No way picking Corey Joseph at 29 was the Spurs worst pick. No one knew Butler was going to be good. Primo was so much worse. He might not have even gone in the first had the Spurs not picked him #12 and everyone knew Sengun would be good based on his stats in a quality Turkish league. Spurs fans were so pissed watching Sengun fall to #12 and then seeing them pass on him for a nobody.
A perverted nobody
Exactly. It would be like faulting the Timberwolves for drafting Glenn Robinson III 40th overall instead of Nikola Jokic in 2014. No one knew how good the latter would become.
Yeah this video's got a lot of weird picks. Jahlil Okafor over Kristaps Porzingis not being the miss for the 76ers was also crazy.
Plus why take 2 SF in the 1st of the same draft.
or taking Livio Jean-Charles at 28 was worse
It's crazy that in the past 8 years, Miamis only draft mistake was taking Achiuwa over Maxey. They picked the best player available in every single one of their other picks (Adebayo, Herro, Jovic, Jaquez)
Bro said jovic 💀
Jovic over Hardy and Nembhard? i dont know about that.
Georgios Papagiannis, real ones know
Celtics originally had the #1 pick in 2017, they KNEW the Lakers were gonna take ball #2 and the 76ers were gonna pick fultz, I don’t consider them acquiring Tatum possible as the Celtics would’ve just taken him #1
but from that trade, celtics got another pick. i forgot what the pick is
That's just revisionist history they would have taken fultz
I knew before watching the video Desmond bane would get a mention
2014 Orlando selected Dario Saric (pick 12) ahead of Zach LaVine (pick 13) and then traded Saric on draft night to move up two spots for Elfrid Payton. Zach LaVine went on to make two NBA All-Star appearances and Payton has been a journeyman (he's played for 5 NBA teams but hasn't been seen in the NBA since 2021-22)
If I was a Hornets fan I’d lose my sleep thinking that Miles Bridges could be far from Charlotte while Shai and LaMelo become a generational backcourt
2014 NBA draft literally everyone missed Jokic, even the Nuggets picked him in the 2nd round.
He is the best player of his class no doubts.
Spurs picking Corey Joseph 1 pick before Jimmy Butler 29th is not there worst mistake. Cory was a decent back up point guard role player that is really all you can ask for that late in the draft. Picking Joshua Primo 12th Overall who was a huge bust was much worse in my opinion. Thankfully they landed Wemby or else they would have regretted that for years. Joshua Primo has a case for being the worst lottery pick in NBA history.
Johnny Davis is much worse as a player
The wizards literally called tyreese halliburton and said he is going there then didnt take him...
For us cavs, it was Bennett, not Waiters. Plus, Lillard and Kyrie wont fit. CMON SROS!!!
This is one of the best topics to look at - I love watching your vids about drafts (and up and coming prospects)…
For the wizards it isn't kispert, it's definitely advija over Halliburton, as much as I love deni, hali would've allowed us to rebuild much better
I think looking back in a few years Johnny Davis over Jalen Williams will probably be worse. At least Deni is a valuable role player. Johnny on the other hand is a top 10 pick that will be out of the league in a few years.
Honestly true, when typing it out I completely forgot about jdub
For Toronto it could be valanciunas 5th in 2011 he was solid player for they and was part of the gasol trade but the pass over better players. For the bulls maybe wendell o patrick williams
The Nets worst mistake was not taking Favors over Cousins, they had Brook Lopez as their main star at the time and Cousins was not a good fit with Brook, they felt Favors would fit at the 4 and they were right.
Cousins can play at the 4 at the time. It was because Favors was a consensus top 3 pick at the time, and Favors was more mature than Cousins according to scouts
The pistons also picked Stanley Johnson over Devin booker 😭
I think Bulls selecting Denzel Valentine 14th in the 2016 draft is a bad one for them, considering Siakam was still on the board and went 27th to the Raptors.. imagine
I was half expecting Detroit to be Cade tbh
Suns also could’ve picked haliburton instead of Jalen smith. Hali would’ve been perfect as a backup pg in their finals run. There’s worse decisions made by the franchise but I feel like I had to mention it as a suns fan lol
Delon Wright wasn’t even a bad pick at 20. Played really good as a backup PG to Lowry between Cory Joseph and Fred VanVleet and when Lowry was out he stepped his game up especially on the defensive end as a 6’5” PG.
