of their music. I'll give you that it's amazing, probably top-10 material for me (maybe even top-3), but number one it is not.
This is such an awesome song and it's got a perfect Batman vibe to it. It pisses me off though that they didn't put it in the game I could only imagine it being a song for the climax or the ending credits
It was written to fit Arkham CIty as well as the Amory wars. I believe its about the Joker because he is the one enemy that has effected batman the most. and honestly he'd be nothing without the Joker.
So perfect!!!!!! Loved Coheed since 2001 and they have been my favorite band hands down this just seals it and brings tears to my eyes how perfect it is!!!!
Honestly, I don't think anyone could have made a better song relating the intricate Yin and Yang relationship that Batman and the Joker possess than the one that's melting my face off right now. Well played, Claudio.
My friend, an Iraq combat veteran, has been a coheed fan his entire life. His last leave, I had a surprise for him. We were going to see Coheed live. Hopefully they was able to repair his hearing with hearing aides.
How did you tell him?

Yuuuup.
Feel like this one's got something a bit that the other one doesn't? Can't put finger on it though
Hell yeah
@JoshisJoshisJosh This one is a lot more theatrical and has a much more unique sound in my opinion. Will forever prefer this version.
This one is more idk, ‘punchy’? Like, there’s more energy in it or something
The ha ha's are different, like the timing or something
I feel like they came up with the perfect musical description of the relationship Batman and Joker has. Long live Coheed. Long live Claudio. Long live COTF.
found ya betch
hello fellow COTF :P we are many, and we see all
It's funny you say that, since Coheed is dead.
Makoto jokes on you they just released a new song and announced a new Amory Wars album ;)
That still doesn't change the fact that Coheed Kilgannon is dead.
I wish this played during the end credits of the game. It is really fitting.
Agreed
@@sethlittle92270:40 batman......what happened?......batmaaaaaan....( He grapples and escapes)
Still listening to this in 2020. Man this is such a amazing song
2022 and still slapping
The chorus is a banger
2023 and no intentions to stop.
Gutted they took it off Spotify 😢
2023 here brother! It's shabooty!
Claudio has such a unique voice. It's amazing. Every song Coheed and Cambria has made, I'm amazed by.
Title is the state of r/BatmanArkham.
'I pick the innocent from my dirty teeth'.
... Now those are some amazing lyrics.
Not just any comics, either. Comics that he himself wrote.

We were our worst nightmares delight
And I promised you

Who here wants to hear a whole concept album based on batman from Coheed!
I would love that
It would be like when Iced Earth did a whole album on Spawn, would be great
Yes please!
Imagine what they could do for a twoface or riddler track
Everyone does. Absolutely amazing song. But Claudio has better things to write about. His own thoughts.
Their relationship is so symbiotic, you can't really have one without the other. This song es perfecto!!!!!
Song hits a little different now
i love this song. it's melancholy and dark, which fits Batman. and i like how it deconstructs the nature of batman's relationship with the joker, and gives it a kind of sick, romantic twist. it's almost like an ode from the joker to batman.

STOP IT Claudio! I can only get goosebumps so many times!!!
Is there any other song that describes the dynamic between batman and joker, and also gives us the jokers downfall
These lyrics... to this day... weave so well into the Batman universe...
This would have kicked off the credits flawlessly.
why isn't this song on spotify? I need it!!!!

How do I find it?

One of the greatest attributes about this song is the fact that it really puts Claudio's amazing vocals on display as well as his passion.

Claudio successfully captured the characters of Batman and the Joker at the same time. This just seems to fit the struggle between them so well.

No, not from the soundtrack. Check out the band’s other work though. Literally every single one of their albums is a master of its craft.
Who's here jamming this excited about The Joke tomorrow?
Even better a remix of this got released along with it lmao
I almost feel like crying... The song captures the batman/joker relationship quite well, I must say. They could be shuch great friends, so unfortunate that they're just... deranged.

YES
Ah, Coheed. They never cease to amaze me.
badass song ever
I think this song goes well with Death of the Family as well as Arkham City
Death *in* the family
I think it's more appropriate for Death OF the Family since the Joker's main argument was that the Bat Family was dragging Batman down while he gave him a reason to exist. It was really REALLY, twisted.
I heard this song and immediately thought of Scott Snyder's take on the character as well.
two of my favourite things in the world batman and coheed and cambria together, it does not get any better
