The worst part about this whole event was the translation.
Dennis is not planning to stop training and keep going.
He also said that he was very nervous and even a little scared coming into this match because he knew that Devon made some big strides in his abilities and beat many of the top guys while Dennis only had one match sense his return.
He said that he will continue training and moving forward.

I also think there were many Devon fans there. I does or very likely could have an effect on your mental state. Many people wanted him to lose. Maybe a more neutral and distance to fans would be beneficial, then you could exclude that factor more. It must be a clean fair matchup. You need to control all variables. Also maybe Devon had some "aura" to him due to his following and social media reach. It can cloud your mind and ability. So he was not so much intimitaded or nervous by Devon alone, imagine they go 1v1 in the free time, but the CROWD/MOB behind him. You can overreact with your motion. To counter this you need an equal crowd or a very high focus.

He won many important matches (Brzenk, Devon) and he don't have to prove any thing to anyone. He achieved his goals, now he can choose - either reach other new or just enjoy life and his passion like Brzenk does.

I think the surge technique we saw from Devon was one of the most unusual applications of armwrestling skill. We've not seen anything like that from anyone else as a strategy. It takes a huge amount of energy to pull something like that off, and get through a sticky point in an opponent where the strength is close or even higher. It's truly master level to come up with that as a winning strategy. I don't believe I've seen that done by anyone other than Devon in such a focused way.

Surging is a normal part of tournament armwrestling. You don't sew it much because the person doing the surging generally has a decent bit more strength than the opponent. To be able to surge against someone and willingly lose position to do it repeatedly is a significant strength difference

    @ALandarion 6 месяцев назад +43

The first round was pretty close in my opinion, Devon definitely had some troubles moving Denis from the center, and it was also noticable that Devon didn't want to give Denis even a slight advantage. After that Devon got stopped, but he used a clever strategy of going for dynamic moves instead of the static pressure, in order to load Denis's wrist and cupping heavily. Then he went for the press but got stopped again, and after that he went to roll out the hand and fingers of Denis for the finish, and Denis couldn't use his pronation and backpressure because his hand was too loaded by that time. This was all a carefully designed strategy by Devon for this exact match, and it was far from easy to execute.
If Denis was a bit stronger he could have holded the center and it would have been a different match. Also if Denis had more competitive experience he could have adjusted his technique somehow not to let Devon load his cupping so much. But to me it looks like he was relying on the raw power a bit too much, but didn't have enough of it.

@@yi-vanstudenov464 I would say that in all of Denis’s practice videos and many of his matches, you’ve seen him use pretty much one technique, which is engaging his back pressure and overpowering his opponents. Denis does not posses the nearly as much technical ability as Devon, so when you have a match where both guys are around even in strength level, the more technically gifted arm wrestler is gonna win. Go back to the 2018 match. That was a match where Denis was light years stronger than Devon. Technical ability played no role in that match. Denis needs a total strategy rethink. Put it this way. If you could swap their minds and bodies Devon could have beaten himself in Denis's body if Denis had pulled the way he did in Devon's body. Maybe more easily. Technique and strategy, set up and execution.. Denis seemed unwilling to assert himself when you could see Devon lining up his shoulder behind the arm whereas Denis was on the outside knowing Devon would push his hand away from him then press down for the pin. He must have been a bit caught in the lights. I hope he makes a full comeback. Love Denis and great effort in training but we need a proper rethink here. I think he was emotionally supportive and a good friend but maybe we don't need Babkin in the camp. He doesn't know armwrestling. He believed in his own ability to hold Devon that he wanted it to go in that direction to bait Devon into tiring himself out, but because that was Denis' *only* lane and he had no other options it didn't work out. Denis basically knew by round 1 that it was lost, he would have looked even worse trying to hook Devon or trying something else. The route he chose didn't give him the win but also made sure he didn't look totally washed up. He had nothing after round 1 and Devon's relentless assault on his arm. However there's no shame in losing to the best version of Devon Larrat, just like there was no shame for Devon losing to the old version of Denis. Devon had too much side pressure too. It reminded me of the michael Todd match at KoTT. Michael jammed that press into Devon and he just had too much center table strength and Micheal bounced right off of him. Same thing happened here to Denis.
Devon felt Denis out in round one, and knew Denis had massive static strength, but knew Denis’s wrist was suceptible , so he kept pumping Denis back and forth to blow up Denis’s arm in the first round. the reason that Devon started destroying them lately is that he started using as well... not the excessive amount like they do though.
Devon was mostly natural his entire career so even the slightest use of enhancements will make a difference while Denis was entirely depended on them.

Can't say much about this match as both are in a very different shape right now. Devon looks almost invincible, better than ever, and Denis is just coming back from 4 year break due to health issue...
The question of who's the best is impossible to answer unless Denis manages miraculously to go back to his pick shape, which probably will never happen. If we wanna have a long, happy life.

*As a massive Denis fan, I just could not force myself to realise that Devon could be in SUCH an amazing shape. It was so sad watching Denis lose that badly, and how easy it was for Devon to just power through Denis’s attempts to defend the pronation, especially the flash pin in round 2.*
*What can I say, I was wrong. I was praying and hoping for a miracle, but as of right now, Denis is as far from Devon as Devon was from Levan when they fought.*
*My only wish now is that Denis will not lose hope after the loss, but will try and focus more on getting his power over endurance back, and maybe pull some easier opponents for start, before going for something as big as a world title once again.*
*Great match, kudos to Devon, he’s the goat.*

His weight in that video was 128kg. Loosing 2 kg before the match for Denis is crucial that may have affected his strength.

Yeap, you pointed out one thing important, Denis, Babken and his team underestimated Devon. Denis focused more on endurance and not strenght thinking that he don't need to gain more strength to defeat Devon and it will enough to do the job (he said it in promotional video), fatal error, and this was the result. Even Levan saw weakness in Denis training. Its heartbreaking but Babken and Denis said he will come back more strong.

We saw kind of the same thing with Alexey Voyevoda vs John Brezenk. Even if you're younger and maybe even stronger, if you return to the sport after a long hiatus you're not gonna beat the ones who were at your level before you left.

Devon definitely had the edge in the set-up. Denis' arm looked huge, 20% larger than his left. I don't think I've ever seen a more impressive bicep and forearm before. But his frame was 30% smaller than his former pre injury self. I'm thrilled there was no kings moves. That loss was about as devastating to Denis as it was to John. John had nothing yesterday.

Denis lost cuz he is not the denis of the past. This devon definitely would not best peak(2018)denis for sure. One can legit argue 2013 or 2015 denis would have beaten this devon in a grinder match. Back then, even with a compromised wrist, denis always had that tremendous side pressure surges and shoulder role movement. Look still did way better than ermes.
I said it before the match that denis side pressure is almost non existent. Denis lost side pressure the most from his health issues. It's just not there. 2015 denis would have beaten this devon almost the same way as he did Dave Chafee in his 2015 match but denis would not have gone that far to devon side. Great moment for devon altho there were alot of pretendence from devon/Jodi and his supporters.

Match ended as practice pulls. The thaught or guess that Denis practices after being totally fatigued was a mith.
His side pressure is very weak. He don't have any technique. Even he didn't applied Kings Move. His only weapon is to hold.

Like 69 surges after having everything in the set up and taking Denis Hand demonstrates denis is still an overall stronger arm, but still needs a year to strengthen his hand and cup. After 5 years of sickness and inactivity, i would say this was a pretty great performence and much better than i expected.
    Remember Denis is still young.

Denis due to insane PED abuse have always looked older than Devon and he still does to this day. Physical aging is a bad sign, and that's not only grey hair which can be genetic.