Suns also picked Jalen Smith ahead of Hali
I really have a problem looking back on alot of drafts. Hindsight is 20/20. You never know whats going to happen to players. There has been draft busts, sure, but nitpicking over the guy someone to 29th for the guy taking 30th is silly. And wiseman at 2 could have been a great fit. Lamelo could have gotten lost in the rotation. He needed the keys to a team. Another factor is development. Not all teams are good at that.
Sorry Matt, but Josh Primo and Luka Samnic are our worst picks since 2010. 2 young prospects taken in the top 20 and neither played over 100 games for us
Bane is a part of a lot of them
I actually think Mitchell and Murray wouldnt have worked out well together because then maybe no Bruce Brown and no KCP both of whom contributed a lot to that championship team
mistake idk if that's the right word. the draft is always such a mess and impossible to know who's good and who's bad
Marvin Bagley 3 can't get a break anywhere if his family lineage depended on it he should've just stayed sitting down in that draft.
The Bulls drafting Carter Jr in 2018 when they coulda had Mikal Bridges or SGA shoulda been the choice for them. The only other choice in the McDermott trade was Zach Lavine (maybe he turns out different playing next to Jimmy, Rose, and Noah) or TJ Warren.
I don’t agree with the Suns choice. Taking Markieff Morris over Kawhi Leonard was definitely worse. A team up of Steve Nash and Kawhi Leonard with Robin Lopez down low could have been something great. Then of course Book gets taken four year later and if Kawhi is still in Phoenix at that point, you’d have him and Book running the League.
This is before 2010 but I still have nightmares about Michael Beasley lol
That’s funny I’m watching this right after watching Luka drop 73pts on the Hawks!!! 😂😂😂
For OKC, I am glad you did not pick Steven Adams over Giannis. That is low hanging fruit. TFerg was hot garbage
I know it’s early, but the Wizards drafting Johnny Davis over Jalen Williams and Jalen Duren is way worse. At least Kispert gets regular minutes.
Zeke Nnaji good kid,
That hasnt translated into a reliable back up.
TJ Leaf over OG Anunoby was the worst for the Pacers especially since OG went to Indiana University
The rockets wouldn’t have picked Sengun if they drafted mobley, they drafted sengun coz he was the best big man available at that pick
"...but ended up making a draft night trade for a worser player."
WORSER??!
Some of these were just wrong. How are sixers not Noel or Okafor. Then you talk about Celtics not drafting but trading. This is a drafting video, not a what if. I love your videos but this frustrated me
CAVS should have Drafted giannis in 2012 Number 1 pick
I think for the Wizards it should be Avdija over Haliburton, but give it a few years and I think the answer will be Johnny Davis over Jalen Williams. At least Deni and Kispert are able to actually play at an nba level.
Tf u mean Delon wright was a bad pick? He was a solid backup pg for years, and without him we wouldn’t of gotten Marc Gasol, so please double down on that take
5 second video
Every team passing on jokic
Mitchell and Lillard would not work. Both undersized guards who can’t play defense and both need the ball in their hands.
Great video. Graphics with draft picks/trades would be helpful.
for me the biggest mistake of hornets is when they pick MKG instead of picking bradley beal
Really good video topic idea. Congrats on going YT full time!
The judgement on the Zo pick isn’t fair in hindsight yea but we already had Ingram and Randle at that point
Golden State Warriors: James Wiseman
never thought id see the day that anthony bennett doesnt make this typa vid
The waiters thing on the plane was on the heat not on the cavs. Unless you meant that was a problem off court for his career period
yeha this video it true but it’s just hard to say that like if sabonis went to the bucks he could’ve got no game time and been a bust
I will do it in order of gravity
1. Every team that passed on Jokic twice
2. Every team that passed on Jokic once
3. Denver that passed on Jokic in the first round
Philly is good. We got the right pick
no mention on people passing on bam as well
I can tell you stepped up the editing effort and it payed off 🔥 video looks great matt
i just wish my 76ers didnt trade away Mikal
You could make a whole video on Knicks draft mistakes. They passed up on Booker in 2015, Donovan Mitchell and Bam Adebayo in 17, Shai in 18, and Haliburton in 2020. They also passed up on Jokic in 2014 but tbf no one expected him to be as good as he is
Still mad at Vlade for that terrible mistake
its alpheren sengun not alpen sengun
I never wanna see the Marvin Bagley trade ever again.
Booker refused to work out for Jazz and his agent probably warned Jazz not to take him.
Jazz' biggest mistake was undoubtedly taking Doke Azabuke out of Kansas a few pics ahead of Bane.
young kyrie and dame wouldnt of worked ppl aint play double pgs like that
plus dion waiters wasnt bad it just didnt work out
Blazers definitely had it worst out of everyone , Blazers could have had M.J , Kobe and K.D
over 10 chips right there ,
The Blazers already drafted Clyde Drexler the season prior to MJ and they were in need of a big man. They should've gone with Charles Barkley in 1984 and Al Horford in 2007.
@@fullmetalgamer6062 hell no
Matt you said "take best player available" for Jaden Ivey and Scoot, but both have had majorly rough play and stats this season(not a diss, its just kinda funny)😂
The Celtics were not gonna trade the number 1 pick if the Lakers or Celtics were gonna draft Tatum. Danny ainge said he would've took him 1st overall if he didn't have the reassurance from the other teams
Suns Jalen smith over Halliburton was really the dagger. At least Jackson had some potential upside, smith was a late first rounder at best
I disagree the Sixers blew it not drafting Tatum.
No they didn't. If fultz is healthy he would be the beat player from that class
Nuggets did not make a mistake. Mitchell is ball dominant. Jokic wouldn't have been utilized as he is now with mitchell on the team.
A video idea could be going back to these draft whiffs and playing a few seasons seeing how it would have turned out.
w vid
I will never agree with the narrative that the Hawks made a mistake by passing on Doncic. He has won just as many championships as Trae Young has while being on a better team… his stats are wildly inflated and he’s not a great leader or defender. He’s just as good as Trae Young plus who knows if he would have even developed in Atlanta
As a Sixers fan you got this SPOT ON. Excellent call.
Also not drafting Cousins was big a huge miss. We probably don't go to the process if that happens
I gotta say in hindsight im not so sure damian lillard in clevland wouldve been good with kyrie on the roster
Correct
It’s fun to imagine the talent but the fit would be wierd
U made it sound like Knicks drafted better over the last 15 years than the thunder even tho the Knicks always end up buying players and the thunder are always drafted players lmao
Fr but the Thunder have had a lot Draft bust over the last decade SGA was not drafted by OKC either.
Thunder didnt draft that well in the '10s, KD and Russ were in the 00's and all the drafted players they have now are 20's
loved this concept, matt!
Yo
Anyone noticed Golden States downfall is similar to Detroit?
Top 3 pick draft whiff on a big man
Still wins title
But that everything after that is the beginning of the end
And questions on what would've happened if they didn't whiff
Not really as they have won 4 titles with this core while Detroit only has one
@@kohsmoger1567 Specifically talking about the events that occur AFTER both teams' top 3 draft pick. Not their history
@@KingChris0306 I think the warriors can win another chip before steph retires with a overhaul of the roster
@@kohsmoger1567 That would have to be a very large overhaul... Regardless as it is right now their paths are identical
For the Bucks it should be Joel Embiid
Fr i think about that all the time imagine a Front court of Embild and Giannis.
The claw Wundt B dat dude without the players around him Duncan Parker Ginobli don’t forget bout Big POP at coach …. A beautiful situation 2 fall into.
SROS never misses
Feel like the Atlanta mistake was more about reddish that Trae young
For Dallas, it wasn’t Maxey we were all mad about not taking over josh Green. It was Desmond Bane we all wanted and still want. Another honorable mention: not taking Giannis is 2013 2 picks before he went
actually yall could have drafted Giannis if not for Dwight Howard lol
